  1. Thanks GD BTW - youre the MAN for always replying to my posts! Believe me.....Id love to weberize it, but unless someone wants to almost "give away" a weber setup...... Im gonna hafta rebuild the hitachi (as I have WAY more time than money right now) -BAJA payments, plus NY state insurance..... and the fact that the brat isnt on the road quite yet. :-\
  2. YUP...... 30 bucks @ NAPA! Gonna give 'er a go sunday
  3. Hey all, This weekend I will be doin a rebuild on my ea81 Hitachi. (Im SURE that the problem is with the carb, BTW) I am pretty good with mechanical things, and I dont anticipate any trouble....but Ive never rebuilt one of these before. Any pointers? Any problem areas to watch out for? Any parts that frequently are the source of trouble? Thanks for any info.....yall are the best!
  4. Those are sweet pics! (nice trails BTW) You musta had a blast:grin:
  5. If its a manual trans..... I would suspect clutch is what youre smelling. My '03 makes a burnt smell from time to time also....and is most definitely clutch (when I've been romping on it) I also get the occasional whif here and there when Ive just been doing regular driving. Hate the smell..... but Im afraid that its normal.:-\
  6. Nah....I dont think that there will be too much rock climbing going on (at least I wasnt planning on it?) Just some mud and sloppy trails are always good enough for me to have fun. Thats what its all about:banana:
  7. I have been to carlisle pa a couple times....and there ARE a few showers on the grounds (plan on waiting in line) They supposedly do not allow fires.....but I have seen people have them in the enclosed metal outdoor fire thingies that people buy. :-\ My bro and I always go down in the fall, and they are pretty lax about the camping area that you get. We always have room to pitch the cabin tent and park a sube and a pickup truck. Sortof redneck:grin: . Wish I was goin with ya'll.
  8. Thank you sir! (seems like something I shoulda known.....but you learn something new every day.)
  9. Quick question for all the legacy guys..... I know what the H6 3.0 on the grill stands for, but on this '02 legacy we just got in.....there is the letters VDC on it. Whats VDC?!
  10. GOOD TIMES! Actually, I HAD the 600.00 something dollars for the ALLIED lift....but I bought my '86 brat instead!
  11. Im still runnin my snows (cooper weathermaster ST2's) , and boy do they have great off-road traction! Also good in deep mud....and I will be goin back for more/better/muddier pics:brow:
  12. Had yesterday off, and had the best day ever wheeling/trail scouting with my cousin Seth and his jeep. (Wish the baja had D/R...but I was just able to tackle the steeper hills in 1st gear) Enjoy the pics!!
  13. We had a '92 loyale that had the same difficulty. :-\ We used to use em by the emergency disconnects at the B pillar....and then click the lap belt seperately. We sold the car.....but its real nice to know that manual belts will transfer over.....as there are lots of loyales running around still, and I may just be owning one again soon.
  14. GD, Hey, thanks for the quick advice -much appreciated. I'll keep everybody posted as to what happens.
  15. Ok, I know that this has been talked about lots....but I need some advice before I either rebuild my EA81 or swap a motor. Heres the stats : 1986 brat - (86 means it should have the hydro lifters- right?) 140,000 miles. Endless tapping:banghead: . (more from the passenger side than drivers) I have replaced the manifold gaskets, and the oil pump (helped a lot....but noise still there) I ran thicker oil (10w40) and the noise ALMOST goes away when its run in the AM and the oil is thickest. I put a can of seafoam into the oil, and ran marvel mystery through the carb. Let that sit all night, then ran'er this morning till all the smoke cleared. STILL tapping!!! There is a percievable shake to the engine as well..... this might be a vacuum leak, I know....but I am really thinking that bearings are worn/shot? Is there anything Im missing....or have I exhausted all my options?
  16. Andyjo, Super cool man! Are you still thinking of making it to the northeast meet? If so, I cant wait to see that thing in person:slobber: !!!
  17. My '03 baja did the same thing. It turned out to be the pad seperating from its metal backing. Found it only when I did a full rear brake service. Very annoying.:-\
  18. Wow man.... I gotta do one like that for my BAJA!
  19. Jason, Hey man... Fellow baja owner here. I never thought of changing from the chrome color, but I will tell you the bars look to be "bolt on" from what Ive seen. Youll have to remove some of the black plastic cladding, and the inner bedliner sides (held on with clips and screws) I have never "unbolted" mine personally....but I have had the plastic parts off to see how things are connected. Let us know how you make out....and post some PICS!!!
  20. Hey 75 subie... D/R dont forget:grin: Thats EIGHT forward speeds of EA81 fury!
  21. Count me in boys! Lemme know, and Im there. Now I just gotta decide on old gen or new gen scooby truck!!!! (Jon- I'm lovin it!!)
  22. I have tried acetone....with as much as a 4-5 mpg improvement sometimes (but not always worth the hassle to me :-\ ) Other than this, I actually bought a chip that fools your intake air temp sensor, and it does add a LITTLE power ...but actually adds MPG @ freeway speeds. (29+ mpg @ 75-80 mph, fully loaded with 3 people, 3 bikes, AND camping gear for 8 hours:headbang: ) Also, Has anyone tried this? http://www.peswiki.com/index.php/OS:Joe_Cell:Replication:Hotsabi%27s_e-Cell
