1997 Subaru Impreza question
Durania replied to soobie_newbie67's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIf it was a WRX or STi engine it would be different. I am just not a fan of the NA 2.5's.

1997 Subaru Impreza question

Hood Scoop
Biggest I would go is either a stock bugeye WRX scoop or one from an RS/OBS. Please don't strap on a STI scoop from the 04-05s. I would make fun of you for running something like that.

Why better fuel door on 95 Impr L than on 96 Impr OB?
Durania replied to brycarp's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI thought the same thing on my 2000 RS. I was irritated with that point as well. I remember seeing people source JDM parts to fix the issue since a flat fuel door would be needed.

Durania replied to gritle's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI will agree. That thing is shot. I just replaced the 02 WRX head unit in my Outback this evening. POS got really greedy with my bootleg cds.

1995 Impreza/2004 WRX interchange
Durania replied to glh1975's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYou just asked a question with several different answers. I'll give you my opinion and will justify it. Unless you have a secondary driver and feel confident working on the car yourself, I would go look at the car at least. If not, I would start looking for a used bugeye WRX. You can get one of those pretty cheap, may have a bit of miles on it but I would definitely hold out for one that has not been modded. I fail to see why you would want a LSD in it other than it sounding cool to have. With your car being automatic, most of your engine's power is going to the front wheels anyway. I have no clue about the gear ratios between the two but I can bet money they are different. If you were to look at buying the motor and the car was hit in the front, I would personally pass myself. The newer engines are interference unlike your 95 and there is a huge probability the timing belt jumped and bent some valves. You said a turbo. Is that on the factory motor? Not a good idea as the compression on your stock motor is a lot higher than the EJ20 that is in the WRX. This means you won't be able to run boost probably not higher than a few lbs. Not to mention, you will need different headers, uppipe, crossmember, downpipe, larger exhaust and a tune (To name just a few). Pass on the car and buy an older WRX. I would check out the seats though. I had a set of 03 WRX ones in my 2.5RS and loved them dearly. The 04 will have the one piece black ones which are kinda desired. The fronts bolt in no problem, they do sit about an inch higher and will require the reuse of your stock seat belt buckle. The rears are a different story. They require some modifications to get installed.

? re: 6-disc changer
Durania replied to J A Blazer's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX+1 Although, I quit fooling with ebay a long time ago. Found I can find Subaru parts better and cheaper on boards like this one and nasioc.

? re: 6-disc changer
Durania replied to J A Blazer's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI've got a WRX 6 disc changer in my 95 Outback. 2 weeks ago the thing stopped reading CD's and wouldn't eject them. Sucks, I loved how the thing looked and was free.

Do you still have the jump seats. Least he left the frame in there and didn't cut it out like most.

Looking at a 97 Legacy GT wagon..
Durania replied to subie94's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYes, it is an interference engine. Do you have any idea who did the head gasket job or the parts that were used? I would at most get a leak down and/or a compression test done on it.

I bought the beast!!
That's hot. Make sure and post a video when you get that beast running.

Brat Topper Snugtop Gas Strut size
Most autoparts stores carry those lift struts in various lengths. We had to buy some the other day for my company car. It's a Jeep Grand Cherokee and the middle glass portion wouldn't stay open and would wack you in the noggin.

Baja Turbo vs. Sport
Durania replied to darthsoob's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX1. You do need to run 93 Octane. 2. I change the oil on my STi as well as about 30 other people I know very well every 3,000 miles with turbo Subarus. 3. Check the oil when you fill the car up. 4. The one main advantage would be that the turbo models will not have the threat of headgasket leaks like the naturally aspirated ones. 5. You are thinking of the cat material in the uppipe become dislodged and getting sucked into the exhaust side of the turbo. You can always get a catless uppipe. To be frank. It seems that you don't really want to mess with some regular maintenance and checkup items. I can't imagine the turbo lag being THAT bad where it would irritate you. The bottom line: It really comes down to how the owner before you took care of the car and maintained it.

Just a thought: Could you not prop the hatch open and measure it from the point where the strut mounts to it in full open position?
