  1. Just got it back from SMOG. good news is I dropped CO from 4.44 to 3.22 i the 15mph and from 3.94 to 3.06 in the 25mph. But I still failed Obviously I am running rich. I adjusted the fuel mixture screw ALL THE WAY IN and it's still rich. questions: 1) shouldn't the engine shut off w/the fuel mixture screw all the way in? 2) what else would cause the carb to run rich. Thanks BW
  2. I had a loose castle nut/axle and it had similar reaction. Get it looked at ASAP. If you neglect it, it could cause your front wheel to go bye bye and bounce away BW
  3. Here is the link. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=733030&page=1&pp=25 For anyone in the So Cal area. this is info about the funeral http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=733030&page=5&pp=25 RIP SOOB BRO. BW
  4. are there any front strut bars available to the 1982 EA81s? Is this going to be a DIY job? BW
  5. Hey Glenn, those shots are really nice. Now out of curiosity, why not put a set of pugs w/larger tires on Summer? It would give you the moon buggy look of the rock crawlers BW
  6. Clark.. He's such a BADA@@. Especially in "Without Remorse" when he stuck the guy in the hypoberic chamber to get info out of him. Pure meanness. Hope he treated his Soob better. BW

    RallyCross woes.

hehe that's another story. I have two accidents and one ticket and since I have to have full coverage on the OBS, it costs me $250. per month to insure. So the OBS sits as a temporary storage bin. I will resurrect it this summer when the ticket and the accidents drop off. Hopefully that will lower my insurance to about 150 per month. Oh it's also not registered. So I am stuck with the brat for now. yeah and the OBS would kick butt. especially with the larger anti-sway bar I have in the rear.

    RallyCross woes.

yeah, It's a lot easier to pound a 1982 BRAT that's paid off and already has a clicking pass side axle and other issues. Than a brand new shiny still being paid for WRX Guess I will bring the usual off road spare parts and wail. RallyX is March 26th. That's my birthday present from my wife. (letting me go) I wish she would let me compete in the series but that's still negotiable. Would it be detrimental if I were to install a lift and run swampers? I still want to wheel this car too.
  9. Let's see a Honda/Toyota etc keep the driver alive in this WRX vs. Two tractor trailers. here is that NASIOC thread http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=527529

    RallyCross woes.

Not sure if this goes here but I just got the rules for RallyX for the California Rally Series. So they only have 6 classes Rally 4wd, Rally 2wd, Street Mod 4wd, Street Mod 2wd, Street Stock 4wd, Street Stock 2wd. So if I wanted to compete, my BRAT would fall under Street stock 4wd. Same class as a stock Sti running "street" tires. hmmm.... how much of a chance do I have. About as much as a snowball in hell? So what tips do you have for a rallyX first timer?? Should I keep it in low range? BW
  11. Good find. Here is a pic of the engine setup. I think this may help you with designing a turbo carb set up. http://usmb.net/gallery/album287/Quattro_San_engine?full=1 Sounds like fun. BW
  12. quick question. Got a buddy w/a GL-10 sedan that was side-swipped. There is a wrecking yard with a Loyale Sedan there. The doors and fenders will interchange right? Or should I just tell him that the car is dead and buy the 5spd d/r tranny w/diff lock and the LSD from him BW
  13. welcome. Barracuda is right. They are rare. Not sure how it would sell. Most Brats here were bought for 1000 or less to buy so it would be tough to find buyers here. Replication would be something. Depending on cost, I might be interested in a cover. BW
  14. what is a good price? I found one on the web for 54.00 plus s/h

