'86 GL Hatchback: Dashlight Dimmer Switch
TheYeti replied to TheYeti's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
ruparts, Thanks for the detailed response. This is for an '86 EA81 seires hatchback. I will do a search for the posts you are describing for the ground issue. A loose ground could easily be causing everything I describe. -
Hello all, I have an ongoing issue with my dashlights and the dimmer switch. The dimmer seems to work for the dash when the engine is not running. Once started, the dash goes to full brightness and the dimmer no longer functions. While sitting at a stoplight one morning, the dash dimmed to the switch setting when I pulled down on the steering wheel. The headlights dim while at low idle, along with everything else (this has always been the case). Voltage drops below 12v according to the guage. The battery is always charged, and lights are as bright as ever when RPM is around 1k or above. There is never any "flickering" while driving. There must be a bad connnection or a short somewhere. Are there some connectors I should be checking? Any ideas to get my dimmer back are welcome. Maybe it is just the switch itself. Thanks! j.

I just got done lifting my '00 OBW another inch and a quarter. Save yourself some bucks over the King's and use a set of 04-06 Baja springs. You will need the baja springs and a set of outback dampers / struts to acheive the same type of lift. I believe the top hats and spring seats are all the same for Outback and Legacy.

Ok, that is freakin' brilliant in my opinion. Well done

A 195/60r14 will work best IMHO.

Bummer aboot the clutch. Which reminds me; I will need to change mine out pretty soon.... Blech!

Jerry, Sweethouse took us up highway 93. There is a little parking area just before you start dropping down into Boulder. -
I like the color

I received a few updated pictures of the hatch so I will just post them here. Since the last update, I have installed KYB GR-2s, replaced a bad front wheel bearing, added a set of Hella 550 fogs, a custom exhaust, new tires, and tint. I am sure there have been a few other things since as well. Future modifications will include the installation of some 99 RS seats, and a new sound system, and a DeMoss built Weber carb. Enjoy. -

They are fewer than you might think. Out side of what you have read about them already here or outback.org, there isn't much out there. If your worry is "a stiffer ride", you have nothing to fear. The combination of the GR2 with the springs is far better than stock. Stop kicking the tires and do it
-
Nice. I thought you had returned that baby to stock though.
-
My write up with the king/scorpion springs and GR2 set up is on here somewhere... Just do a search and I am sure you will find it. If you want a set, get them. You won't be disappointed at all.

My vote is on the ignition switch...

I like it! I also like those lovely WRX seats you have in there. I hope to do the same one day with my hatch. -

Nice score on the coupe. Connie, why do you give a crap about what other board members here think? I dump money into my cars all the friggin time. Why? Because they were or are "my cars". It is my hobby. I enjoy putting time into them. I enjoy taking a lemon and making it into something nice. Right now, I catch crap for putting time into my daily driver which is a common everyday Integra... yeah, flame it up, kids Anyway, it is your car, lady. If a full resotoration is your goal, then do it! I think it is a great thing so long as you get to enjoy the experience and the results. -

86 Hatch with no cracks in the blue dash. -
They look really nice! I would like to do this for my hatch in the very near future. Nobody ever takes pictures of the mounts. Be a hero and post some pictures of the mounts...
