  1. I'd do that if I was going to school sooner, but it probably wont be for about another year, and since I dont have insurance, Im not too worried about getting it on the road yet. That and since she got the car I've wanted to do a bunch of work to it and now I finally have the chance
  2. I want to do all this stuff to my wagon is because the only rust it has is surface rust (it doesnt even have that much), overall the body's in pretty good shape, and the fact that my girlfriend bought it last november for $170 (she sold it to me recently, and its her first car, so its kinda got sentimental value), and the only work I've had to do to it is (other than maintenance) is an axle and a fan switch. It's been an awesome little car. I think it would be cheaper to do the things to it that I want to do because right now I can't afford much, and I've got plenty of time to get this thing out on the road. As for mileage, I want the best possible, because I would be making an 80 mile round trip almost everyday, and its a lot of hills (either thru the canyon or on the freeway). Even if no one else does, I have faith in my little soob
  3. So I'm just better off leaving everything underneath?
  4. The other day I came to the realization that I want to do something with my life. I've had a couple of jobs at shops here in town, and although I was frustrated half the time, I decided that being a mechanic is something I want to do. So I figured that I want to try and get into a Tech School in Yakima (which is ~80 miles round trip) so I can become ASE certified and get a job at a shop here in town. Since I would be commuting, the slushbox that's in the subaru I have now won't cut it, so I'm thinking 5-speed swap. I did a few searches, and came up with this: Is that everything I'll need? (I'd be putting in a d/r rather than an RX tranny) If I were to remove the -rear axles (I’d make stub axles to put thru the hubs) -rear diff & mustache bar -rear section of the driveline Would that improve my milage (theoretically because there would be less resistance thru the drivetrain)? The only reason I ask is because I want to get the best milage possible during the summer, but still have the option to throw the 4wd stuff back underneath for the winter. The car has a carb, and I was wondering if a f.i. swap would be worth the time and money. Would I be better off going with the spfi, or mpfi? Which one takes more work/is better? Thanks in advance.
  5. Well, it looks like we might not make it to the show:mad: After being told I was going to get at least 20 hours a week, 12-16 doesn't cut it. Its really too bad, I'd love to meet some more board members. Well, I guess theres always next year
  6. We were thinking about finding a campsite nearby, and if that doesnt work out, theres always the back of the wagon
  7. Well, it looks like the girlfriend and I are going to bring her wagon. We're planning on taking off the morning of the 14th, spending the day in/around Astoria, and going to the show on the 15th. Hope to meet as many people as we can!
  8. You should've left the pizza hut sign on top lol
  9. It depends on the year, model, engine, etc... If you have an ea82, I've heard that having the flywheel resurfaced to xt6 specs, and using an xt6 clutch disc and pressure plate is a pretty good combo
  10. My girlfriend, her dad and I were walking around downtown Corvallis at around 10, and we spotted a lifted ea82 wagon. It was red, had about a 4 inch lift, a sunroof, rectangular tubed bumpers, and was sitting on redrilled 6 lugs. Does it belong to a board member? Edit: Sorry, no pics
  11. Any progress?
  12. Thanks for the input, that will make things a LOT easier for me
  13. So even tho it burns oil, the egr isnt hooked up, and theres a huge crack thru the windshield, all that wont matter because they're just going to make sure the numbers match the title?
  14. My girlfriend is going to be selling me her soob (87 GL, carbed, 3at, 4wd) as soon as I get my first paycheck (woot!), and I've got to get it inspected to switch it to an Oregon title. I need to replace the windshield, since theres a crack going from one side to the other. The previous owner removed all the emissions crap, and I need to replace it all, and I was wondering if someone could tell me what parts are needed. I need to do a motor swap, since the current one leaks and burns oil. What are the inspection people going to be looking for? As soon as I get it switched to an Oregon title, I'm going to be fixing everything thats wrong with this car, doing a 5 speed d/r swap, and possibly an ej swap. I'll post questions as I go, since I need to take this project one step at a time.
  15. Anyone? Theres an 86 mustang I could get for free that seems kinda iffy, and I'd really like to see its history..
  16. Can anyone run a vin for me?
  17. Check out the timing belts, if they look worn, don't hesitate to change them
  18. Do they have a detail department? Thats what I'd like to do as soon as I move down there. Are there any detail shops?
