New Brat Project......??
75subie replied to phillupmacrevis's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
yea its 941 didn`t sound like he'd take less but he may. he said he was in no rush to sell it and was holding out for whatever he could get. if your thinking about the ej20g contact suberdave on this board. he has experience with those swaps. i think there are certain phases of that motor that are better than others. i could be wrong tho..... -
New Brat Project......??
75subie replied to phillupmacrevis's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
that sure is it! i spoke to the guy. says its been sitting for years, he hasn`t seen it in a long time. only rust is where it was dented on the front fender. has jump seats and topper. its not a 91, but is a gen 2 style. there is no motor in it, but it comes with a 40k motor that he got from his buddy after the guy rolled his beautiful 8? hatchback. didn`t sound too bad, but its just a bit far away for me. sorry to really bad mouth the ea82t, but from what i have seen they just aren`t too great. so many of them pop up with bad motors or electrical probs, along with ones that have had new motors put in already. you would want a 5sp d/r trans, which the brat has a 4sp. ideally you would want a rx or wagon parts car so you have the trans/rear lsd diff/eng/wiring/computers. those are tough to find, but you can easilly find a ej22 parts rig (best years=90-96 legacy or impreza) a ej22t wouldn`t be bad, but then you'd need to find one. just my 2 cents Jon -

with the ea82t be prepared for premature head failure, as well as it not having as much power as an ej22. you can mod it to be equal to an ej22, but it will never be as reliable or replaceable, it will be more costly as well. it would take crazy mods to get it even close to a wrx...... what does the ad say in the paper you are talking about? just wondering if its the same. -

hey man just out of curiosity, did you pick up that brat that was advertised in one of the florida papers for $700. it needed a motor but comes with a 40k replacement? oh, and by FAR your best bet is to go ej22. its a fairly easy swap and is a RELIABLE source for 115hp. they are pretty zippy and known to last 300k+ not to mention they are non-interference, and are a dime a dozen to buy....... -

i don`t mean to be a jerk, but man your asking too much, thats why you haven`t found one yet. now and days if you really want a decent running brat and fast, you have to do quite a bit of leg work yourself, and be prepared to lay out decent amounts of cash. you rarely will find them cheap or free anymore. usually they are far away as well. who knows tho, maybe you will eventually stumble upon one thats perfect for you, just takes patience, time, and money.............. -

you've got this one: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=76404 have the guy deliver it to a das shipping terminal. you can do a title search on it later. i also know of a gen 2 rust free with topper and jumpseats in florida for $700 obo. it needs a new motor installed but it comes with a 40k mile ea81 for replacement. -
seanski06 you mind running this carfax for me? JF1GF4852VG821979 i picked up this t boned 97 obs 5sp a while ago for $300. been fixing/driving/transforming it to a rs. got a set of skirts on it and everything. i want to see if the 54k miles was legit along with how many owners it had. thanks Jon ps. if the guy throws in that jdm bumper and its repairable, i`d gladly buy it off you.

i actually could really use the hitch and hood off that thing, but shipping would be a hassle/killer cost. -

for the $11.99 it costs for a oil change kit (filter+5 qts of oil) from autozone, i think its good insurance to change it every 3k, but thats me...... -

i use fram all the time, never had a lick of problems. thats what is always on sale at autozone. i change my oil every 3k miles whether the car needs it or not. -
4sp d/r you can adjust the clutch, but he might have already. worst case, ea81 clutches are pretty easy to change.

Paul, i was at harry's 2 days ago, wish i woulda known you wanted to go. grabbed some stuff for the imp. only walked through the newest rows (2/1/07 until now) plenty of ej22 stuffs. mostly high miles but plenty good. that white xt6 that was up front in the car lot is now in the yard. someone took a few items, but its still got alot, including nice seats. -
Shannon, theres a 87 brat on philadelphia CL for $1200 if your looking......
