The positive side of WCSS, the fun stuff.
Here's one of my favorites. "OMG! they're everywhere!" Turns out my lense was dirty or scratched, most of my photos came out pretty blurry.

The positive side of WCSS, the fun stuff.
On the brighter side. The mud hole was a complete success. Cheer and cheers and cheers from the crowd when Noah pulled that lifted (turbo) Toyota out of the hole. Big oooooohs when Submater broke his tow strap trying to pull out the other Toyota who tried the deep part. (lucky he didn't make it the second hole, it was 6 feet deep. lol) I got to see quite a few good people that I've got to meet over the years because of having to do with Subaru stuff. Noah's still my favorite. Tex and Monica a close second. But the coolest person I got to meet was Brian/monsteroo(ru?). Mean that. Turns out my Father and Sparky grew up together? !! tiny little world. Profitted a prodrive shirt, probably won't ever wash it it's that cool. Profitted by being in the right place at the right time and getting to smoke one of the best cigars I've every smoked handed to me by John Hubach from Subaru West. <--- payed for the venue again to btw!! I'm absolutely grateful to Richie and Lisa. You two put up a big chunk of change with risk involved to help support the cause again. Your work and hustle made the cause a great deal of money. I'll let Ken thank the sponsors who provided all the give aways, he grabbed them all except Audio Integrations brought in by Jay Syphon. Corky and Ann and Ed and Jeannie (sp?) are invaluable. It wouldn't work without the help you provide and the jobs you perform. period. Tex' magic with PK's artwork was what made it possible to market the King of All Logos Ever. Stickers, mugs, t-shirts, all that. You should charge people, I'm envious of your skills. Sean and Garner help with $ and time every year, but more importantly, kept me going with good spirits and pep talks and just plain positive additudes about the whole thing. John Alley is the coolest person in the world if you had your choice of people to work with who have the pull with the bigshots and knowledge of all things local to the venue you choose to throw a shindig at. Julian is not as old as his age. Sideways in the giant water truck with a guy who must be 70 is pretty cool. You're all gonna go crazy when you see Jerry's next secretmobile. (hate away secretmobile haters) lol Clay is a hero at 14. Rob's hatch was the hero among Subarus for making easy work of the mud holes right after the first Toyota got stuck. That was about as loud as the crowd got. Or was it when the BIG toyota crashed into the big hole? lol Biggest funny part to me. Watching GD blow up his tranny with one of the biggest lacks of finesse I've ever seen by anyone in my years of offroading. Dude, let it wind down to low rpms before you mash it into reverse. Ken predicted it as you went in too. ouch. Above all, it was an uber positive thing to meet a cancer survivor, your car and your attitude and drive are stuff of legend, hair and beards come back, just different. Gives me hope that someone very close to me will live thru what's killing her. nuff said, more later, very tired.

My WCSS experience. (better part of it anyways)
Here's my take. I think this year's show could be called a success. Most folks had pretty good time. Many told me they were grateful or that they had a good time. The show made some money. Now. Here's why I'll never do it again. Too many of you are kids with more money than brains or sense. I'm talking to whoever it was that puked in the bathroom Friday night and left it for someone else to clean up. I'm talking to all of those who have no compassion or respect to people who are trying to sleep, the loud talkers or those who felt they needed to rev up there friggin engines in the middle of the night. I'm talking to the complete d i c k h e a d s who did cookies in their pretty little STIs on the way out. I'm talking to the minors I caught drinking who laughed at me when I asked them to poor it out and who made me resort to grabbing big back up to make you leave. I'm talking to the little chick with the big attitude who screamed "hey" at me and ***************ed at me for 10 minutes because I told her she had to wait and that her (already mud covered stock ea81 wagon) that she would just get stuck if she tried the mud hole part. I'm talking to her boyfriend who blazed on into the pit without permission while the crawler was still making its way out of the hole. I'm talking to the local kids in the Toyotas who had to get all sideways in the park on their way out. I'm talking to the guys who refused to turn off the music at 11:30 p.m even thought there were at least 4 kids trying to sleep within 20 yards. I'm talking to PDXtuning for having to beg them to park their cars with the other cars and not in the campground. (a friggin gain!) I'm talking to each and every one of you who couldn't get yourselves to park your cars in the "show" area during the show. (even though for 3 years now we've asked that everybody do so who brings a SUBARU!) I'm talking to Subiegal who stood me up for the 3rd year in a row even though I begged her to make an appearance. I was also let down by friends who told me they'd have "STAFF" shirts so I wouldn't have to work so hard when I got there. Ya know what I got out of this? I probably lost a good friend cuz I kicked his "apprentice" out for being a minor and drinking. I got told by some little angry woman that I disrespected her for treating her like everybody else. I got no sleep cuz you people couldn't bring yourselves to be quiet all night. I'm talking till 3 a.m. or later. I'm out lots of time and gas money and phone minutes for trying to bring Subaru enthusiasts together who it turns out know enough about Subarus that they voted my impreza 4th place in the 00-06 legacy catagory. WTF? So yeah, I'm so happy about this outcome that I want to take the money we've made and donate it to charity and tell you all to make a good time for yourselves next year. cheers EZ

