  1. Is it the factory stereo or an aftermarket one? It sounds like theres a crossed wire somewhere. I don't know much about newer gen soobs, but take a look up under the dash and make sure there are no crossed wires.
  2. The temp gauge never went above halfway. The intake gaskets I got are felpro, and I haven't put them on yet. My dad looked at my car and thinks its ok to drive for now, so I haven't done anything to it yet. I was thinking the t-stat was stuck closed (because the upper hose swells when it's warming up). I'll probably change the t-stat and hoses today at work and see what that does.
  3. I've decided that I'm not going to start a project until after the 1st of the year, because I have a couple small debts that need to be paid off. But there's no reason I can't gather some ideas for when I do decide to start building a car. I've decided on: ea82 wagon ej22 swap 5-speed d/r into a divorced t-case 6" suspension lift rear disk swap 6-lug conversion at least 30x10.50's I'm not sure which t-case to go with, I'd like some ideas on what would be the best one to use. Also, I heard that ea71 diffs have a 4.11 ratio. Is that true? If so, would they be suitable for offroading? Or would I be better off sticking with the 3.9 ratio? Would I be better off welding my rear diff? Or would an lsd be fine to run with? I'd be driving through town on the occasional weekend, and with a welded diff, I'd be breaking axles left and right and I don't want to do that if I can avoid it. Are lsd's better for offroading than welded diffs?
  4. So theres finally something new with my coupe (other than the muffler rusting off), as I was driving to work this morning, most of the coolant decided not to stay in my engine anymore, and I was stuck on the side of the road. I couldn't tell what it was, and after it cooled down, I decided to drive back home. It seemed to go fine, so I filled the radiator up with water and grabbed another 4 gallons and drove it to work (30 miles). I don't think the thermostat ever opened up because the temp gauge stayed between 1/3 and 1/2 the whole way. I took a peek under the hood a little bit ago and didnt see where it was leaking, so I put a pressure tester on it and I noticed that the upper radiator hose swelled up. I took the tester off of it and started it up, and after about 10 minutes the upper radiator hose swelled up. I shut it off and ordered a new thermostat, upper and lower radiator hoses, and some intake gaskets. From the best I can tell, it looks like the coolant came out of the intake gasket. I didnt think coolant ran through there, but I could be wrong. Does coolant run through there? Well, at any rate, I'm going to be replacing the gaskets, t-stat and hoses after work. I'll post a status update after I fix 'er up.
  5. Don't have a camera to take a pic, but as its sitting here in the shop my coupe is at 223,143.
  6. One time I was at Gary's (All_talk) and he told me that 85 and 86 l-series were slightly different from the rest, (i.e. fan switch, headlight switch, the hvac buttons had a slightly different design) so that's probably why it looked different from yours.
  7. I'm gonna go with an ea82 wagon rather than an ea81, not only because I like the look of them better, but also because they're easier to come by around here.
  8. Either a Loyale or GL would work for me, since they're basically the same.
  9. Thats frickin sweet! I could go with something like that, but I want to take a complete wagon (doors, fenders, etc.) and build up from that.
  10. I'm not interested in newer stuff. I'm pretty sure I'm going to lift an ea82 wagon. Plus the fact that I don't have $1000. And you're all the way in Pennsylvania. But thanks anyway
  11. I know exactly what you're saying about the money/time dilemma. Time isnt too much of a factor for me, I work at a shop 8-5, tuesday thru saturday, and most nights the boss is there late, so I have access to the lifts, tools, etc. Money is my biggest roadblock, I usually find myself with little to no money a week after payday, so I end up floating along for another week (till next payday.) My ultimate plan is to d/r my coupe, which is my d.d., and have an offroad car built by wcss 10 so I can bring it to the show. In retrospect, I think it's doable, but again, money is a challenge. I was contemplating working overtime for a week, then the next week spending time after work building my car, etc, but I just don't know if I'll be able to get it done. What'll probably end up happening is I'll spend over a year putting this car together and then never finishing it. I just don't know. I'm sorry if I sound pathetic, it's just that I've gotten high hopes for projects, and then never started them. But this is the one project that I'd really like to see myself do.
  12. Ha! It surprised me to see that someone else had that pic. I see the end of the tow strap in front of robbie's car. That was when I got stuck in the snow in the blazer and he had to pull me out. That was a fun day. I have more pics from that trip if anyone is interested. Scott, that is in fact an option. That body style is what I'm leaning towards more than anything.
  13. Lol, I like the torch and sawzall idea. My plans for an offroad car are as follows: Leaning toward 85-89 wagon EJ22 swap 5-sp d/r rear disk swap 6-lug swap divorced nissan t-case 30x10.50x15s, if not bigger suspension lift only (so I have room for a front diff) some sort of locked rear diff. Either an lsd or welded. I'd really like to have a diff thats open for tight turns (like in town), but can be locked for on the trail. What would be the best option? Oh, and whats the best choice for a front diff?
  14. I was thinkin about a hatch, but I like wagons better, even though the approach/departure angles suck. If I do go with a wagon, I'd make some skidplates for the front and rear. It's gonna be a long time till I do build an offroad car, I'm just tryin to get ideas together.
  15. So, as I'm sitting at home today due to a migraine , I'm contemplating my subaru future. I want a nice daily driver, and I also want to build an offroad rig. I have an 89 3-door and an 83 dl 4wd wagon. I was originally thinking I'd make the 83 a nice daily driver, and put a d/r in my coupe, but that would leave me with 2 daily drivers and no offroad car. I was thinking I'd lift my coupe, but its in too good of shape to beat up. I could build up my 83, but I like the ea82 wagons better. What should I do?
  16. Robbie, how much do you want for it? Also, I've been thinking I might as well go ahead and do a 5-speed swap, since I'm yanking the trans anyway. How involved does that get? I know I need one of Jerry's kit, and don't I need to have my driveline shortened?
  17. So you have everything needed for the spfi swap? What would you want for it?
  18. Wow. That looks complicated. Or that could just be me being a noob. Is an spfi swap worth it? What would I gain with spfi over carbed?
  19. So alls I'll have to do is put the spfi intake on the ea81 heads, swap the disty (after swapping the gear) and I'm set?
  20. I'd like to eventually do a 5-speed swap, but I'm happy with a 4-speed for now. And Robbie, you have me interested in your spfi setup. What all is involved with doing an spfi swap?
