    snorkle idea....

Would go around or under the radiator. I think there is some space around. Will probably have to trim the headlight molding to make it work. will take a look at the BRAT tonight and see what's up. BW

    snorkle idea....

so listen to this.... What if you got a third eye light, removed the light bulb and left the door only. Then you route a tube from the air filter to the grill. Then you make another section of tube that connects to the outside of the door to the route it to the roof line. Driving on road, open door for instant cold air ram intake. Driving off road. open door for snorklelicous fun.... Seems almost worth the loss of the cool cyclops light. hmmmmmmmmm............ BW Oh BTW I have a spare third eye grill for those who just want to snorkle hole w/o cutting your regular grill.
  3. If you need a motor for cheap and you are considering a EJ22T, contact thesubarujunkie http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/member.php?u=4 he has a Legacy Turbo that he is trying to get rid of. BW
  4. Depends on your budget. I once bought a set of Metrinch tools. It was about 200 bucks but it had 1/4 3/8 and 1/2 inch drive socket in shallow and deep sockets. There was also box wrenches from 8mm to 19mm. The beauty of Metrinch is that the tools turn the walls of the nut and not the corners, so they are both metric and standard. TOO BAD IT WAS STOLEN. Marriage is keeping me from really investing in a great tool set. Harbor Freight is good. Tools are decently priced and they have some good sales. It might be best to start w/a starter kit and then get specialized tools as needed. BW
  5. no. Please don't do it. The lifted XT's are strange looking enough. But it's up to you. BW
  6. Welcome to the board. The EJ20T swap is very doable. A lot of 96-02 Impreza owners are doing it. For more info you might want to check out these forums. http://www.rs25.com and http://forums.nasioc.com/ They are more info on the GC8 chassis. Good luck w/your swap. BW

    tubing thickness

I want to make a custom bumper. What is the best size for tubing. Thanks BW
  8. Hi my name is Bosco and I am a welding addict. I just welded my first project today and after the first solid weld, my perceptiopn of the whole world has changed. I thought, " I can now join metal to metal" then my mind raced through all sorts of things I could make. Currently working on making a frame for my BRAT jump seats. That way I can take them off and use them as lawn seats. More stuff to follow.... (custom bumper, roll bar, luggage rack, spare tire carrier....) muhahahahahahaha BW
  9. I think Johnny Law would be more lenient if you were honest and ignorant as opposed to purposely trying to deceive them. When you hang false tags on the car, you are doing it on purpose and you have less to stand on when trying to fight the charge. Besides, most of the registration tickets are fix-it tickets anyways. (atleast here in Cali)
  10. I didn't have the heads removed when I adjusted my valves. I was just doing a valve cover re-seal. (assuming that you have the timing gears set up right) I had the cap off of the disty. I turned flywheel to TDC and looked at the rotor to make sure that it was lined up to the #1 position. The rest I did according to the Chilton manual. Hope that helps.
  11. Hehehehe 1000, how many old soobs can you buy with that? I figure two or so with lots of other spare parts. Gotta love the stealer ship..
  12. EA81 cars are super rare here. There are a bunch of Loyales and EA82's but most of them are driven by people who look at my funny when I wave at them. I have seen two other BRAT on the road. One of that I think was a turbo. I guess if I really wanted to see old Soobs, I can go to Brat1709's place. He's got three BRATs, a 360 sedan and a SVX.
  13. same thing happened to me once. Left the car idleing too long at high rev and though I fried the cat. It should be ok. Just remember to tap gas pedal after it initially warms up. BW
  14. yeah I know thus the winky winky eyes. *mutters darn computer for not being able to show sarcasm*
  15. Well just got word. Motor is gone Thanks for all of the input Will keep it in mind for future swap Mudrat... what's the guy's name that can provide adapters? BW
  16. Thanks for the quick response: I have to pass emissions. I do not have a tach so how can I determine the RPM w/o one?
  17. He has a Rubicon and so does my sister. My little bro was driving the CJ. Ok not "FLOATED" considering it leaks like a crazy. It would have crossed it w/o breaking through. (But "FLOATED" sounds so much cooler.) IIRC curb weight on BRAT is 2500 ish pounds (that's what my registration says)Curb weight on a Wrangler is 3229. Found this nifty chart on-line about how much weight ice can hold. http://www.mass.gov/dfwele/dfw/dfwice.htm My bro said that ice was about 6 inches thick. That's within the BRAT's weight now all I have to do is get the BRAT over to VA so we can wheel together.
  18. So here is a pic of my brother's Jeep getting swallowed up by a mud pit when the ice broke through If my BRAT did that, I would have water half way up my hood. Of course there is probably a good change that I have floated on top of the ice b/c the BRAT is so light. MUST KEEP SAVING MONEY TO BUILD BIGGER..... BW
  19. I have a 82 BRAT, EA81 w/a Hitachi Feedback Carb Someone messed with the idle mixture setting. Does anyone know what it is suppose to be? Thanks BW
  20. nice drawing. You should make the seating like a mcclaren F1. Driver in the middle, passengers to the left and right.
  21. I have seen FAN Boats before. There was one in "WATER BOY" The pontoon boat sounds a little scary in rough water. I guess it depends on how high you plan to set the platform. How about a hovercraft?
  22. To get the thread back on track. 1998 Outback Sport,(OBS) is basically the same as a regular impreza with more ground clearance. Most of the parts for the Imprezas and the Impreza RS from model year 1997 to 2001 should fit. I have a 2000 OBS and 20mm rear sway bars from an RS fit, so did my Front strut bar. As long it is for the GC8 chassis is should be ok. The car from the drivers area to the front are pretty much identical. The wagon portion is what makes it difference. So rear strut bars will not work, they have to be wagon specific. A good upgrade for the OBS is to swap the rear drums for RS disks and change the front 1 pot brakes for a set of RS 2 pot brakes. Certain parts from 2002-up WRX's will also swap in. Wheels, struts, engine, tranny, rear differential. Obviously WRX body parts will not work b/c of the different body style. I have cat back exhaust, 20 mm sway bar, front strut bar, 2002 WRX wheels and it handles great on and off road. Welcome to the board. BW ps. 400 posts...
  23. coolness. April 15th-17th. I showed the wife pics of Arches National park. I think she's interested in going there.
  24. A subaphibian would probably be really slow in water. Depending on how the hull was done it would also be very limited in where you could drive it. Now if you could get enough thrust to make it a hydrofoil, then that would be pretty sweet. What would also be cool is if you could make a soob hovercraft. I am talking take a soob, remove the wheels and put a hovercraft skirt. THat would be cool.
  25. I know someone who's from El Salvador. He just came back from there and he said he saw a BRAT there. Not sure if they ever sent the d/r there but I can ask.
