I recently removed my fuel/air mixture screw on my Hitachi carb and found it to be severely worn. Is there any way to machine these screws or buy replacements? It seems like you could reshape the end and the screw would just be a little shorter, but still work?

Hi, like many, I was having a lot of idling problems. With the idle adjusting screw all the way out, I could adjust the mixture screw and it would idle high just fine, but when I tried to get the idle down it would run like crap. Turns out that someone had set the throttle cable too tight, so even when the idle adjusting screw was all the way out, the carb was getting WAY too much gas. I backed out the idle adjusting screw and loosened the throttle cable and it made a huge difference, so if you are having an idle problem, I would definitely check that out first since it is easy to correct (although that is probably obvious to many!)

Tracked down a blog from the 1300g sports i have mentioned earlier, it is a translated version, has lots of picture but for you kosta look at the disc brakes as well as the exhaust system, and if you have not got excited yet look at the webber carby and manifold at the bottom of the first page. Cheers Thierry

I just saw this on E-bay, and i'm thinking of picking it up as a backup engine for my FF-1 especially since its so cheap... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Subaru-EA63-Long-Block-1400cc_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33615QQihZ019QQitemZ290216451194QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW#ebayphotohosting From what it looks like, it is an EA63 (note the coolant crossover with the hose, indicates its an EA61/62/63) but it doesn't have the dual-port exhausts... Its from Japan, so i'm assuming its some mish-mash model engine thats not too common here. Any ideas?

I hope a few of you Northeastern vintage Subie owners will bring your cars out to this event on August 10th, 2008. Don't let the "Sports and Exotic" title deter you, they welcome any Japanese car '89 and earlier. The first three hunderd registrants get a complimentary commemorative event dash plaque. Sign up is free, you don't pay any entry until the day of the show. I'm in. How about you? Mark your calendars now!

Not sure where the best place for this type of post is, but I thought I would stick it here since this is where I normally post. But has anyone seen that old 80's movie, "My Science Project"? There's a great scene where the kid steals plutonium using his remote control subaru brat. After a long day of changing the clutch in my 79 brat, when I saw that, I just cracked up. Dumb movie, but awesome subaru scene.

When I stop, oil drips from the right side pipe right under the engine, and smoke billows out from under the hood. I lost an entire quart today already. What the heck is going on? EA71

Is any EA71 intake manifold able to fit on any EA71 engine? I'm asking because I want to get a manifold to chop up for a chevy carb to fit. I have no idea what year my EA71 engine is. I do know that it is not the fat case. Can I go to the junk yard and get a '79, '80, '81, etc. manifold to fit my unknown year EA71? That 66 chevy carb's gonna make this little engine scream. I know it.

Hey everyone. Well this is the weekend, my Brat's going to get a new clutch, and fellow board member S'ko has convinced me that we can do it ourselves. I have an invite in the meet and greet section. If any So Cal board member was to come hang out with me and S'ko and help out this Saturday, PM me and I'll give you directions and my number. Food and beer or soda will be provided! So other than that, anyone got any tips or tricks to share? We are planning on pulling the engine to get to it. I also plan to replace the rear main engine seal, the oil pan gasket, and the clutch cable. It's a big job for me and I am a little intimidated by it, but S'ko is supremely conf…

Is anybody with web skills interested in "rebuilding" www.vintagesubaru.com in collaboration with me? This is my longstanding website, (it's in serious need of an update and ongoing management), that I would like to share the responsibility, (and credit), with someone else. I'll continue to pay the fees, domain/hosting, so no cost to you. I think the site could be made far better and more informative, if someone with better Flash/HTML experience than I would join in. Is anyone out there interested in this co-ownership? Todd

Thought I would run this by you guys to see if this has cropped up with you all before. Driving my '79 Brat the other day and the Charging Light comes on, the fuel gauge and the temp gauge both drop all the way down (even though there is plenty of fuel in the tank and the engine is obviously warm) So my first thought is that this is a fuse. But then later, charging light goes off, and the fuel and temp gauges resume their correct position. Looked the fuses over and they all look OK. Problem happened again today, and the car is driving fine, so I do believe that the alternator is charging the battery just fine. Though I haven't checked this for sure yet. I should a…

Well, I took the bumper out of the box and looked at it. First of all, it is BRAND NEW OLD STOCK (it still has a plastic like film on it). Second, I noticed a very small dent (that I took a good picture of). Third, I don't know if it is a front or rear (based on the label on the box)(which I took a good picture of also). If anybody is interested, and knows what it goes to, let me know. Thanks, Jon

Lake George 1969. Tom O'Connor in the two stroke #99 Saab and Ken Watkins in his #19 "Fierce Sparrow" Fiat. Hello everyone, As the current VP of the Adirondack Motor Enthusiast Club [A.M.E.C.], I'd like to announce an exciting new race class for our 2006 ice racing season. Look what showed up in the back yard this afternoon! After searching around for the past year for a Brat in PA that wasn't going to bankrupt me, I finally found one. And a first gen no less! It's in rough shape. Almost all east coast brats are heaps. (Heaps that often go north of 2k in price) This one has it's fair share of rust. Floor pans, rear bumper mounts, tailgate is pretty much useless. But, the frame seems okay. The bed actually only has surface rust on all but the very back. And I'm told it runs, but the fuel pump is most likely shot. Lucky me- it came with the original brush guard and has sliding rear glass. It also has a sunroof?!? (Is that stock or af…
