I also found that 7/16th is an odd size. Home Despot doesn't have then and the ones at the autoparts stores are often too short. Solved it by buying one that was 3 inches long and hacking it down.

This is an EA81 fwd wagon stuck in 4th. Reverse seems to work ok, but it will not go out of 4th. Clutch seems fine as RPMS will reduce when the clutch pedal is released. I need to move it about 30 miles, mostly freeway to it's final resting spot. Any tips. One friend suggested that I use to starter to get it moving and then modulate the clutch. I also thought about using my BRAT to push it until it got up to speed. BW

I just saw this vonage commercial with a guy who is chopping a tree. It looks like there is a EA81 wagon that gets smashed by the tree. Anyone else see it? BW

Like Sweet said, go get yourself a stock intake setup. Cone filters are good for on road power and driving, but offroading through water and mud this one is a sure way to stall your car. Looks like fun. To bad it doesn't rain here that often BW

Who needs to park. Just drive down one for the freeways. Way too may freeway shooting recently. Had to resort to looking into my mirrors everytime someone passes me on the left to see if their window is down and what they are doing.

Depending on what XT you are looking at they can vary from FWD, part time 4WD to full time 4WD. Technology it like apples and oranges. If you stiffen the ride out and do some extensive suspension mods you can get comparable handling. Horsepower is going to be a big challenge. Also you have to do most of the work and tuning yourself. WJM made an RX that was able to produce amazing HP and great handling. Read up on some of his threads. To get Sti handling out of an XT is a tall order, it by no means impossible, you would be going into territory that is seldon treaded. Stick around and see what you can learn. Good luck on your plans. BW

First question is what do you plan to do with it? Like do you want to drive on the street mostly, do you want to off-road. etc. Before we get into adapter plates is do you want to keep the dual range tranny. If not, then you don't have to worry about the adapter. You can use the whole driveline from the donor car. That way you have basically get an Legacy/Impreza w/a 80s body. There really is no formal printed material about doing this swap, there are plenty of people on the board who have done it. Just spend some time in the Retrofitting forum and see who has completed the swap. Good luck and congrats on your great find. BW

So BRAT continues to fail smog. CO levels are through the roof. New O2 sensor and cat were installed. Car is tuned and idles beautifully. Revving the engine w/o load gets low CO levels. Running the car on the dyno (underload) makes high CO levels. One thing that makes me think it's the carb is b/c even with the fuel mixture screw turned in all the way, it's running rich. That's not normal right? Someone mentioned that the EGR system might be clogged. Anyone have any insight on getting to it? Will seafoam clean that up? Anyone have problems that I am having? Thanks for the help

I second the addictiveness part of fabbing. Once you learn how to weld, it opens a whole world of possibilities. Get yourself a cheapo flux core welder and start making things. I find any excuse to weld. I made bike hangers from my garage rafters, I made some candle holders and such. Once you get better, you can start tackling structural components. If you get a welder, the other tool that is essential is a grinder. Spend the extra money and get one that can handle a 6 inch wheel. 4 inch and 6 inch cutting wheels are roughly the same price. the 6 inch disc will last longer. Have fun. BW

A bumper is a bumper is a bumper is a bumper. Come on guys, So far Allied has brought to the subaru world a lift kit, 4X140 WHEELS.....and now they are making bumpers. Stop criticizing everything they put out. Some of the heat that others got was b/c they were copying other peoples designs and selling them. If they put out a Legacy/Imp bumper that looks like the Mudrat designs then we can get into who made it first and let the bashing begin. But IIRK Qman is not in the business of fabricating. Keep up the good work and keep all of the new goodies coming BW

I just called Jerrod Jones feature editor of 4 wheel & Off Road Mag. told him about WCSS and all of the things that we soob offroaders are doing. He seemed interested. He said that this summer they will be working on the Ultimate Adventure Challenge but the will see what they can do about going out there. I gave them a link to the WCSS site and to USMB If they can't do something I will get in contact w/other publications. National exposure for WCSS? more pressure to get those rigs nice a purdy.. BW

If you remove the covers you will have air flow into the engine compartment. There is really nothing for the airflow to hit like an intercooler or stock intake. If you remove the cover for the passenger side and get a intake, you can get cool air to the engine from there. Other people have hacked the back of their intake airbox and used the air from the hood scoop to feed the engine. Hope that helps BW

Got the book this weekend. Interesting read so far. Haven't yet confirmed the Soob they are driving in. Aside from the excerpt in the beginning, they only mention driving down these trails in search of a Prairie Dog Town. -

The grill looks like the 1st Gen grills. The B9 Tribeca is admittedly very non-Subaru. The name is the first thing. It's pretty odd. Do we can it a B9 or Tribeca? Here are the pluses 1) Bigger platform than the Legacy. 2) Keeps the AWD heritage 3) Drivetrain uses reliable proven designs 4) Introduce Subaru to a whole new market. 5) New market may end up buying other soobs 6) Priced and shaped similar to a Murano. (wife likes Murano) Minuses 1) Front grill. On an interesting note, just spoke a dealer about the B9 and how it looks. Several people are commenting on the front grill being butt ugly. He said that the 2002 WRX w/the bug eyes caused sales to drop in Japan and other established WRX markets. Here in America, they sold like crazy b/c it was a WRX. Thus the headlight change in the new models. He thinks that the grill will only last a few years and then it will go to something more subtle. That is good b/c I don't plan to buy a new car for a few years. BW
