i'm a definate no. after being in the hospital for the last couple days, and after surgery, i'm not allowed to lift anything over 15 pounds for one month. so i can't fix the car and won't be able to go.
-
build a welder? wtf?... well i'm discharged from the hospital... so i'm back home in pain and can watch your thread. where's the new pics :-p
-
i'm relaxing with perkiset. snowboarding season is now cut short for me. and about everythig... i'll check out your post when I get discharged in a couple hours. too much work to look at pics on my cell and i'm looped on meds anyhow.
-
well it will be at least 4 weeks till I am allowed to lift anything over 15 pounds... so the car will be on hold for a month...

well another delay... one that I can't get around... presently in the hospital waitng the removal of my appendice. it's about to burst...

ea81 vented rotors, interchangability
Rooinater replied to Rooinater's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
hmm... someone must of converted mine years ago. they were vented when i got the car. 1980 ea81. -
he's already got his lsd swapped in. he was needing to convert a 3.9 diff to an lsd. it's in his car now.

i have read what you wrote, have you? by these lines you are illuding to a fallacy that holes have to be cut for the 5speed and someone won't stay warm. my interior shift boot from the EA81, the EA81 center counsel and the EA81 4WD lever fit just fine in my EA81 with an EA82 5 speed and i stay toasty warm. so, what holes are you refering to, if you do it correctly, you can use all the stock components. but hell what do i know... i've only been wheeling and modifing my own subaru's for 8 years...

Re-seal: EA81 Pwr steering rack input
Rooinater replied to 3eyedwagon's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
the reason why; is that it is actually cheaper to get another one from pap, then resealing it. if i recall correctly the 20 bucks to get another rack vs. the cost and actual hassel to replace it, out weighed spending more time and money on fixing the one that is in the car. -
hmmm... but once again, i use all stock plastics and stock hole, no trimming of the tunnel was needed and the boot still covers the hole... the only trimming or dents in the tunnel were from when i used a 4 speed tranny. used it for several years, but the 5 speed is still a lot nicer for day to day and offroad use; due to the actual gearing differances. your 4th gear is the same as my 5th gear gear ratio.

ea81 vented rotors, interchangability

i already have vented. just trying to find out when they went from solid to vented. only 1 ea81 in the the local junkyard... ea81 sedan. -
we bailed at noon, from qfc. after finding that one of my front brake pads went ua... we called it a day on a safety issue. jess brought up the good point that bad things happen in 3's, call it quits while we are ahead at only 2. shooting for another run in 2 weeks, keep an eye on this forum for a run post. i need to swap out a tranny, caliper, rotor and maybe some rear suspension components. tranny will be the big hang up, i have one, but presently lacking the proper jacks and such to do it safely. presently fudging around with my budget to afford the brake components.

ea81 vented rotors, interchangability
Rooinater posted a topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
so i was wondering if there is a difference in 2wd and 4wheel drive for the front brake rotors? i need to find a vented rotor, the only car i remember seeing at the taco PAP is a ea81 sedan, can't remember whether it was a 4wd or 2wd. so before i waste the gas i was wondering on the interchangablility... and which cars had the non vented rotors? i know generally ea81's are all interchangable, but i really would like to know the differences between the 2wd or 4wd and what years the non vented rotors came on. i have the vented rotors presently. thanks -

that's what I did. -
I don't know what you'd need to cut holes for... i'm still using the ea81 4wd shifter through the stock hole on my 5 speed. takes some adjustment but is not hard to use the stock shifter. it's not just better for offroad use. the 5 speed you actually have 4 useable gears on the highway with oversized tires. ie better gas mileage and more speed. I ran the 4 speed for a couple years, after getting a 5 speed it's a lot more highway friendly and I wouldn't go back to a 4 speed.
-
seemed pretty thorough. if I remember correctly we heated up and bent mine, all I can say is go 5 speed. better gearing, and that one extra gear before overdrive.
-
i didn't think about pictures until,... pop!... it wasn't so difficult last time, but slimy as hell and really tore up today. money dependent on repairs for another run. i have to flip a $1200 dollar bill for college next month... and i only get paid $1258... so if they don't fix my payments by the first... then i'm high and hell water for the month of march....
-
yeah but this one is lifetime warranty. just need to find another rear cv, and do another warranty exchange.
-
it sounds like it's the rear output of the tranny... sorry brian, it looks like i'll need that tranny. grenaded a cv shaft today also... missing brake pad tore up my front right brakes. it was real interesting i installed the damn pad. i just can't see how it got out. i can't find it anywhere near where i was working on the car, so it was on the car. to do list... swap tranny ea81 torsion bars rancho shocks limiting straps front right caliper front right rotor rear cv shaft (already on order. lifetime warranty) make or find a shifter boot for the nissan tcase shifter clean inside of car find spare front and rear cv shafts...
-
here's a few pics from today. didn't get many... broke axle hill, picture does not do justice. it ain't extreme, but that little hole on the left is almost 3 feet deep, then there is a few more on the way up.
-
well i'm out for now, unless i get a couple things fixed, i need to find an ea81 caliper and rotor for the front right. grenaded cv shaft is on order, need to find a spare also and i have to find some sealed ball joints also... so a big maybe now.
-
and we are back home. autozone needs to learn how to use there computers. they said they had one, but looked when i arrived and said they didn't... then found a really messed up brake problem... decided the best thing to do was cut the day short... broke axle hill has now claimed one of my cv cups... rarely do i grenade a cup, and i really grenaded it! almost 1/4th of the cup is gone along with the bearings... that hill is really erroded and interesting now! hopefully i will be a go for 2 weeks from now at belfair, money dependent on whether i can get the parts and fix the problem with the brakes. options are replace my torsion bars or tube, and convert to rancho shocks with limiting straps. presently my torsion bars are sagged. maybe if i soften it up a little it won't bounce so hard and claim a broken part so often... or yota axle, the first is more likely. anyone have some torsion bars they don't want and a front caliper and rotor???
-
installed the rear diff, all the breather hoses, finishing touches... going today, might need the tranny. the whir noise is still there. sounds like the general direction of the tranny :-\ we will see what happens.
