alright , your deffinitely sounding like a broken record but yes it has a subaru system in it, i pulled apart the dash last night, has a subaru tag and a part # on the control module for it.. NO i do not have a red flashing light on my dash... beeps once when locking doors, twice when unlocking.. no lights flash at all..

heh, get back into the 70's and stick any car made on the planet against a chrysler newport in a crash test and see which one is safer, lol.. theres a reason people use those in demolition derby's.. take that same newport and ram it into the side of any one of these new cars made and see who gets hurt, regardless of age, airbags, sideimpact door beams, whatever.. that newport would lay the smack down on any new car out there.. anyways, one of the safest 80's cars i have ever had was an 85' toyota celica.. a lady in a 85' pontiac bonneville pulled out in front of me, i nailed her at about 30 mph right in the passenger side front wheel area.. that pontiac was totalled, pushed the wheel all the way up against the valve cover of the motor.. only thing it did to my celica was push the bumper in 1/4" and broke my blinker lens.. now thats what i call crash worthiness.. no matter what car you get you are always gonna be in danger when driving.. you can be in a new subaru, volvo, etc, and get t-boned by an excursion doing 40 mph and you might as well kiss your butt goodbye..

awsome, i gotta go get a key made for my outback tomorrow.. the parts guy makes me new keys free of charge whenever i need them.. muuahaha.. since i send all my subaru, toyota, and chrysler parts requests to him from work.. maybe i'll have him cut me an STI key for my outback,

sounds to me like you got a bunch of junk in the tank and it may be plugging the fuel lines/filter.. you may wanna drop the tank and clean it out.. or else change the fuel filter every few weeks. (this may burn the pump up tho with alot of resistance in the lines) i place my bets on what i said above..

good deal man, sounds like the 99' outback i got for $1000... ended up i had a cracked block though.. i put a 2.2 out of a 95 impreza in mine, its a plug n play install really.. and i never have to worry about "if" my headgaskets are gonna go again.. if you decided to do a 2.2 if you get it apart and find a cracked block or something, just get a complete 2.2 from a 95' subaru, use your 2.5 torque converter and flex plate and drop her in.. only thing you'll have to do different is get 2 vacuum caps and plug off 2 vacuum ports that are extra, lol.. also if you get it apart and end up needing a head or something let me know, i have 2 good 2.5 heads, cams, intake, etc (the complete motor tore down) sittin in my shed.. i'll hook ya up with something.. since your close by.. congrats on the steal..

lemme add something.. price is not always about how long it takes to do a job, but how much the tech knows to do the job right the first time.. dealers normally know more things about thier brand of car they specialize in than an idependant.. my shop foreman could whupp me anyday when workin on a gm, ford, or dodge. but give him a subaru and i could smoke him any day of the week, lol.. (he gets a littel aggravated when the service manager comes out and fixes the soob in half the time he could, lol..

being a service manager at a local shop, i see alot of cabin air filters, lol.. just about every car made has them now.. did you know a ford focus has 2 of them? bet not.. so does the honda accord v6 ex.. some cars you don't have to buy them from the dealer either, you can get them at a local auto parts place.. not sure on subaru's tho.. and just about every maintenance schedule for newish cars says change them every 30k. i do agree that the dealer is askin way to much to change the filter.. at my shop we would charge $32.50 + the cost of the filter to change it for ya, since only the glove box has to come out.. now on a focus i could see gettin a hole $65 in labor since you gotta pull the entire plastic trim right below the windshield off just to even see the damn filters.. look at it this way.. you want your car to breath clean air right? so the motor doesn't get a bunch of dust, etc in it right? bet you want to breath fresh air through those vents this summer with the ac on too huh? so you don't get dust, etc in your lungs huh? just get the filter and take a half hour and stick it in.. just htink it'll save ya some $$ down the road

some lady in a brand new audi almost got to buy my SVX on friday.. dumb woman pulled out rightin front of me and i was doin 50moh.. luckily there was room to dodge and slam on the brakes.. otherwise her audi woulda been bent in half and she woulda bought me another mint SVX. glad your ok, hope you totaled the other persons passat too.. might teach them a lesson next time they pull out in front of someone.

its not just subaru engines either that slap.. lol if you all heard my toyota you'd all wonder (how the hell does that thing run) slaps so loud, it sounds like a rod going to come through the side at any moment.. but its been doing that for well over 100K and never even flinches.. truck has 236k on it now and is a daily driver.. so i'd say get your new shortblock and if the slap coems back, just live with it.. just my .02

well after gettin my 95' 2.2L engine outa the impreza donor car.. i set in to putting it in today.. started at 9:30 finish and drove the OBW for the first tim in a couple months at 4:30.. woulda took less time but i had to take it back out a 2nd time cause the wrx torque converter and flex plate would not work.. had to put my 2.5L flex plate and converter on.. anyways, everything plugged right in.. had to cap off a couple vacuum lines that go to a charcoal canister my OBW does not have.. otherwise all went very smoothly.. power wise its about the same as havin a 2.5L in there.. i notice a littel bit less power when stomping it at 60mph.. doesn't have the get up and go quite like the 2.5L but is deffinitely good enough.. so my outback's on the road again.. with the cost of what i paid for it with a bad motor and the cost of gettin this used 2.2l from a trusted source (and i rode in the impreza so i knew the motor was good) i'm in this 99' OBW about $1400 including tax, tilte and tags, lol.. not going to complain about that.. off to bed now i'm beat after todays work.. ohh i also installed a 6 disc changer from an 04' wrx too

since i need a completely new motor for my 99 outback, how hard would it be to stick a 3.3 under the hood? anyone ever done the conversion? i know i'd need a complete 3.3 harness and ecm.. maybe an intrument cluster as well.. otherwise i'd imagine everthing else would be the same sicne they do make an outback with a 3.3.. any feedback on this?

on an ea82 hitachi carb, the screw you can get to from the back side of the carb, its right in the throttle bracket that the throttle cable hooks to.. i adjusted it and it didn't do a thing.. just wonderin what its for...

how gutless should it be?

just an update.. changed the plugs, old ones looked new, lol.. anyways, before and after the new plugs you could rev it then let it idle and it would have a miss on #2.. new plugs didn't help.. so i advanced teh timing, by how much i dunno, i'm gonna guess its at about 15+, anyways it runs nice and smooth now.. no matter if ya rev it or not.. accelerates a little better, not quite as gutless.. -

not a dead clutch, i can bark all 4 in 4 low on dry pavement.. nothing wrong with the clutch.. shifts good to.. guess i'm gonna get some plugs and bump the timing a bit.. if i have to run super in it, i'm just gonna park it and drive the svx.. it has to have super lol anyone got a used weber and adaptor plate layin around? that'll make her move a little bit better.. better yet i'm gonna mod the hitachi to work as a manual 2 barrell instead of vacuum operated 2 barrell.. done this on old nissans, makes a huge difference.. -

shoulda posted it, 5-speed, dual range 4wd.. the bus was one of those 50 foot + flat nose school busses.. this car will barely do 75 downhill with a tail wind.. my old carbed ea81's would run 100mph on the flats.. its just a plain out dog for some reason.. prolly gonna fool with the timing some tonight.. it leaks a little, doesn't burn any, get in it when its cold, pump it twice and she fires right up every time.. carb was rebuilt about 3-4 years ago by the previous owners local shop.. so i don't suspect anything there..
