  1. Well, there's two factors here. Up there, like Albany and north, going up towards the lakes its Dodge cars and scotch drinking. They're in a different world than the rest of NY and New England. As a matter of fact,Subaru of America recently ran a radio ad clearly stating that the NYC area is now the leading sales market in the USA. Factor two, you're right. The EA81 cars joined the dinosaur status my '78 and '79 wagon's have. The "GL/DL/Loyale" is right behind them. Mostly due to rot, without question. The early Legacy, now there's a point I've made for a couple of years now. It seems they rotted out quickly too.Pre-galinized bodywork, poor painting, etc. Those cars went ragged fast,to me. There are plenty of examples left down here but they are fading fast too,and most show great wear, but just won't die. I relate these to the '80-84 cars because they also had paint issues and held water in all the wrong places and rotted out all too quickly, while having a reliable engine and drivetrain. You come down here, boy,we'll show you some real purty Subarus. BTW my '92 FWD is just great, and solid too, always a NY or MA car. My '78 wagon too, always was within 10 miles of my home, but it was rustproofed properly when new.
  2. Congrats to both of you and best of luck. Lots to do here before I can even consider the Dragon, but I'll see what I can do. Certainly,Rob coming makes me want to push to make it happen. Where are you starting out from? How many overnights? How far down the Parkway are you guys going?
  3. Trip out? You didn't eat those mushrooms in Oregon, did you???!!!! :-p Dragon thing,I'll be trying, can't promise though.
  4. Now that's dedi-freakin-cation!!!! Ended up getting a call around midnight but the studio was closed for the night.... See you next RedneckFest...:-p
  5. Got no call from my musician friend so sorry,no late night trip up. Glad you guys had fun.
  6. Thanks spark,PM sent. Did Andrew ever make it there? He's in Eugene OR these days hanging out with octogenarians.
  7. Have fun guys! And,we did have an ECSS1 already, but only a couple dozen hardcores were there. This would be pertaining to the base here on the USMB. Carlisle is a National Event as they advertise it,and we are growing as an ECS Group. The new wave of Subaru owners is begining to show interest there. And of course,we have Connie's Cookouts !! You WCSS people
  8. Sorry guys, can't make it. Have a great time.....if you can beat your efforts here. Company Family Day at Quassy Park, niece's graduation/birthday party MUST attends. See you all next time.
  9. We did it to the infamous touring wagon while ripping through Pine Barrens for the ?? 4th or 5th time. Just the top punched through a little, but enough to say bye bye to the car. My opinion, don't waste any more time or money on it.Use it.Deal with the moldy smell, obviously you have already on rainy days.Get a few of those fat paychecks from your new job and go 2.2 !!! Something pre-97,cheap and effective.
  10. I will do my utmost to make it,but certainly can't promise anything. Rob,when is Sturgis? Maybe you can hit that on the way back if the timing is right. Any plans on the route back? Going the same in reverse or maybe swing a little northeastward??
  11. Yeah,I was thinking along these lines too.But we don't have to see his g'folks like he does.Guilt, and all that....but hey if you "sold" it to a friend who would more or less hold it for you untill a little time goes by... Mechanics and tinkering with cars is something you obviously want to take part in.They'll recognize that as your hobby and appreciate your wanting to restore that classic over time. They don't feel that way now,but they will in a few months,a year,or so. My opinion. That is a unique vehicle in FL these days.
  12. Hey,nipper does have friends!! ...so he says... Going to be good to hang with all these ball breakers,I'm sure. Any children coming? Besides us? As long as I can make it I'll bring up something you folks haven't mentioned.
  13. Like I said,no Friday or Monday classes.Or at least not late Friday or early Monday. He's still married!!!! Devotion? Commitment? Some people will do that sort of thing. Especially when you have a trustworthy Subaru. BTW he lives in NY,not CT and if you look at a map it's just into NY from Danbury,CT so it's a good 35+ miles north of NYC. If you met him, you'd believe him.
  14. Cool, yeah, send me a number.I think the last time I called you didn't answer/call back because it changed....talk to you soon. July looking good so far.
  15. You PM'd that number to me,but I don't really need it.Thanks though,it's a different number from what I have,so that's probably the home number. Shawn, hit those yards and let me know what's there from the 70's....please.
