archemitis
thats awesome mcbrat! i realy like how the new sub frame is welded to the unibody, instead of just bolted, should make for easier opening and closing doors while offroading =] i like it alot
mcbrat
got some work done today on it. Chris cut the hole in the bed for the fuel cell and made the support frame for it. we test fit the jump seat frame, and it's only going to be moved forward a couple of inches... decided on what route to go with the roll bar.... I removed all the carb and intake spacers from the weber set-up,and now the hood closes. removed the remote oil sender set-up and put thestock sender back in. replaced the centerlamp assembly, and removed all the battery stuff.... and got the driveshafts today too. we set the alignment, and determined where oil pan needs "adjusted" got the t-stat cover for the power steering set-up on, and the PS pump on. I took a few pics that I'll get posted soon.
mcbrat
more pics... Test fitting bumpstops I rebuilt a good centerlamp function, and it just need to be bolted to the new support bar.... Chris checking tire clearance New lengthened driveshafts, and sammy to soob shaft Fuel cell sunk into the bed inner wheel well cutting for tire clearance oil pan clearance.. or lack of. pan will need a beating or a cut/reweld Steering drag link tacked in spacers for weber all removed and power steering set-up installed hood closed! bratman18
Looks really good. The oil pan doesn't look like it will need a whole lot of clearancing. Those tires still look absolutely huge!!! Nice rig though, can't wait to see that thing in action. You're going to have to get some good video of it in action!
bheinen74
mick, When you get to the finishing up point, are you planning on doing some "easy" trails first to test/break things in? If you are, and the trail is easy enough for a beginner like me, I would be interested in testing out my BRAT too, and could get some video shots of yours. mcbrat
yeah, there'll be some testing as much as I can do... after it's set to go, I need to take it to get new custom exhaust too I'm gonna try and make the Castana outing over the 4th of July if it's not cancelled again..... it'll be plenty dry then, so the AT's will be fine for that.... unfortunately there's no public trails in Iowa, only private land through the 4wd clubs, and our club doesn't really have aplace yet.... Uberoo
so are you going to put a passenger seat in the thing?
bheinen74
so are you going to put a passenger seat in the thing? I was wondering how he would do that too, cause of the transfer case sticking up where the seat bottom cushion and inner rail should be. 5Gallon bucket maybe the seatbelt still there LOL
BlueJeep
It's not as bad as it might look. Worst case scenario is that we lose the sliders on the seat and have to raise it about an inch...
mcbrat
yeah, that seat was always pushed back all the way anyway.... I've got some RX checkered seats to go in it.... I've got a Legacy seat on the drivers side right now, but it was starting to fall apart....
tundrawolf
Those are some mad fab skills bro. THAT is something to be proud of! Let me ask you... I have a beat up brat, and I want to put a vw beetle on top of it. I need an EA-81 engine and a 4 speed dual range transmission. What did you do with yours? The Beast I Drive
Hey Mick, I had a crazy idea the other day, since the 4wd gears on that trans are directly linked to the main input shaft on the tranny, a good way to keep them from stripping out would be to weld them up solid in the 4wd position. -Bill
