AC Belt Tension nut broke
tcspeer replied to lhrocker's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIf you are talking about the one on the little round pully at the end of that assy. that goes down, I think that bolt screws into the pully you should be able to take it off and get it out with a ease out and then replace it with a metric bolt from hardwarestore, I dont remember but this pully may have a little bearing in it that may make it tough to use a ease out on it.

1999 Forester Wheel Bearing Problem
tcspeer replied to plarsen111's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIf you want to start doing this yourself I would buy a Haynes manuel and it will show you how to remove the rear knuckle hub assembly, then I would replace it with one from the wrecking yard. Then you can get a shop press for around 200.00 dollars from Harbor Freight and you can then take the old one apart and put it back together as many times as you need untill you get it down. This is what I done on my front bearing and it is so easy it makes no sense to pay anyone else to do this. I have not had to do the rear yet but it dont look like it will be to much different then the front.

cylinder 4 misfire... again.
tcspeer replied to eagleb's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXWhen I had a cyclinder #3 misfire it turned out to be the E.C.U. If you will get a cheap set of noid lights, check and see if it is getting a signal from the E.C.U. all you have to do is unplug the inj. and push the inj. plug on to the end of the light, if it is working it will flash.

Blu is back home - clutchpack.
tcspeer replied to nipper's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXTranny mount at 95.00 dollars seems high, but they want 200.00 dollars for the power steering hose I need, that also seems high.

clicker torque wrench... any good?
tcspeer replied to brus brother's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI use Harbor Freight torque wrenches, they are not the most expensive, but they are better than not having anything. I would trust them to torque a head.

Do exhaust welds cost this much?
tcspeer replied to Muppit's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYou was not ripped off, you will know it when you are and you wont have to ask. I know because I got ripped off in 2004 on a engine replacement, I fought it in the court for about a year, it cost me around 1,000.00 dollars but it was worth it. Had I checked with the B.B.B. I would had known better then to deal with him to start but I didnt.

Tie rods
tcspeer replied to tcspeer's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXLooks like Subaru agrees with you, they dont sell just the housing so I may have to buy the whole system rack and pinon, it looks easy enough to replace that.

Tie rods
tcspeer replied to tcspeer's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThe boots look good, do they make a small clamp for that inner part of the boot these are wraped with wire, as are the other ones on my other Subaru. The issue is it is leaking where the hose fitting goes in to gear housing. I was hoping for bad threads on the hose end but the damage is where it screws in the housing. I was very careful, started it by fingers and it never got tight like they do when cross threaded but when it was all of the way in it would never tighten.

Tie rods
tcspeer replied to tcspeer's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXNipper, after looking at the drawing it looks like all I need to replace is the housing part of the steering gear, maybe that will save me some money.

Tie rods
tcspeer replied to tcspeer's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThanks Nipper, I will go there and check that out. After further inspection of my hose I think it was cracks instead of the dog chewing.

Tie rods
tcspeer replied to tcspeer's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI replaced the hose and the fitting is leaking, it looks like the threads are bad in the gear even through I started it by fingers and thread it about half way in by hand it would never tighten all of the way up. I did take it back out and J.B. welded the threads, at this point I see nothing to lose. It has close to 200,000 miles on it and their is a small amount of seeping around the shaft.

Tie rods
Does anyone know how the tie rods come loose from the steering gear, not the tie rod ends but the long rod that is under the rubber boot close to the oil pan? I need to replace steering gear and Haynes only says to undo tie rods ends which I know how to do. Does the new steering gear unit come with these long rods already attacted.

Power steering hose
tcspeer replied to tcspeer's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXNo she has the taste for lots of things, water hoses, pant legs, fingers, anything else she can sink her teeth in. I dont think the hose was leaking before she got a hold of it.

1st Subaru parts
tcspeer replied to tcspeer's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThanks, I think the pkgs. get better care from most carriers as they get closer to the people they are going to, being we come to know most of them. Insurance and really good packing will take care of most problems.

Power steering hose
tcspeer replied to tcspeer's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXWe have a fenced in yard but I bought the car in to park under the shade tree and the dog lies under it, she got the hose down near where it goes in the gear box. I think she put her feet on the drive axle and started chewing. Now I have the car locked in the shop away from her. I hope that is all she chewed.

Power steering hose
tcspeer replied to tcspeer's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYes the junkyard is a good ideal, I thought about that after remembering I got the pump from Capital City junk yard in Austin, I am sure the hose is probably still there I will call them tomorrow.

1st Subaru parts
tcspeer replied to tcspeer's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI dont no why anyone shipped U.P.S. ground or parcel post out of the post office, I am a rural carrier with the post office and pkg. shipped priority mail will get del. anywhere in the U.S. in two to three days and the cost is close to what the other costs in most cases. You are right U.P.S. ground is good is you are local to them, I can get parts from a junk yard here in central Tx. in about one to two days U.P.S. ground.

Strut mount
tcspeer replied to tcspeer's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXNipper, the mount seemed to turn fine when I had it off but their was no weight on it then, I am going to get a new one and try it. Thanks again for the tip about taking the stop and tail lights out one at a time to find out why the dash lights came on when I stepped on the brakes. I found that someone had put a 1156 bulb where a 1157 should have been, one has two contacts where the other only has one.

tcspeer replied to tcspeer's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXWhen I had it apart the ball joint looked new so I did not check it to see if it was froze up, I will check when I take it back apart.

Power steering hose
Thanks to a new puppy I have two pin holes leaks on the high pressure power steering hose. I know some auto stores will cut and make new hoses, is this one that they can build? it has the rubber in the center with the steel lines on each end.

Strut mount
98 Subaru wagon, If I turn my steering wheel all the way to the left and then turn it back right I get a pop from the strut on the left side, and you can see the spring jerk. I changed the strut but the problem is still there, I think it must now be the mount is this one of the symptoms of a bad mount.

terrible noise
tcspeer replied to edjhover's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXSometimes you can clean and grease those pins and they still wont slide in and out easy. If one of them is not sliding they will make a noise when turning and stop making noise when the wheel is straight again. Check and make sure they move in and out easy.
