  1. xt6 alt is 90 amp, have one in my hatch, if anyone cares for a picture...
  2. so whats this fin look like? my hatch is missing something
  3. yeah i'd deffinitely outrun that puppy if it tried to pull me over, although my luck ther'd be a police interceptor sittin around the corner lol very cute tho
  4. find a new soob.. use yours for parts.. least that way you know what condition the parts your gettin are in
  5. i'm hopin i can get it road worthy again by then.. gotta do the front wheel bearing (about to fall out) rear main seal (leakin alot now) pass side diff seal. and exhaust work.. since i don't have the tools to do it all, i'm gonna enlist the help of scrapdaddytatum ... hopefully we can knock the bugs outa it soon.. i'm sure you remember what it looked like under the hood.. when i get that done i'll shoot ya a pic
  6. appreciate the offer for a place to camp out for the night but i won't be makin this PB run.. the hatch isn't up to it, yet... it wouldn't survive a 600 mile trip. well hell i'm leary of drivin it 20 miles into town to work on it :-\ the next time ya see the hatch it'll be, well, lets say, different
  7. the hatch i picked up has a 4/3 lift, tell that guys he's a retard, and if ya wanna show him a pic of a lifted soob i'll email ya one... the hatch has 14" puegot steelies, and 28" tires.. has plenty of power for hills and climbin still.. and will still do 65 mph down the road drivin like a car tires on the front seem to be wearing pretty evenly, nothin funny noticeable.. and its not top heavy since the drivetrain, engine etc. is still stock hieght... just my .02
  8. 4-speed tranny seems fine to me, little hard shiftin into 3rd but that started when i had spiffy lube change the water in the trans to 90W the right seal needs changed too, its drippin a little.. my speedo said 50-55, but the turbo wagon's speedo said 60-65.. so i'd say i got a tough tranny to take a 300 mile trip in 4L at 60-65 mph
  9. Miles why don't ya live closer to me?? i'd just have you do it, lol sounds like more than i wanna mess with.. its already lifted so i figure if i did do it the trans would be best, since i'll be workin in a gravel driveway :/ this was SVxperts hatch btw.. so rest of motor is sealed up tight, just not the rear main :/ i fugre if i gotta have a shop do it i'm gonna replace the clutch too while its apart..
  10. i need to change the rear main seal in my hatch, its an ea81, 4-speed D/R. this gonna be a tuff one to tackle? the shop wants $500 to do it.. the seal is pretty cheap, and i've pulled tranny's and engines before.. just not in a subaru...
  11. well the front lever on the trans, the one that the linkage bolts too and moves when you shift the 4wd lever.. when the lever was in 2wd that lever on the trans was all the way forward.. and it would not go into 4L at all.. in order to get it into 4L i adjusted the linkage so that front lever on the trans is in the back position when in 2wd.. so when you pull it into 4low it pushes the front lever into the forward position... i'm wondering if since the shifter was in the 2wd position and the front lever was in the forawrd (4low position) if i drove it home 300 miles in 4L? or at least the front end in 4L and not turning the rear? anyways, it was popping anytime i'd slow down and get off the highway, other than that it did great if it was in 4L for 300 miles
  12. that pretty much sums it up thanks.. on another note, i know when i drove it home the front diff was engaged as the linkage was adjusted backwards. so with shifter in 2wd the front was locked.. in 4th gear at 55 mph it ran at 3500 rpm's.. once i got it home and figured out the linkage problem and got it unlocked while in 2wd. 4th gear at 60-65 mph is only 2500 rpm's i always thought when ya put it in 4h it was the same gearing as 2h only locked all 4 in... so i was a bit confused when the rpm's changed just by unlocking the front.. any of this make sense? so needless to say since the speedo is off 10 mph cause of tires and lift, i never get it outa 3rd gear around here, and still don't get close to 4k rpm's...
  13. ok how would i figure out what differential and trans i have i this hatch? i mean as in open diff, locking diff, LSD, and gearing.. 3.70 or 3.90?? i know the rear diff is a 3.90 as it says on the tag, but doesn't say if its locking, open, or LSD.. the big one i'd really like to figure out is what the gearing in the trans and front diff are.. is there any way to find out?? its a D/R 4-speed too btw... thanks
  14. i've been gettin that black crud on my radiator cap too for about 14k now.. on the first long trip (600 miles) i took it lost about a half gallon of coolant.. once i filled it back up it was fine again... i'd still like to know what all the black crud is... i figured if it was a head gasket it woulda blown already... but it runs great no problems.. i'm pretty sure that the water pump is the culprit on the leaking, it ya drive over 70 it spews a little.. below that it doesn't leak a whistle... 289k original
  15. alright, not gonna make it to PB this time around, maybe next time... its like a 600 mile round trip for me, and the hatch isn't up to it again.. yet... would have to stay a night in a motel if we did come anways... next time around you all will see the hatch in an all new form hadda take the light bar off, its illegal in VA cop stopped me and of course i :argue: ahh well..
  16. good, good, just say when and i'm sure we'll have a blast.. got a few things to do to the hatch anways to get it to pass inspection.. the hatch i have is the one EJ went scuba diving with lol i'm sure ya've seen the pics..
  17. well around here its mostly outbacks and legacy's.. ocasionally you see the ea82.. only seen a couple ea81's theres a few kids that have wrx's..ohh and theres a baja or 2 runnin around.. seen 1 other hatch here, i have the only lifted soob in this area for sure.. till Jules gets his turbo wagon lifted..
  18. just lift it, would be alot better than cuttin the hood.. looks neater too..
  19. doh.. glad everyone is alright... doesn't run0flat mean he can drive it when its flat?
  20. bend it, anduse it as a sled in the winter.. one sheet should do.. that plastic will fly down the hill.. LOL did it once in a cartop carrier since i didn't have a sled... and lemme tell ya, plastic flat out hauls :moon: down a hill...
  21. hmm whats it cost to do that? thinkin the hatch would look pretty nea, fender flares and a rubberized texture..
  22. alright, i need to come see yur brat sometime, since your only 45 min away LOL.. now that i have a lifted hatch maybe we can do some off roadin.. since i've only lived here a couple years i don't know of any place to go.. besides the mud puddles on the back road to work maybe we can figure somethin out
  23. sorry gotta say this, my cousin worked at a napa in colorado, said NAPA stands for "Not Any Parts Available" anways... if i were gonan experiment i wouldn't go anything lower than 20W50.. my friends acura 5-speed used straight 30W and it imploded at 120k and he's an old fart so he doesn't hot rod it either.. just my .02
  24. yeah was kinda wonderin myself what i should put in this dr-4speed... all spiffy lube had was 90W. after they changed it, it started grindin in 3rd.. :/ but i had to get it changed when i did since it had water in it i know my turbo wagon has 80W90 in it and it won't speed shift into 2nd.. guess i'll try just about anything lol, gotta be better than whats in it...
