If there is someone else that wants to bid, then you have a chance to talk/parley with them. Dont come here whining about someone sniping you in the last minutes of a auction:-p
May 2, 200718 yr There is also a service available to the seller, that will out bid anyone if you don't get the sale price you wanted. You pay a small fee to ebay and re-sell the same item till you get the price you wanted. Kind of unethical but it exists.

May 2, 200718 yr Is that really true? Wow, that would suck! It sounds like you're describing a reserve price. The item doesn't sell unless the bid goes above the seller's (hidden) minumum sale price. You see that a lot on vehicles offered by dealers.

No; I think Sweet was referring to a third party who would shill bid on behalf of the seller to falsely raise the bid price with a bid that they had no intention of honoring. The seller is not only fully aware of this third party's intent not to actually purchase; the seller in this case has requested this third parrty to make false bids to drive up the selling price, thus being able to still say L@@K!! NO RESERVE!!!!!! Gotta love marketing, its what we americans are best at anymore.
May 3, 200718 yr I have to admit, I snipe.... My method of bidding is in the last 30seconds place your maximum, if you get it, great, if you don't, ohwell you bid your highest. Then sometimes I just bid to get auctions moving along, haha..

May 3, 200718 yr I used to get sniped all the time - I was bidding under the average going price, or right at it. If I go a little higher, more often than not, the snipers only raise the final price a bit. The difference was something like 10% to go from not winning to winning. Look at the completed listings to see what the recent going price is. Related thought re: ebay I also like to know the cost of a new item at a regular store or Amazon type place. Some items your'e better off buying new - if you can get a new one for 20% more from a store, with a warranty, return if defective, etc., why mess around? If you can get it for 50% or less of the "regular" price, it's worth it to go ebay.

NO RESERVE!!!!!! That's what I'm talking about. Some refer to it as "managing" their sales. If the car was really worth more $ to someone else, then you can't complain? The bottom line is bid what your willing to pay. Don't be pushed into bidding more. However to keep things honest, monitor the seller and see if a similar item does not "re-appear" a week or two later...