  16. July looking pretty good for me. I think the first weekend is tough, but later gets better. I might even hit the famous Jersey Shore for some time in the waves, make a weekend out of it. Don't forget, when its dry you NEED a dust mask of some sort-bandana,T-shirt,etc....but there will be much dust kicking up on anyone not in the lead position. Glad you're doing better,Neo!
  17. OK,but as I know it I'm not exactly ready to start a list and carry this forward. If you guys get 25 then someone might want to step up and take the order to PRP. I'm just too busy right now,and not continuing with any EA81 cars. PRP = Pecision Replacement Parts http://www.prp.com/ Derek Churchyard is THE guy to deal with. We have established a good relationship with them. The price we got is well below their retail price.
  18. Glenn, That's all wonderful, but the guy is as unique as his car's mileage. You do all the math you want and call it as you see it,that's fine. I believe the guy. So,between the two cars they have well over 2 million miles. That Hatch is rusty but salvagable.Could make it to 1 million too, with some help. Anyhow....I'm going to call him later this week to see how he's doing.
  19. He told me he always taught in places like U of Michigan,U of Florida,etc.etc...and he's stay there in a small apartment during the week, not have a Friday afternoon class or a Monday morning class, and blast home on the weekends. His routine was to get home, park the car, drain the oil,THEN go in and see the wife.Come back later and finish the oil.And if it was the fifth time he'd do a tune-up too. He's a classic.
  20. Pretty much... Take I 84 west to Rt. 67 in Southbury,CT Head north on 67,that's a great ride and quick too.One of the best motorcycle/sports car sections in the state! That is from Southbury to New Milford on Rt. 67. Personally,I would go that way and not try to go all the way across Mass. and then down.
  21. Unfortunately parking is the issue.Besides,it appears he doesn't really want the 1.7 mil. gone. It's now the Hatch with over 450k on it that he's focusing on getting rid of. This doesn't help either: Here's the Professor by his 1.7 mil. wagon: Should have asked him for the Helmut's license place holder. My brother was a Subaru tech there in the late 70's/early 80's. You can see -for us up here- it's really not bad,the wagon, for what it is.Right now it's almost as rare in these parts as my '78 wagon. But,since he had no children in his life I guess this is just like one. He's very attatched to it. As for the hatch, that was his wife's car mostly.Trying to extract a price out of him was difficult, but when I mentioned $500 or so he said he thought that was maybe even a little low....so we'll see how long he waits before dumping it off. He's selling his current house, going to focus on a less expensive plot of land and build a smaller house for he and his wife. He's 80 years old!! He's going to focus on staying in Greece -where he is from- and keep a small house here not too far from where he is now. So,he says the end of this coming week he needs to do something with the Hatch. To me,he's nowhere near ready to move, but he has gotten rid of TONS of excess he had around.I actually drove past his house to his neighbor's because I couldn't recognize the yard without all the Subarus and stuff. Great stories he has. From high ranking public officials to students he's had to just about everything this guy has seen a LOT in his years. He holds no real optimism for this country right now,and justifies that with substancial economic information. He's a Professor of Economics and was one of 28 leading Professors who Russia hired to consult with when going from a Planned Economy to Free Enterprise ....and he is the ONLY one they retained afterwards. A great experience even though I'm not getting any cars out of this ....yet. I will do my best to keep in touch with him and make sure that 1.7 mil. car stays around. But at this point,he wants no publicity and does not want to bother with SOA or anyone to write an article, etc. My camera and his related stories are all we have.No reciepts since he did almost 100% of the work ever done to the car. But I have no reason to believe he's not telling the truth. And his wife verified the mileage. The odometers in both cars either don't work anymore or were changed. I loaded some shots into my gallery if anyone cares to see some more but they aren't all that great. The cars as you can see were tucked into a fairly crowded garage.
  22. Thanks Jon,I was going to post asking for a Harry's update!! Good timing. And yes,I'm wanting to go for the 2.2's we have. Sure can't expect 70's stuff, and don't really care for the 80's anymore .... which means I'll probably get the 1.7 million mile EA81 from the Professor ...see the 1/7 million mile car post for details.
