January 26, 200719 yr *91 Loyale 4WD Wagon - Power Windows. Ugh...My subaru is really a pain in the neck. For people who've helped me before....still haven't fixed flasher. Car runs, but must give it gas to keep it idling when its cold outside. I took my car to the shop....and now that they are done with it, they messed up something else. Before they messed with it, the only window that would work is the drivers window. Well, since I've got it back, none of them work...any ideas?
January 26, 200719 yr Pop your door panels off and make sure they're still connected for starts; And I meen ALL the panels.
January 26, 200719 yr The shop that did the work should at least fix the drivers window if it was working when you brought it in. The other windows may not be working due to a bad control unit, relay, or the door switches. Be sure the lockout switch is working also.
January 26, 200719 yr Author The shop that did the work should at least fix the drivers window if it was working when you brought it in. To Be honest, I don't want to take it back there. Didn't have a great experience, don't want them touching my car anymore

January 29, 200719 yr I assume these are power windows? If so, I'd pop the switch unit off the drivers door and start measuring with the voltmeter, see what's getting power. Did you check the fuse? It's sometime helpful to start hotwiring stuff if you aren't getting power out there, to see if it works when it actually gets power, or if it's completely dead. If it won't work even when the motor has power, it could be just all gummed up -- a good cleaning and re-lubricating of the window mechanism could be in order.
January 29, 200719 yr Hi! , Check this Out: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=55372 Good Luck!
January 29, 200719 yr before you blame the shop, what were they working on? If they were working on the exhaust or tires, for examples, you probably can't blame them for the windows... more info needed here.
January 29, 200719 yr most power window problems are caused by age and are a result of dirty switches and sometimes the connectors to the switches... take the master window switch assembly apart and clean all the contacts... if that doesn't do it then do the same thing to all the other doors... pake sure all the connectors int he door panels are clean enough as well... --Spiffy
January 29, 200719 yr Even if the shop were working on a related part they don't always own up to it. My dad had the tranny rebuilt (they also "upgraded" the wiring) on his 93 suburban and when we got it back the 4wd didn't work. Took it back and they said that it wasn't because of anything that they did. Not to mention that the shifter was in 4 hi when we got it back suggesting that they at least tried to drive it in 4 and probably forgot to put it back because it acted like it was in 2. It is a $60-80 part from any store but they found one for $180 and installed it free of charge.
January 29, 200719 yr I had window problems when i got my RX, the rear windows would barley move, and the passenger side one went sooooo slow, and my drivers one was decent, but still slow, took out all the switches, cleaned the contacs inside, and used white lithium spray grease and drenched EVERY part of the window mechinisms and the windows are fairly quick now, i think the motors are getting tired tho.
January 31, 200719 yr Power Windows use a Master Relay to Distribute Power to ´em, I posted Diagrams to Change it by a Better Relay, as the Bosh one Here. Dirty / Rusty connectors & "Tired" Relays can do that "Slow Motors / Windows" Problem. Good Luck!
February 1, 200719 yr The power windows in my 90 quit working a while back. The main 12V feed *wire* that goes from the frame harness to the door switch went open. I just ran a seperate wire in it's place.
February 1, 200719 yr Author Is it possible its the Power Windows circuit breaker? If the shop was messing with the dash and all wires under there, including ECU, etc.
February 12, 200719 yr did you check the relay under the passenger seat, and its grounds and stuff under there, they corrode easily being by the door/seat. ALso the switches go bad and cause windows not to work, did you open them up and clean them up? There are no circuit breakers or anything, just 1 fuse
February 12, 200719 yr Author We took out the relay under the passenger seat, cleaned it, put it back in, and no luck.
February 12, 200719 yr Change it, with a Bosch one, as I explained here: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=55372. Good Luck!
February 12, 200719 yr But Don`t Forget to Check the Wires Carefully, maybe Power didn`t get There...
February 13, 200719 yr Author Well, before this, only window that would go down would be the drivers one. I just realized that on the main power window switch, the lock button seems broken. Could that have aynthing to do with why the other 3 wouldn't work before? if so, why did the drivers one stop working too?
February 13, 200719 yr The lock switch does control the other three windows so fixing it may get those working. I would check for a broken wire in the door jamb for the driver's window.