EA81 Carpet Q?
They're pretty friggin similar. Just pull your Brat carpet and use it as a pattern to cut new carpet. OEM shmoem, new carpet kicks rump roast. Works for the bed too, I've kept an original carpet as a jig for cutting around the seat belts and stuff.

why are offroad foresters so rare?
Indeed. But high mileage 2.5s made in 98 are like suicide. They all blew their first head gaskets at 50k miles.

Apparently 6-ply offroad tires don't always have 6-ply sidewalls
I present to you some tires with a 6 ply sidewall.

went wheelin' with a couple of jeeps...
You can tell in the picture he's a rookie. Look at the front tire. It's gotta be at 40 lbs psi. Even ATs work much better when deflated some. He has the bead lockers for godssake. Sometimes the drivers are just too lazy. It was worth a little clutch stink to get this photo.

Friday caravan to WCSS?

That was nice of them. Sidewall punctures are rarely honored. If it has a 6 ply sidewall, it will say so.

went wheelin' with a couple of jeeps...
I almost deleted this thread cuz it has too much to do with Jeeps, but this photo is too funny. Driver or Jeep error? I guarrantee this hole was tougher to get thru.

Arrival times for WCSS. Please read.
Whatever time the staff gets there. I'm guessing 9 a.m. or so. After that I think they'll let people in. Ken and I should be there around 2-3 depending on traffic and caravan delays. I understand about those coming from far away, but encourage people to try to hold off on showing up untill 4-5 p.m. EZ

The Fairgrounds won't be open for us untill Friday. We officially only have the grounds for Saturday and Sunday, but they've been kind enough to let us use them on Friday for set up and for people coming early. If you show up on Thursday, they'll turn you away. Please don't. Please plan your trips accordingly.

West Coast Subaru Show #8 date and venue decided.
I think we counted 60 cars last time on Friday night at Hood River. Friday is a good chance to get to know some folks ahead of the rest. It will also get you a better choice of tent spots. Might get you recruited as "Event Staff" too.

Can i just change my springs?
Very helpful. And very on the mark about travel and traction. Articulation is everything. Wheels on the ground = traction. I'd like to see you imitate the above picture with your spring lift and your VLSD. BTW, VLSDs are garbage when it comes to offroad. Well, if off roading involves anything but absolutely flat terrain like you're used to. But like Chux said. If you don't have any money, you have no business asking these questions anyways. But your question is answered, this thread is done.

why are offroad foresters so rare?
It would stand to reason that if you lift any vehicle, you would aquire new driving habits. Quick turns would be a thing of the past. My Toyota has the better part of 2 feet under the door sill. I don't spend time worrying about roll overs, I drive differently. More space between me and the person in front of me, less speed in the corners. Simple as that. My OBS is literally 5 inches taller than a stock one. It handles the road very nicely. I have no fear of it rolling, I'm positive it will spin out first.

a few poser pics of the resurrected Chuxwagon!
I used some industrial strength duct tape once to make a temporary boot. It lasted about 4 hundred miles.

VW Van help
Totally OT question, but I have no idea where else to ask it. Will the hubcaps from a 2002 jetta fit a 2002 Eurovan? The Eurovan has 16 inch steel wheels. Wheel covers from Schucks don't fit.
