i need to poke my peepers in the hole sometime before hand.. but just by stickin my fingers in there the inside gear feels like it should.. not worn out or anything.. if it does need replaced how is that done? any easy way without pullin the tranny? cause if i gotta pull the tranny its going to be a 5-speed when it goes back together.. -

bought an 88' gl wagon 4wd 3at today.. car has no rust, etc.. very nice.. no 3rd gear, so i got it home pulled the governor out. and the gear is so apple cored that it no longer turns.. the valve itself is on good shape and not binding in any way.. so my question is does the gear come off of the assembly and can it be replaced without replacing the hole thing, or do i need to just replace the hole thing? next off, if i gotta replace the hole thing where can i get one? third.. do any of you have a good one, i can give ya a few bucks for?

another hicrappy thread.. fixed
Meeky Moose replied to Meeky Moose's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
well it had nothing to do with fuel, or the carb.. i swapped the coil with my accel coil off the RX.. made the problem worse, although it had a consistant miss now.. so i started pullin wires one at a time to find out that #1 was the cylinder missing.. so i pulled the plug.. nothing outa the normal, maybe a little lean.. so i swapped the plug wire with one from the other hatch and whala.. just like new.. actually runs better than it did before.. -

repolaced the one under the hood once.. bought both of them this time, going to swap them.. if problem is still there its gettin a weber.. lol its running so bad now it won't do over 40 mph.. forgot to mention the gas mileage dropped by about 20 mpg as well... so its sucking gas.. -
its an ea82, 4x4, 3 speed auto Gl wagon.. no rust anywhere, clean as new inside and out.. runs good doesn't leak or burn anything, just passed inspection, tires are less than a year old as well as teh exhaust.. no dents and good paint as well.. tranny won't shift into 3rd gear... i know alot of folks have fixed thiers by doing some r&R on the modulator.. 146k on the ole ticker as well.. guy wants $800 but very negotiable due to the tranny.. what do ya think i should offer him?

welcome to the board.. good soob pics.. heres my little pride and joy -
i had a camaro once upon a time.. had hooker headers, dual straight pipes into a set of flowmaster mufflers.. had the stock quadrapuke on it.. i took it through emissions (DEQ) and it failed so i pulled it out, adjusted and back around i went.. after about 4 times of this i got it to pass, without a cat, and deffinitely not stock.. after i pulled out i turned the screw back to where it was and drove off.. a car can be tuned down real far, to make it pass emissions without anything stock on it.. it'll just run like crap till you adjust it back when your done.. as far as visual inspection gut the cats and leae them on there, you can't tell the difference unless you take the pipe off and peek inside, which they won't do.. as far as a webber is concerned, if you take all of the emmision stuff off, so there is no evidence it ever existed i don't think they would know the difference...

blown shocks/struts will cause wheel hop whenever the tire looses traction and starts to slip...

well Junky finally started tellin me that its hicrappy carb needs to hit a dumpster.. anywhere past 3k rpms she pops out of the carb.. and looses any and all power it might have had.. at first i thought it was the coil wire shorting out cause it wasn't tight fitting around the coil.. so i changed that and still didn't fix it.. guess i need to spring for a weber at some point.. Junky might not make it much longer with that hicrappy on there..

What's the easiest way to break into a subie?
Meeky Moose replied to abq_jim's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
heh if its in my driveway they'll get a .22 shell in thier rump roast for breakin into my ****.. of course i never lock my cars, so its more like opening my door without my consent.. either way you get the picture.. -
#1.. i would say replace the thermostat.. seen this exact symptom happen when a car has a stuck open thermostat or there isn't one. #2.. check the connections that are on the fan thermoswitch that is on the radiator.. usually you can unplug the 2 wires and short them together to get the fan to turn on.. that will tell you that the fan works but the switch is bad.. then replace it. #3.. is there a reason it should be on? you should see it come on when you initially turn the key on, otherwise it should stay off.. if its not coming on at all, it could be a burned out bulb.. just my opinions on those problems.. on the idle i have no idea..

Ball Joint? barely driveable
Meeky Moose replied to MaroonDuneDoom's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
lol.. i drove my wagon about 7 miles to get it home (no tools) when my ball joint went.. then about 3 miles from home i said screw it, i'm not trashin my h-alloy just to get it home.. so i walked the rest of the way, got in the truck with the handyman jack and tools, went back and fixed it right there on the side of the road.. since your nut is gone, you have half the job done already, lol.. -

it is possible to pry the glass out and push the lock very easily.. without disturbing anything.. thats the drawback to subaru's.. no door frame around the window.. easiest way to get into one.. (used to do that in my previous job, car lot attendant) keys get locked in cars all teh time, soobs were easy to get into.. you can also take a very long small bar, and push it in the drivers sie window and push the lock on the passenger side.. (this is easier) -
