  1. ok, i put my webered ea82 into another wagon today, another friend did most of the rear disc conversion, we got it running.. heres the problem, with the weber the ac compressor will not bolt up to the mounting brackets.. its hitting the carb. what do i need to do to basically swap places with the alternator and ac compressor? i know some soobs had the ac compressor on the far side of the engine next to the battery.. with my brackets, my ac compressor is next to the carb and the alternator is closest to the battery.. i need to swap those to get it to fit.. anyone ever had this problem? how'd you fix it? etc.. the new wagon is an 86' gl without power steering.
  2. in the conversion to my new wagon i'm gonna end up gaining ac and power steering.. my question is will the PS pump and the AC compressor still fit on the motor with the weber carb on it? for some reason i keep thinking the PS pump will interfere with the weber.
  3. yeah its the nice red one.. wait till you all see the really nice silver one thats gonna take its place ever seen an 86' wagon that is 100% rust free? even underneath :-p the red one did have some minor rust issues
  4. Blew the rear diff out, trans won't stay in first and grinds in 2nd and 3rd.. so i figure its time to strip her down, and put the guts into an 86' wagon with ac and ps..
  5. 2 small girls lifting it out is a bit far fetched, but 2 normal sized guys can lift it out no problem, the lump only wieghs 150lbs or so.. once its out replacing gaskets and such are fairly simple, everything that leaks on an ea81 is an external cover is all.. ohh replace the rear main seal when its out, will save a little headache.. if you have any questions post up here on the board, alot of us are more than willing to help another soob driver out.. as for carbs, i am gonna replace my friends 1 barrel POS with a 2 barrel ea82 carb and intake.. should give it a little more grunt and a smoother all around runing motor.. as for a weber 32/36 my wagon has one and custom 2 1/4" exhaust from the heads back.. makes a world of difference if they are done together..
  6. arg, lemme go dumpster diving this morning, if it hasn't been emptied yet. i tossed a ea82 manifold away the other day.. thanks all
  7. a friend just got an 83' ea81 2wd hatch.. its got a single barrel carb on it now.. what i am wondering is if this spare 2 barrel ea82 carb will bolt onto that manifold or not? or do i need to get a 2 barel ea81 manifold? ohh, he's got the factory cargo cover for his hatch too rare find
  8. the phase 2 engines will not work in a car that had a factory phase 1 in it.. i picked up a 99' outback with thte phase 1 for $1000.. had a cracked block due to not getting the head gaskets fixed and being sebverely overheated. anyways, i put a 2.2l from a 95' impreza in mine.. bolts right up and plugs in, completely plug and play.. if you do this only the 95' 2.2l will work cause its the only year 2.2l that had dual exhaust ports.. ccr can hook you up with one for about $1000 less than the phase 1 2.5l and the 2.2l will last and be more reliable than any phase 1 2.5l personally i got my engine used from a friend for $250... so i got out cheap with my outback i'd sau thier asking price is a bit high as well.. with the blown engine and all..
  9. plates are 86 Baru tan 86 gl wagon just wanted to say hi if your on the board, and nice old soob
  10. the one i snagged does not look like that.. and its not that small, hehe.. mine doesn't go in the small hole.. it goes in that real big dummy plate the one closest to the steering column on the left side.. black knob, red center , with the fogight emblem on it.. 3 wires coming out of the back.. guess i need to get a pic..
  11. guess this is pretty rare since i have never seen one before.. ya know that little spot to the left of the steering column on the dash that has a rectangular dummy plate over it? well i was walking through the junk yard, found an 85' EA82 4wd wagon.. so i look inside and what do i see? a factory foglight switch where that dummy plate goes.. (woohoo) so i snagged it of course.. there were no factory fog lights on the car though.. and looking at where the switch plugged into i think my car has the wiring for it.. need to go make sure but i do recall those 3 plugs in there that aren't hooked to anything..
  12. my 85' carbed wagon used to do it once in awhile.. every now and then at 4 if i was on it hard it'd blow clouds of smoke, so bad you couldn't see behind the car.. then the next romp it wouldn't do it.. i changed the ocv valve with a purolator from Advance and it doesn't do it anymore at all.. not even runnin 11 passes at the drag strip at WoT.. change your pcv, its easier than an engine...
  13. its about a 45 min drive from my place.. up past culpepper
  14. well my buddy from work thats a honda guy and had his civic there, wants to get an old soobie and make it a full on stripped drag car, lol.. all soob drivetrain but no seats, etc.. now an ej22 in something like a mid 80's sedan would rock some hondas, lol if i had the money i'd come get that from ya, but it would be a month or so before i could get the money.. will talk to my buddy and see if he wants to go halves or something.. curious.. with an ej22 in an ea series car can we still keep the D/R 4wd?
  15. i tried running it in every awy i could think of.. i ran the hole 1/8th in 4low only got to about 53mph.. tried in 4high.. was slower.. fastest way i could get it down the track was 4low until 2nd then go to 2high and leave it in 2nd.. would just hit redline by the time i got to the end.. shifting sooner into 3rd just hurt my time.. anyways, it was fun.. prolly do it again next month, hopefully have a 50 shot by then..
