  1. ok, i'm in over my head here but: if the svx is a 3.54, it has an 11 tooth pinion with a 39 tooth ring gear. does any other subaru have an 11 tooth pinion??
  2. found my answer. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showpost.php?p=789194&postcount=1
  3. i absolutely agree with this, but only because i've been reading it here for the last 3 years. however, last night i was looking through a gates.com timing belt catalog and they did not note the 97 - 98 ej22 as an interferrence engine. ( they did note the 2.5 as interferrence and i forget if they did for 99 - 00.) i assumed they had failed to do their home work. but i was wondering, has any one here had bent valves in a ej22 97 - 98 (99?) after a timing belt break? just checking.
  4. 95 - 99 2.2 manl = 3.9 2.2 4eat = 4.11 2.5 manl = 4.11 2.5 4eat = 4.44 the early 90s had no apparent pattern. i think 94 was the same as 95 but not sure. turbos were likley different than others of the same year and trans????
  5. i think my 2.2, has one stud w/ nut and one bolt. which do you have on the bottom.? maybe the bolt unthreaded. that sounds more likely than a stud breaking or unthreading.
  6. this car would put yours back on the road for about 1000$, if it's still available. http://wheeling.craigslist.org/cto/983818621.html

  8. first, what makes her think the cat is going bad. it maybe, but dealers like to say that when you get a cel code p0420, which is usually a bad front o2 sensor, not a bad cat. who said her cat was bad and why? second: https://www.subarugenuineparts.com/oe_parts_cat.html http://www.subarupartsforyou.com/ http://www.1stsubaruparts.com/
  9. i'm confused. did the axle stubs not fit into the rear diff or did the axles not fit on the stubs???
  10. question regarding compression test: can you manually turn the cams and close all valves to do a compression test with no timing belt? manual close the valves to no 1, hookup the compression tester and then kick over the starter with no timing belt. repeat for 2, 3, 4. would this work? trying to learn, john
  11. slightly off topic, i was amazed to learn, years ago, that mountain climbing ropes were rate by a certain number of falls, a 5 fall rope or an 11 fall rope. after it had been through it's rating, it had to be retired. you could use it for a swing set, but not climbing. who knew you could engineer a rope. i was amazed, i was also young and dumb. i guess seat belts are a one crash belt.
  12. it has a "liquid" crystal display. take it in side and let it warm up, it should be fine.
  13. there are : snap ring - 1 ea pressure plate - 1 ea drive plate - 5 ea. driven plate - 5 ea. there may be a second pressure plate.? sorry , i cant find any numbers.
  14. the duty c for a 97 obw is 31942AA090. you'll need 2 ea - 31954AA071 transfer valve body gaskets if you search the above number on the board you may / should find the clutch disc part numbers. good luck.
  15. i think there is supposed to be a vin etched into the block on the passenger side near the trans/engine joint. but i was never able to find mine until i pulled the engine. look for it on the 2.5 so you'll know where to look on the 2.2. you'll want to know if it's a 98 or assume it is if you don/t know. 98 is an interference engine , 96 is not. the timing belt is due at 105k.
  16. if this is true, sell it seperate. did you ever figure out if it was the trans or the car causing the problem? just out of curiosity, i'd love to see hoe it ran in another car. but who's going to go to that much trouble with thar much risk? good luck with the new one.
  17. i think mine did this once when the cover to the air filter wasn't closed right. it was leaking air.
  18. this may be one of those cases where 'just because you can do something, doesn't mean you should'.
  19. call them, tell them your model & year and that you want the ebay deal. they'll get you the right kit. they want you to have the right part and be happy. that's what i did.
  20. the errors usually made when replacing a timing belt are due to using the wrong marks on the cam sprockets and or the crank. if you have any questions at all, search/ read / and ask. maybe yours just slipped, when you were putting the belt on, but better to be sure than to have to do it again. good luck.
  21. is it a manual or auto trans? the gt has the outback trans and final drive ratio, 4.44 auto & 4.11 manual, with legacy size tires. this combo made it 'quicker' off the line and gave it a lot of power with the 2.5L engine. the ej22 will reduce that power, but it will still have the most powerful trans / diff / wheel combo that they've put out in recent years. if you have a 5 spd it should be less noticeable. the auto should only be a problem if you are in a race. do the 2.2 swap.
  22. you're right. my mistake. i guess i should correct the other post. thanks, john
  23. the seal on each side has 6203ul on it so i think that makes it a ntn 6203LLU; which would make it this one. http://www.ntnamerica.com/datasheet.asp?CO_PARTNOSEARCHTYPE=BEGINS&CO_PARTNO=6203&MANUFACTURER=NTN&BEARINGCATEGORY=RBSRD&CSEALSHLD=Double%2Dlip+contact+rubber+seal+both+sides+%28LLU%29&CL_PARTNO=6203LLU&
