1993 Subaru Loyale No Spark!
Gloyale replied to drew440's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
No ity doesn't. Pin 27 is supplied with power from the ignition relay, from fuse 5. you are wrong dude......sorry -
The 4wd gears are not on the input shaft. (if they were you'd have a direct drive to the rear end, no gears) They are on a seperate shaft, directly behind the input shft, but not connected. The 4wd shaft is driven by a transfer gear on the pinion(lower) shaft. Welding up the lock collar could work well though. you're idea is good but I think you were just alittle off on your concepts of how the 4wd is powered.

Plug wires

I'm sure Napa has many more wires than just Belden. Supplier can even vary regionally. Just ask for the type you want....ie..NGK...Prestolite...etc... -
can i do a front/rear wheel alignment?
Gloyale replied to bicycle_ben's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
This is for EA82. However.......the control arm to trailing arm bolt setup is identical. I don't have an EA81 FSM Regardless of what the books say, THERE IS AN ADJUSTMENT. that was his question, not "is there an FSM listing for adjustment?" So......you want to argue about it more? You've been making incorrect statements, like trying to challenge me, all day in 2 threads. is there a reason? -

FSM lists fuse 12 Fuse 11 is for Fuel pump relay and ignition coil. Not part of ECU power. Now if he had no Fuel, he would check that. But he has no power to the ECU. -

It also supplies *all the time* power to the ECU. Does you're horn work? Flashers? you need to make sure that cicuit is getting good power. The fact that you're CEL isn't lighting at all means you have no power on that circuit to the ECU -

OK, well let's see. You haven't even produced anything but talk to back up you're claim. It IS possible to make an adjustment to the rear. -

Yes that is it. But I emplore you to check fuse 5, and all the fusible links near the battery as well first. I haven't seen many ignition relays actually fail -
I hate this type of logic. The older the car, the more appropriate to spend money on it. If it was a 3 year old car, would it be worth spending $2000 on it? let's see: $2000 divided by 3 = $666 per year. $2000 divided by 10 = $200 per year. You can't justify $200 dollars work for each year of the cars age? Cars are a consumable product. Everyone expects the value of the car to be more than the cost of fixing it. Guess what? doesn't happen that way. Car only KEEPs it's value if you spend the proper money to fix it. But do whatever you want. But if you can't afford the cost of maintaining a vehichle, it won't matter. You will spend the same amount either way, just a matter of spending it all at once, and having confidence everything is fixed. Or you will spend another $1500 for a new motor next year when the headgaskets on you're unkown condition motor go out.

It's either a fuse (check fuse 5 for the horn, see if horn works) Or it is you're ignition relay. It's the on;y brown relay up under the dash, and it has 6 wires not 4. -
AWD and Single Range
Gloyale replied to The Dude Abides's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
If you are talking about actual GEAR ratios (1st, 2nd, 3rd..etc) then yes, for the most part the older PT boxes nad the newer AWD boxes have the same gearsets. Final drive ratios are all over the map. -
Good lord, you guys have cheap prices out there. If the car was in good shape, i'd buy it for 700. What's a tranny? $400 and an afternoon? Sounds worth it to me. Also, this may be dumb question, but does it truely not ENGAGE reverse? or is it a matter of "won't SHIFT into Reverse" I.E. shifter lockout? They eliminated the easy access overide button(it's undert the cover). So the owner may just be stumped.

I've got the 83 Turbo supplement. It lists an adjustment spec for the rear alignment. Doesn't cover how to accomplish it, but the adjustment is listed. -
Plug wires

I personally avoid those Belden wires like the plague. I've had chronic misfire problems with those belden wires, espescially after 2000. (I think the 2000+ ECU is more sensitive)Are they the *maxpower* ones? yeah, if they are working for you that's great. I'd ditch them as soon as you have ANY issues with Power, smootness, or poor gas milage. True OEM wires were made by Yazaki, and were the best by far. As fart as I know you can't get teh Yazaki wires. The new *OEM* from Subaru is made by prestolite. You can sometimes find a Presolite set through a parts store, should be the same as the subaru boxed wires. If you want decent set, cheap, the "MagStar" brand carried by Knechts(prolly others) has been an acceptable alternative to OEM for me. $24 bucks, good rubber, good fit, nice black and gold look, and they have worked well for the few tune-ups I've used them. Not alot of long term data, but the short term is all good. Although I urge my customers to spring for OEM, I will use the Magstar on Pre-2000s if the owner is strapped for cash. 2000+ OEM (prestolite)
