January 8, 200719 yr so, this last weekend was he second annual MNsubaru ice race event. we go way up north, set up a course, and drive on it all weekend. last year, someone was kind enough to time our laps for comparison, but due to some drama, that didn't happen this year. anyway....some sweet pics of my wagon sideways. and a couple cool pics with a buddy's impreza behind me: had an awesome time....but found out that the RX tranny is overrated for an EJ-swapped car. locked center diff yielded no advantage over the EJ viscous center. and with the torque of he EJ22, lo-range was pointless.... but we had an awesome time anyway! EDIT: just noticed the new motorsports section....this may be better in the Rally/Racing section...
January 8, 200719 yr Author looks like the wagon got poked in the eye there ;- ) yea, I think it's a bad ground, because it doesn't matter what bulb is in there, and it's both high and lo beam.....
January 8, 200719 yr Looks like alot of fun! That is no doubt a loyale in 4wd ridin low..The last time I did that was only to take the car to the shoreline and use my snowmobile, to smack into the only ice shack on the whole lake. The past few years are bad here, its bizarre. I just went to northern maine, about as far as I could go, and there isn't a frozen enough lake that I know of. . At least someone has ice enough in northern U.S., the northeast is horrible this year. That's it.I am drivin to minnesota to do a donut on the lake and come all the way home.
January 10, 200719 yr Thats awesome! How far is lake frozen over for? Looks to continue as far as the eye can see, sooo cooool. I can only imagine how much fun that'd be!
January 11, 200719 yr i wish we had lakes like that down here where i live edit:this new smilie rules!!!!!!
January 12, 200719 yr Author Thats awesome! How far is lake frozen over for? Looks to continue as far as the eye can see, sooo cooool. I can only imagine how much fun that'd be! the whole lake's frozen. 14" in the middle of the bay where we were doing the races, almost 20 near the shore, and we measured in a few places out in the middle of the lake (about 8 miles from one end to the other...), and always got at least 10".
January 14, 200719 yr ^^^With a long drill! Nice pics! I've been meaning to make it up to Saginaw Bay, MI. for some ice racing. Just haven't been able to yet. Jay
January 14, 200719 yr Author actually...we used an ice fishing auger. it drills about a 4" wide hole....and then get out the tape measure. or, you could also use a chain saw
January 20, 200719 yr What kind of tires are you running? (I suppose there are class-specific restrictions).
January 20, 200719 yr Author What kind of tires are you running? (I suppose there are class-specific restrictions). no class restrictions or anything, this is real informal. we go out, set up a course, and take turns timing each other's laps.... I'm running Cooper Weathermaster studless snow tires. 155/80r13. sweet tires!! Austin bought them for the XT before it's trek across the country to MN, and the new owner put pugs on it, so I got these for free...
January 26, 200719 yr sweet! I'm going ice racing at georgetown CO sunday. they run these crazy jeeps with fiberglass bodies, 10" wide studded tires and built big blocks. but Im just doing the bare tire street car class.www.ourgangiceracing.com
December 17, 200817 yr Numbchux, Any idea if this event(or any others like it) is taking place this season (08/09)? It looks like a good time. Thanks, Sam
December 17, 200817 yr Author Numbchux, Any idea if this event(or any others like it) is taking place this season (08/09)? It looks like a good time. Thanks, Sam yep, we (MNSubaru.com) do 2 every season. lodging for the first event is full (january 15-18), and a date has not yet been set for the second. pretty far from you, it's only about 45 minutes from canada. I think MNAudi puts on similar/smaller/more formal (helmets, course workers, penalties, etc.) events near the Twin Cities later in the season.