  16. couple of guys from work were goin to the local drag strip last night.. was test and tune night, so i took the ole lifted wagon.. figured it might be fun.. lol it was actually a blast.. i took off a few things to lighten the car.. like the roof rack, my subs in the back and the spare that was in the rack.. otherwise all the seats and stuff were in it.. its got a weber and 2 1/4" exhaust from the heads back.. completely de emissioned with a glasspack.. so she doesn't run or sound like a stock soob.. first run was against a buddy in his altima.. he beat me but not by much.. after that he blew his clutch, rofl.. And NO i was not the slowest car out there.. muuahaha.. i did manage to spank a little red civic (i am framing the time sheet)and 2 new chevy trucks.. one was 2wd, the other was a quad cab 4x4.. i had the fastest 60 foot time of anyone out there (besides the full on dragsters) my fastest times were launch .688 60' 1.973 330' 6.982 1/8th 11.51 speed 57.11 this was only an 1/8th mile strip.. either way aloota people were talkin about the soob.. did a couple fwd burnouts for the hell of it.. best part was hopping off the line and barking all 4, then the shift from 2nd 4low to 2 high i could bark'em again.. one guy came over and talked for a little while about it.. he was more wondering what was under the hood.. lol if it just had a little more grunt after i get it outa 4low there were a ton a covics there that were running like 60-68 mph.. not really that fast.. next time i go with the guys, i'm gonna try to round up a 50 shot of NOS and see if that'll give it the little bit of grunt it needs...
  17. this thead is like over a year old, rofl.. update, haven't got pulled over in my lifted wagon.. even dazzled teh county mounty and state trooper pullin the camry outa the ditch sideways with it.. i know they saw the expired county sticker from a completely different county on there.. never said a word..
  18. my lifted wagon ran right at 100mph for about 5 min down one of the roads here.. was takin a guy to the ER.. and that was with the hitachi on it, lol.. wonder what it'll do with the weber?
  19. that go between the body and the carrier bearing? on a lifted soob that is. just looking at them it puts the front half of the rear driveshaft at a bad angle, also the car likes to snag the carrier bearing on rocks and rip it to hell. i figured this out on my first 4 wheeling trip in the wagon.. tore that carrier bearing to shreds, then bent it back againts the u-joint.. had to bend it with a prybar to get it off the u-joint just so i could make it home.. luckily it didn't break or i woulda been stuck in a mud bog.. i snagged a spare driveshaft and put it in with the blocks out.. and when looking at it its a perfectly straight line from the trans to the rear diff like it should be.. ahh well, done ranting now..
  20. ohh forgot to say, when it sittin there half assed idling, it almost sounds like its either missing or not getting fuel at a steady pace (fuel pump, filter, and all lines are new ) if its not raining tomorrow i'm gonna go slap a stock coil back on it.. (have had accells go bad)
  21. this all started when i put a new axle in the left front.. started to run poorly at idle, sometimes it won't idle, others it will, is popping out the exhaust on deceleration.. i know, the cv axle has nothing to do with it.. but thats when all this started.. today i get a new weber put on it, and its still doing the same friggin thing.. runs fine as long as your givin it gas, otherwise it'll either die, or (if adjusted) will idle at 2k rpm's and thats iffy.. its got a new accell coil, plugs, carb, exhaust (de-emissioned) its naked under the hood, no egr, no nothing just a motor and a carb really. all vacuum ports on the intake have been plugged, the disty vacuum is going to the carb. there are no exhaust leaks at all, hell it doesn't even leak any oil.. but it won't idle.. is drivin me insane. am about ready to pull that axle back out and see if that fixes it.. anyone have any ideas on this?
  22. ok, after 2 hours this morning, in the rain, cussing, etc. i finally got it out.. since it was a stud there was no head on it.. i beat on it with the hammer, went to advance got a torch and got it glowing hot then took my vice grips and squeezed them together with a big set of channel locks.. was so tight is mashed the stud.. then had to wiggle the hell outa it for about 10 min, and it finally came out.. but the new carb didn't fix my run problem.. bah.. thats another thread tho.. thanks all
  23. alright, i got my weber, got 3 of the studs out of the intake, but 1 of them is stuck.. i've pb blasted it to hell, heated it up (with a butane lighter) used teh biggest pair of vice grips and it still won't come out.. so here the wagon sits again, cause of ************ed up parts again.. really starting to think i got a car with some serious voodoo goin on.. i fix one thing, another breaks.. its like $50 a day in repairs to keep it running.. so any ideas on how to get it out short of cutting it off and drilling it out (i really don't wanna do that)
  24. i hit a 85 pontiac bonneville with my 85' toyota celica once.. hit the lady at about 25-30mph totaled her car, pushed the pass front tire up against the engine.. anyways, i'd say he was prolly going 25-30 but that was too fast on that snowy corner with abs.. anyways, glad ya got it fixed.. onn i also had a 94 tracer wagon that slamed into a van doing about 25 mph, it didn't set the airbag off either.. it just crashed the drivers side headlight, grill, radiator, etc.. the airbag sensor on it were in the middle of the radiator support and were not even touched.. they prolly need to be crushed for the airbag to go off..
  25. see that cane in the pic? its called, look i put it on blocks and wedged my cane on the accelerator... don't ya think with 500k it'd have a little bit less shine and a few more bugs/paint chips on the front? i have my doubts..
