  1. more on this area. Well she officially has Suba-lust. We say that SVX on Craigslist and she asked to go see it. I she even mentioned buying it. Granted we have 3 cars as is and one garage. So we would have to play musical chairs with the cars on street sweeping day. And it would be a PITA to move 4 cars cross county to Charlotte. Well.. Funny how the SUBARU NUT is the one coming up w/reason NOT to buy a Subaru
  2. Well just got back from my trip to Baja. I counted about 15 or so EA-82's. mostly wagon. There was one really smoky EA-82 hatch back. There are about 10 or so EA-81's. No Brats although they had this one car made by Chevy that looked like a BRAT. Baja is great!!! Southwest Soob meet in BAJA...
  3. Ok I just got back from my Baja trip. I will do a write up and post it in the new gen section, but here is the basic proposal for a SW meet in or around October. San Quintin (pronounced Kintin) is a small city about ¼ of the way down the Baja Peninsula its about 300 miles from the US San Diego Border. There are pristine beaches w/vehicle access, camping grounds, fishing, kayaking and other activities are available within the three bays. Accommodations for the rugged are campgrounds or RV parks for around $5.00 per person. For those who would rather stay in a hotel, there are places that range from $40-$84 dollars a night. The one I stayed at it is La Pinta hotel at $84.00 a night, but the room overlooked the beach. Activities: The area has three interlocking bays. There are a lot of fish in the area, you can rent a boat and go deep sea fishing, you can kayak, you can go clamming on the beach for some huge clams. Of course you can also go “Bajaing” on the beach and some of the local roads. Heck going to anywhere requires that you drive down some rutted washboard dirt roads. I realize that this a for those in Arizona and Nevada face a pretty long drive just to get to San Diego, but my trip was incredible and it would be a great tradition to start w/out South West soobs.
  4. "You can do it...." in that cajun voice from waterboy do a search and I am sure there are some good write ups about it. BW
  5. give me your e-mail and I can send you info on the hoses tonight. it might help if you told us if it's carbed, spfi or Mpfi. boswan2001@yahoo.com. Re teh diff hanger, where did they go? sounds like you have sort of a basket case there. Estimate about two solid days of wrenching to get it back in order Good luck BW
  6. I am actually shooting for October for the Subaru outing..
  7. CV job is one of those things that you are going to have get use to. My first one took me 2 hours b/c I didn't know what i was doing. Second one took me 40 mins, axle removal, complete rebuild and reinstall. whatever you decide learning to do one will save you a bunch of $$ in the future. BW
  8. Ok Southwest people….. Let’s do a Baja Adventure…. I will be going with my wife and another couple to San Quintin this weekend and I can do some scouting. So far it’s 30 bucks for full coverage insurance for the weekend. We are staying at the La Pinta Villa hotel http://www.lapintahotels.com/ in San Quintin. It’s 84 bucks a night for double occupancy but there is free camping at the beach above and below San Quintin. San Quitin is located 184 miles from TJ border. A tourist visa is free if you are staying less than 7 days. I am not sure of activities but I could probably find stuff at the hotel or maybe someone in San Diego can go scouting afterwards. The Subaru Baja Adventure would probably involve beach camping so the cost would go down significantly. I was thinking of maybe October so that the weather is not too hot but it’s right before tourist season. What say you??? BW

    SVX help

tranny. I haven't looked at it yet but if it's like and EA82 then there should be tranny mounts too. BW
  10. I need to replace the motor and the crossmember mounts on my SVX. Anyone know if i can retro STi or Impreza mounts instead? thanks BW
  11. LA. Some problem as you. No old soob enthusiast. Most of the people who drive EA's are hispanic and look at me all weird when I give them a honk or a wave. It would be possible to do a southwest meet somewhere in the middle of LA, San Diego, Vegas and AZ. But the only central place would be the Mojave Desert. Maybe Laughlin. BW
  12. GREAT WRITE up and pics. One thing... ya might want to split the page into several parts that way it's easier to view and to upload. My trip to Mexico will be a lot more tame as I will be sticking to asphalt and taking my wife and some friends. Thanks for sharing. BW
  13. Here is what I found from a Datsun site http://www.ratdat.com/technical/R200_swap/R200_swap.html
  14. hmm sites seems to have exceed the month quota can anyone host it for him? i am planning a baja trip soon. Would like to get some info on what you experienced. please pm me. Thanks BW
  15. All engines will need a computer. The carbed one dont necessarily need one to "run" It may not be optimal w/o one. The fuel injected one will need a computer and a host of other sensors. What type of engine is it? EA81 or EA82. BW
  16. I'm in Los Angeles, so I guess that's fairly close to you...
  17. Here is the set up. EA81 engine, 4 inch lift, EA82 crossmember, I have a crossmember from a 87 GL-10 w/PS. I also remember reading that doing a 5 lug swap a roo w/stock EA81 ball joint arms was more difficult than w/ EA82 parts. I theorize that if the EA82 crossmember is used, then you can use the EA82 recipe for a 5 lug swap. I still have to clear out my garage and then order those toasty casted 4 inch strut blocks from SJR.... So final product is going to be BRAT w/4 inch lift. EA82 Power steering, 5 lug swap and a twin stick set up. Hope to start w/everything by next weekend. BW
  18. EA81 has no timing belt, it's a tab bit lower in stock HP. It should be a direct swap, but you may need to look into the carb fuel computer. I am not sure if the EA81 one will talk to your Carter-weber carb. If you are going to the trouble of swaping in wiring and such, you might as well look into doing an EJ swap. But a lot depends on budget time and space. EA82 swap is most definately the easiest on the engine swaps to do. BW
  19. right... Well I have an EA81 crossmember and an EA82 crossmember sitting in my garage. Time to get a measuring. Will have some answers by this weekend. BW
  20. Ok here is something to kick around. If you are lifting an EA81 car, can you make the lift blocks to retrofit an EA82 engine crossmember in place. This would allow for EA82 powersteering, and make it easier to do the 5 lug swap. I am assuming that I would then need EA82 axles. Any thoughts? BW
  21. I can open the BRAT with the keys from my OBS and the SVX. Hmmmm... time to get a club... I am thinking maybe a mace or a morning star if I catch them.
  22. Had to post again to change me post count.... ..
  23. Ohh... THAT'S incredible..... Hmm......
  24. http://cache.jalopnik.com/cars/impreza_brat.jpg not sure of the details... but with about a ton of bondo and paint it probably wont look too bad. bw
  25. Wow did you put it into words that hit home. I am trying to get my friend into a 1996-2001 impreza. Yep subalust ... BW