    gnarly subaru

This came from the same site. Solid axle legacy.
  16. Ok I really need help here. This is the third time I am failing smog. Here is what I have. 82 Brat EA81 engine, Hitachi Carb. Per P/O carb was rebuilt in 2003. I have a receipt for the work. here are the readings 15 MPH. HC= 225, CO= 4.44, NO= 0316 25 MPH, HC= 194, CO= 3.94, NO= 0372 Obviously it's running rich. Is anyone farmiliar with the feed back carb and how it works? Also can anyone tell me how the duty solenoids are suppose to work. You know those little clicking things on the intake manifold Should I be looking into a carb rebuild? Thanks BW
  17. sorta like this guy... here's the site. www.madmaxmovies.com/ making/madmax2/
  18. I am putting on the roof rack b/c I can. The next stop is to mount the jump seats to the rack and then get a steering wheel extender to I can drive up there. Bird's eye view of traffic. Re: Jack nuts, that may be a good idea. I may end up just drilling through the headliner as it already looks like crap. A bolt and washer wouldn't look out of place. Well I guess it would since it would be shiny and everything else is din-gy and brown. BRAtenstien: I have an 82 DL w/aftermarket tops. They flip open in the back.
  19. welcome. Glad you are enjoying your WRX. Nice choice on the Wagon. Love wagons. Sorry I can't help with the barrier. BW
  20. The roll cage/rack is that's the eventual goal. But the rack is made. Beside I am planning to get a tandem bike for the wife and I and the front of the rack could serve as a mounting point for the forks.
  21. Ok so I have this rack that I made. I decide that I am going to mount it on top of the cab of my Brat. Will use the headrest tabs as anchors for the rear of the rack. I have the headrests in so the tabs are support by the headrest frame. Short of drilling some holes into my roof, how should I secure the front of the rack? BW
  22. Audi climbing the ski jump ramp was pretty impressive. I am sure that a Sti would be able to do the same. Maybe even a WRX is you gave it enough run up. I wouldn't be entirely surprised if a lifted t-cased EA w/ studded snow tires could inch it's way up. (ok maybe that's stretching it) I think that Subaru in the US Subaru has gotten itself into a nice niche. The Impreza platform is for 30 something single adults/married w/o kids who want performace and versatility. Legacy platform is for families that want the size of a minivan, but the road manners of a car. the B-9 is their answer to those who want a Minivan/large SUV and want to stay within the Subaru stable. 5 years ago, you were hard pressed to find any performance parts for an Impreza, have one featured in a magazine or even in an add. Now there are Soobs everywhere. WRX performance parts are being offered by every aftermarket company. (Guess it has gone full circle for the GC8 chassis b/c now it's difficult to find parts for the pre-WRX Imprezas) Anywho. We all belong to the board b/c we love our soobs and most likely will buy another one when the time comes to get a new car. In my opinion Subaru needs to go to the other end of the spectrum and offer an AWD econo box. Toyota started the Scion brand to get young people to get buy Toyota. I heard somewhere that Scion is barely making money due to costs in production and their low sale price. BUT THEIR FIRST CAR IS A TOYOTA and most likely they will buy another Toyota. BW
  23. Here is some info on a legacy that has been heavily modded http://offroadsubaru.blogspot.com/ It's similar to size to an OB Follow Zapar's posts about his OBS. This should give you some more comparative info. BW

    rally crash video

Especially that rabbit that fish tails about 1/2 times and then straightens out. That was fun to watch. BW
  25. It all depends on what kind of wheeling you plan to do. The Outback (OB) is a bit taller to begin with. It has more inch or so more ground clearance than the Outback Sport (OBS) I have an OBS so here is my biased point of view. OB is a longer car so will not be a nimble as the OBS. But it has more cargo room and it can tow more b/c of the longer wheelbase. OBS is based on the impreza so most of the parts that people upgrade on the WRX like sway-bars, brakes are a direct swap. Easier to find aftermarket rally stuff also. I think that both will do ok in forest/fire road situations, desert trail driving. I have driving a friend's OB on the road is it handles average for a car. Great for a wagon. I have yet to wheel it so I can't compare it to my OBS off-road. OBS offroad is great. You have to know your limits. No rock crawling. you have to be really aware of your line and how you drive b/c you can really scrape up stuff b/c of the low ground clearance. Sand, gravel and dirt roads it rocks. The IFS soaks up the bumps and the AWD is asking to be hammered. Either one will test your ingenuity as a tinkerer b/c or the lack of aftermarket support. I find that stuff made of the Jeep Cherokees are the closest to these vehicles. BW
