I dont hear it at shut-down, it only last for about 4 seconds at startup. My EA81 hatch did the same thing and the motor doesnt get hot or anything.

If it goes and you have the $$, you could get one of them sweet CCR motors.

At startup after a few preliminary revs of the engine I hear the sound of coolant rushing through the heater core I assume. Is this a normal sound that most experience or a sign that I need to flush out my heater core?

The EA81 sings a beautiful song that rivals that of Shakira.

I see the resemblance with the wagon and a KIA. The sedan looks like the previous generation of Toyota Camrys.

I drive a BRAT and those are as rare as virgins here in the southeast. I don't usually have that much trouble. Other daily driver on the opposite side.

My hatch used to do it. I always attributed it to a burnt valve or crappy egr valve. Mine sounded like a confedereate artillery unit though. Got pulled over once a week..

Id love to go through the gears on that ER27.

Ive did the whole metallic shift knob thing and only thing to say is be careful. Winter is a crappy time to learn that a metallic shift knob is the coldest piece of equipment in your car. Last thing you want is a cold shift knob when you are freezing to death yourself. I ended up having to wrap a hanky around it so my hand didn't stick to it like the fat kid off "Christmas Storty".
