  1. yep cam and crank sprockets were different swapped them over and it fired right up.
  2. In the ea82 cars per the service manual both the 3at and the 4eat used behind turbo engines had 3.454 front diffs. All others used 3.70 or 3.90 diffs. I made the mistake of using a turbo 3at in a nonturbo car and it almost killed me when I put it in 4wd on the snow.

Don't rely on the temp gauge! get an accurate aftermarket one that actually gives you a temp reading/value. If you miss the "heat spike" on the factory gauge it'll then show as running cooler than normal - because it's no good at reading the temp of steam... Job done by then too. Cheers Bennie
  4. Forget the extractor. Those only work for new clean bolts that snapped off. Never for old rusted ones. Penatrating oil, them try a pipe wrench, unless you are lucky enough to have an open end wrench that big.
  5. yeah i'd walk. the tensioners are fairly reliable and not problematic unless oil is neglected. they are supplied by oil, if the oil isn't changed frequently they'll get gummed up and stick, otherwise they're reliable. but now that these engines and cars with them are going through multiple owners, in the rust belt, and are nearly worthless, the oil level, and change intervals, routinely get ignored.

there is a little coolant hose under the intake manifold. check that if it’s leaking there it’s very hard to tell

Try filling up the radiator and pressure testing the cooling system. If you don't have a pressure tester and can't borrow one try running the car at idle with the radiator full and the cap on. Watch for any leaks as the pressure starts to build up in the cooling system.
  8. Yep. Mike's got it. The 642 gasket is from the '04 to '07 EJ255/257 and the 770 is from the 8+ EJ257 GD
  9. Back to the EA82T for a couple of reasons.... 1. Club rego with original engine 2. I wanted to do something different, I have a few things to try on the old EA. 3. I'll probably crash or loose my license with an EJ20 Im running my EA82T on the EJ20G loom via a EJ20G plug in Wolf3d (which I'll configure to run an EA82T) so if I ever need to go back to an EJ, I just pull the engine and drop in another EJ20G and plug in a standard WRX ecu and drive it
