Well I coughed up $750 for a jdm for the RX, another $200 for clutch, gaskets etc and went to put it in today and discovered at the last minute.....the damn motor mount bolts had been cut off!! yea 3 out of 4 had been cut right out leaving the block hole filled with a messy bolt. So i had to pull it back out of the car and now need to go spend more $$ on a steel bit and some easy outs. Is this common with JDM's? for gods sake how hard is it to pull 4 bolts. just a *************** session more than anything, but I do have a question:

 

is this reason enough to ask for my $$ back?

No, not enough reason.

But when it grenades on you in a few hundred miles, then it will be.

I really hope it doesnt, but you all know the bad luck I've had with used EA82T's :-\

I dont think you should get your money back but a what the hell phone call is in order. 750 bucks is not chump change. Motors should be looked over buy them before sold.

you DEMAND your money back---------3 broken bolts = MONEY

 

tool time - getting tools& parts (taxi's cost money)

tool rental-hoist (you dont own the one your using your renting)

your time removing bolts = money

 

most important what if you damage the block getting those bolts out.

your out ONE motor ==MONEY

I wouldn't mince words talking to the people I got it from, if they claim they 'inspected it and blah blah blah' that's a really crappy oversight and makes me think they didn't do anything - other than sell it.

 

Where did you get it so I can avoid buying anything from them? Oh, and send them a link to the USMB with your post, so they can see that they just lost potential sales from the entire board.

 

It'd be worth renting a small plane just to drop it through their sales office roof.

I Suggest you to Ask the Sellers About it, Maybe They Sold you the Wrong Engine, or Maybe they can Give you Another... Worth Call `em.

 

Could you Post Pics of That? ... Maybe we can Figure out the Better Way to fix that if the Sellers Doesn`t do Anything... (but Loose Customers with that Behaviour).

not good. definitely justifies SOME kind of reimbursement . . . bring the receipt for the bolt removal tools and make them at least pay you back for that . . . let them know you won't be shy about spreading the bad story . . .

Oh please - weld some nuts to the remainder of the bolts and turn them out. Big deal. DO NOT drill - DO NOT use an easy out. You will regret it. Those are last resort options.

 

If you can't handle a broken bolt then you shouldn't be installing an engine - let alone an EA82T.

but, maybe they tried to removed the bolts the correct way and maybe they broke due to being seized. Or maybe they did cut them, which is bad. I dunno, I would at least try and get a little money back from them for the time and pain.

The bolts were clearly cut with a torch of some kind. They also cut the exhaust pipe and damaged one of the turbo exhaust studs, i was concerned when i saw that, but the nut threads off/on just fine. One other thing I can't understand is why they cut the harness. On my car the harness is simply 2 quick disconnects, takes 45 sec instead of 25 sec to cut the wires. Are they really in that big of a rush in Japan to get the motors out?? If the engine was going back into a RHD car that would be the height of stupidity I would think. I will call the company next week and let you all know how it turns out, until then I don't want to give someone a bad name when they have not been made aware of the situation.

 

Thanks for the offer of help, I think i should be able to get them out I PB blasted them and they are soaking now. I have EZ outs, the only thing I need is a steel drill bit, but if you want to come over and help I may try to get the bolts out Sunday evening around 6.

Yea your probably right GD, but hey here I am. the bolts are not broken btw they are cut flush with the block (well, 2 of them, 1 has a nub left haning out). Does it seem feasable to weld a nut on the inside? I dont have a welder but a friend does, ill try that.

Yes - weld a nut on them. Spray them with penetrant while still hot Then let them cool for a minute or two before turning them. It may take 5 or 10 tries but it will come out - carefully work them back and forth and don't give up when the first 6 nuts snap off. The heating and cooling action helps break them loose. This method rarely fails - I've used it to remove broken turbo flange studs on many 20+ year old OEM peices.

If you read there disclaimers, everything except for the longblock...ie...Block, heads, crank and pistons..........everything else is *complimentary* and not warrantied.

 

YOU are expected to deal with any mounting, wiring, intake fitment, seals, gaskets, hoses, sensors, and yes, motor mounts.

 

Nothing but the longblock is warrantied. They WANT you to have to swap over all of you're original accesories, including motor mounts.

 

It is crappy though, I would at least talk to them, they may offer some help or compensation.

Yep. If I paid that much for an EA-82T, I would expect them to give me a partial refund for that kind of damage and hassle.

BAH responsibility! Yea i totally hear you, I expected to swap intakes, etc. I guess the half of a bolt in the block was just extra bonus material! I was just irritated when I went to put the engine in. I never checked the MM holes because it sat on the ground from the time it was delivered until I went to put it in. Just never crossed my mind to check. If I had a full on shop with a welder, air compressor etc it would be no big deal but I guess most people who do this do. I will get over it, its mostly time not too much $$$. Gonna try to weld on bolts this week when I can borrow a welder.
