Well, I wasn't going to post this but finally decided that it's more hillarious than it is embarrasing...so I sold an old turbo wagon to Turbone and had a little mishap with momentum on delivery day:

Please note that there are 0 engines under the hood and 2 engines in the cargo bay....on the downhill side...past the dolly axel...

Oh yeah, the rear hatch is a bear to open when the latch is broken.

The only thing that's more fun than doing that with a car is doing that with a full-size truck. Had some jackass pull out in front of my when I was hauling my "new" 69 to the shop I was renting, I slammed on the brakes, and the truck came up and over, and then rear-ended my hauling rig. I was busy keeping it out of the ditch while the guy took off.

$1500 in damages between the two trucks.

been there done that, exept i did it with a civic.

 

had to get 4 guys to lift the nose of the car and move it back cause civics are so damn low.

Just be really, really glad that no one was standing between them.

I suppose I should also post some pics of the resolution....first attempt was one that anyone who has more subarus than brains would take....put the beater wagon in LO and...

...we broke the tow strap, but it did pull the truck et al a good 8" up the hill...so we finally got it fixed with several jacks and three old donuts (I knew I was saving thoes for something) and driving the dolly underneath the subie

Cars like that get tossed all the time. They don't rust away there as much as in other parts of the country/world

Yah, I think I've mentioned it before, but a rust-free (or nearly rust-free) EA-82 fetches pretty good coin up here. Minor hassle getting it across the border, but it's worth it for many people. Might try advertising on Vancouver (BC) Craigslist next time. Browse the ads there, and you'll see what I mean.

Just like how in some parts of the world, food is thown away or burnt, because they have too much. And then someone in another country dies because they can't get enough proper food. Makes a lot of sense.

If you have some good recipes for dining on subarus, I would be interested to hear it.

 

The fact is it is a pain in the rump roast to sell cars to canadians. I have done it enough times. Will probably not do it again. I don't even sell parts over the border anymore. Its a pain in the rump roast.

 

Transporting them to other parts of the US is cost prohibitive.

 

We're talking about labor, paperwork and $$ for a stripped down $50 car.

I have an excellent recipe for fuel line sautéed in coolant, but its not the cheapest meal in the world.. To make it RIGHT, you really have to use the high pressure FI line (it just lacks consistency with the low pressure stuff) and pure ethylene glycol. Rusty water DOESNT cut the mustard for this one.

Posts like this make me glad for my uncle's trailer. it may weigh a ton, and it may be a stiff, dual axle affair that pushes the little nissan pickup truck (often) towing it ALL OVER the road... but its fairly low, and easy to put a lowered car on (its his racecar trailer) AND it has a winch. It has its shortcomings, but it is alot nicer than a dolly for my two bits. I guess a long distance trip makes fuel economy become a factor... but I don't ever think about the vehicle ON the trailer when that thing is behind me. I just think of the trailer and the car on it as one massive load, because the car never budges.

Just be really, really glad that no one was standing between them.

Yeah, well I wasnt laughing:-\ I had to figure out how to get the stuff out, with a broken latch. I had to either break the window (messy) or get to the latch mechanism. Out came my BF tire iron. Should have taken a pic of the rear hatch after I got done with it. Opened it up like a can of tuna:-p

MY landlord and I cut into the metal of the hatch on his old station wagon (POS pontiac) with an angle grinder and a masonry wheel for the same reason.. exposed the latch mechanism and got it open.

Sorry Rob! I forgot to warn you about that. It worked when I put the first engine in...but not the second....
