  1. Are you going to use your broken cam as the core? Will they do that? Curious minds want to know. Also I think i have a few cams, the one with the big gear on the back etc. make offer I better get pics to show you what it is first.
  2. probably have the fans pushed into the belt for AC and Alternator and that is keeping it from turning over. But you need to get the hood open before trying to start it, you could have a battery that is exploded, shorted wires that could lead to a fire, etc. So, open the hood, cut it off, it is junk anyway before trying to start it.
  3. if you are lucky, the cable is intact, but maybe one of the hoop ends came off the hook it pulls.
  4. cheaper to buy a factory fitted car with AWD and turbo. if money is no issue, then go ahead on it but i warned you cheaper to just get one already that way.
  5. take any working drill and 2 new bits. drill thru the hollow rod with one new bit and time it with stopwatch drill thru the solid rod with new identical bit, time it with stopwatch which is stronger if you don't break bit 2 then you may say both are equal but i know which is better. or take both rods, clamp in a shop vice take sledge hammer, and whack at them. which one is better? Or which tree will be stronger, one with a hollowed out rotted stump, or one that is solid. Now, I do know something about baseball bats, and the reason MLB uses wood is cause wood doesnt dent, it breaks but not often, every hit on aluminum would dent the bat. this should go to off topic though.
  6. we need a emoticon for opening a can and worms coming out... you just opened a can of worms. 1. even the 05+ leak headgasket, but it is usually just oil and external leak. 2. agree. I experienced that instability. You will need snow tires and that may not even fix it. 3. I would just fix your headgaskets, again and use the newest iteration of OEM from Subaru gasket. They have had about 4 different styles since the original engine, so if you get the latest iteration, should be okay again for another 150k.
  7. The old style HG leak is different for the 05+ most do not leak coolant at the headgasket. Most only leak oil..... and it is external... just wanted that fact to be out there.
  8. please tell me you are using more than a cinder block for supporting this while working on it....ie jackstands do not crack in two like a cinder block will and collapse.
  9. ah silly me forgot about the metal coat hanger...
  10. zzz cut the door out around the lock, get a use door.... smash out window, get used window. call a locksmith etc etc etc Then, make extra key copies, and learn something from this. Either way you have to pay for an honest mistake.
  11. start by swapping right side out. then roll the dice and test.
  12. Looks like you left on my exhaust from my red 94. Isnt that too loud? I got used to it on mine i guess, but glad i took the stock exhaust for me. How are the hokey seat covers up front doing?
  13. winter blend ethanol gas. that is what it is likely to be. the stations around here are dumping the crap gas on us now.
  14. just toss them in the garbage, which they are. put a wanted ad on here for some old used ones, oem, and reboot them. sorry that is the truth. I bet the new ones on there now have a "liftetime" warranty, which translates to a lifetime of hassles and problems
  15. spare parts left after normal service not good. Looks like one that goes from the intake tube between the airfilter and throttle body
  16. I might go for giving a try without them next time in i am in there. On a related note, when i went to look at a local 96 SVX advertised a few years ago, i notice the belt covers were missing bolts on the bottom. Also, there was no splash shield underneath, and the sidemarker light socket connector was unplugged, connector was right behind the headlamp socket, just beggin to be plugged in. I took this as a sign of being poorly maintained, serviced by a non expert. I would rather have seen no covers, than ones not even installed properly; not that i havent hacked a few cars myself.:-p I am not a fan of cats so that may be reason to remove my covers....
  17. stray cats like to take shelter on a cold winter day up in the nice warm engine....
  18. best to put odd size up front left, the front diff is open and it will keep the issues down by having it up there.
  19. trans probably has lots all the funcitoning part of AWD by now if you ran those tires for more than a few weeks.
  20. part of the purpose of the covers, is to prevent fingers, hands, sleeves, long hair from getting pulled into a running engine. Same purpose as fan shrouds...
  21. sweet, heack yeah go for it, forget the stupid cat box.
  22. ""Ballchinien"" lol is that ET in the back next to the sailboat model?
  23. a small exhaust gasket leak at the bottom of the head to header, can shoot hot enough heat to the bottom of the cover to melt it.
