  1. I had given thought to buying the hub tammer, but with my Subaru being used for mail del. I have other things wear out like the sleaves or bushing, in the control arms that also need replacing, I think for most people the hub tammer may be right but for me I think the press was most useful.
  2. That is most likely for one side, I think I paid 250.00 labor and the cost of bearing which came to around 300.00 dollars, if you dont want to fool with a press, replacing the hub spindle assy.with one from wrecking yard is around 50.00 dollars.
  3. If you are talking about the one on the little round pully at the end of that assy. that goes down, I think that bolt screws into the pully you should be able to take it off and get it out with a ease out and then replace it with a metric bolt from hardwarestore, I dont remember but this pully may have a little bearing in it that may make it tough to use a ease out on it.
  4. If you want to start doing this yourself I would buy a Haynes manuel and it will show you how to remove the rear knuckle hub assembly, then I would replace it with one from the wrecking yard. Then you can get a shop press for around 200.00 dollars from Harbor Freight and you can then take the old one apart and put it back together as many times as you need untill you get it down. This is what I done on my front bearing and it is so easy it makes no sense to pay anyone else to do this. I have not had to do the rear yet but it dont look like it will be to much different then the front.
  5. When I had a cyclinder #3 misfire it turned out to be the E.C.U. If you will get a cheap set of noid lights, check and see if it is getting a signal from the E.C.U. all you have to do is unplug the inj. and push the inj. plug on to the end of the light, if it is working it will flash.
  6. Tranny mount at 95.00 dollars seems high, but they want 200.00 dollars for the power steering hose I need, that also seems high.
  7. I use Harbor Freight torque wrenches, they are not the most expensive, but they are better than not having anything. I would trust them to torque a head.
  8. You was not ripped off, you will know it when you are and you wont have to ask. I know because I got ripped off in 2004 on a engine replacement, I fought it in the court for about a year, it cost me around 1,000.00 dollars but it was worth it. Had I checked with the B.B.B. I would had known better then to deal with him to start but I didnt.
  9. Looks like Subaru agrees with you, they dont sell just the housing so I may have to buy the whole system rack and pinon, it looks easy enough to replace that.
  10. The boots look good, do they make a small clamp for that inner part of the boot these are wraped with wire, as are the other ones on my other Subaru. The issue is it is leaking where the hose fitting goes in to gear housing. I was hoping for bad threads on the hose end but the damage is where it screws in the housing. I was very careful, started it by fingers and it never got tight like they do when cross threaded but when it was all of the way in it would never tighten.
  11. Nipper, after looking at the drawing it looks like all I need to replace is the housing part of the steering gear, maybe that will save me some money.
  12. Thanks Nipper, I will go there and check that out. After further inspection of my hose I think it was cracks instead of the dog chewing.
  13. I replaced the hose and the fitting is leaking, it looks like the threads are bad in the gear even through I started it by fingers and thread it about half way in by hand it would never tighten all of the way up. I did take it back out and J.B. welded the threads, at this point I see nothing to lose. It has close to 200,000 miles on it and their is a small amount of seeping around the shaft.
  14. Does anyone know how the tie rods come loose from the steering gear, not the tie rod ends but the long rod that is under the rubber boot close to the oil pan? I need to replace steering gear and Haynes only says to undo tie rods ends which I know how to do. Does the new steering gear unit come with these long rods already attacted.
  15. No she has the taste for lots of things, water hoses, pant legs, fingers, anything else she can sink her teeth in. I dont think the hose was leaking before she got a hold of it.
  16. Thanks, I think the pkgs. get better care from most carriers as they get closer to the people they are going to, being we come to know most of them. Insurance and really good packing will take care of most problems.
  17. We have a fenced in yard but I bought the car in to park under the shade tree and the dog lies under it, she got the hose down near where it goes in the gear box. I think she put her feet on the drive axle and started chewing. Now I have the car locked in the shop away from her. I hope that is all she chewed.
  18. Yes the junkyard is a good ideal, I thought about that after remembering I got the pump from Capital City junk yard in Austin, I am sure the hose is probably still there I will call them tomorrow.
  19. Try these two used parts places, Campbell/ Nelson at 1-888-337-7757 or sales@findusedparts.com the other place is Capitol City Auto Parts, 1-800-252-7045 I have got Subaru parts from both places with good luck, they ship U.P.S.
  20. I dont no why anyone shipped U.P.S. ground or parcel post out of the post office, I am a rural carrier with the post office and pkg. shipped priority mail will get del. anywhere in the U.S. in two to three days and the cost is close to what the other costs in most cases. You are right U.P.S. ground is good is you are local to them, I can get parts from a junk yard here in central Tx. in about one to two days U.P.S. ground.
  21. Nipper, the mount seemed to turn fine when I had it off but their was no weight on it then, I am going to get a new one and try it. Thanks again for the tip about taking the stop and tail lights out one at a time to find out why the dash lights came on when I stepped on the brakes. I found that someone had put a 1156 bulb where a 1157 should have been, one has two contacts where the other only has one.
  22. When I had it apart the ball joint looked new so I did not check it to see if it was froze up, I will check when I take it back apart.
  23. How many days does it usually take to get parts from 1st. Subaru parts if you order on line? If I order parts by phone from Litha Subaru I usually have them in two days.
  24. Thanks to a new puppy I have two pin holes leaks on the high pressure power steering hose. I know some auto stores will cut and make new hoses, is this one that they can build? it has the rubber in the center with the steel lines on each end.
