  1. I did this with an EA81 so I am not sure if it will apply for an EA82. I was able to take out the wrist pins on the rear two pistons. I used a slide hammer and was able to get it out. The front I was not able to remove the plug to access the wrist pins. I was able to get the block split partially and then unbolt the front two rods. BW
  2. nice. Give me an PM or something next time you go. I also know of some good trails in Orange County. BW
  3. Although if you are going to put someone in the back, atleast have the forethought of getting a roll bar that is higher then their heads. MY 82 BRAT has the rear seats and the belts but when I sit in them, my head becomes the highest point on the cab. That would explain the whole getting paralyzed in a low speed roll over accident. If nothing else you could be sued for negligence. I have been the only person so far to sit in the back while the vehicle is in motion. BW
  4. HH is leaking like a sieve and while I have the engine removed, I saw that the paint all along the Driver side frame is all gone. BW
  5. I am removing my hillholder. Does anyone have a diagram that states which lines go to what brakes or has someone else done this and can guide me along in getting the lines hooked up again. BW
  6. right on. So when I see this on the next high pursuit chase in CA we'll know it's you:grin: BW
  7. I am still good to go. I sent pm's to everyone who has expressed interest and MT biker was the only one to respond. Will send out another round. BTW merry Christmas. BW
  8. I took my stock BRAT to Pismo Beach dunes once. Not a star performer b/c of the low HP and I was running a single range tranny at that time, but it did get the job done. Air down, keep momentum up and drive smart. Off roading a stock soob takes brains and finesce in places where a truck or jeep can just mash the skinny pedal. BW
  9. when you installed the clutch did you make sure that the fork was set onto it's pivot. There is a round nub that the fork is suppose to rest on. If it's not properly on the pivot point, it may not have enough leverage to operate the PP. BW
  10. I am trying to decide how to make the strut tower lift blocks for my BRAT. I am putting on XT6 hubs so I am going to use an old set of OBS struts. After re-drilling the strut towers to accomodate the OBS strut, I connected the top hole of my hub to the bottom hole of the strut.. The angle of the a-arm is pretty much level so I will need to make some sort of strut extender. Overall I am putting in a 5 inch lift. The strut for the OBS is about an inch longer than the EA81 strut. I am not sure how much stiffer it is. Should I wait for the engine and tranny to be put in before I make the strut block or should I make one according to the angle that I want the a-arm to be at unloaded? Thanks BW
  11. did you take pictures at the scene of the accident? This is where cell phone cameras come in handy. pour over the policy with your agent, if you have one. determine if it is required to have an "energy absorbing bumper" If they say that your car has to comply with all motor vehicle laws of your state, tell them that the cop didn't cite you for the bumper. Anyways I think that it would be to your benefit to have the adjuster take a look at the car b/c sounds like this lady is trying to work them and if you can't give them evidence to the contrary then they will have to pay. Good luck. BW

    Dual park brakes

Yeah all you need to work it is another set of arms...:-p
  14. nice. enjoy the fact that you will not have to stop for speed bumps or dips:grin:
  15. Came up with a song a while ago about this situation... To the tune of "let it snow" The weather outside is frightful, but my subaru's delightful So as long as all wheels do go.. let it snow let it snow let it snow It doesn't show signs of stopping, and my cylinders are hopping The heater it's hot air blows Let it snow let is snow let is snow When other cars come in sight.. stuck... w/their egos all torn... (especially SUVs.) I'll laugh when I see their plight and wave as I lean on the horn In the garage my tires are drying and I start to go french frying Ready to venture and go Let it snow, let is snow, let is snow
  16. No, I still needed the adapter plate. The EJ18 has four bolts that mate the tranny. When I did a clutch job on my EJ22 there were about 6 bolts. So the bottom two bolts were similar but the top bolts were different. I will take a picture of the adapter plate. BW
  17. Not completely sure about this but I thought all EJ engines were DIS. So there is no cap and rotor and no need for the accel coil. exhaust and intake would help in opening up some power. Borla makes a good set for headers for the EJ22. In terms of brakes and stuff, WRX stuff is a direct bolt on. IF you have single pot fronts, RS brakes are an upgrade. Have fun. BW
  18. Ok here is what I have in mind. 5 inch lift on BRAT, EJ18 swap 5 lug swap w/old OBS front struts. OBS struts is about an inch taller than the fully extended BRAT strut. Struts for the OBS will sit taller than the BRATs so I am not making lift blocks for the struts at this time. When it is all put together, how do I know if I need to make a strut extender?
  19. finished cutting the lift blocks. I made a really nice set up for the radius arm rod and tied it all together. Problem is that I used a EA82 as a template and they are different mounts. BRAT is in the garage and I dropped the tranny and motor. now I have to figure out how to get this massive piece of metal moved out of the way. Guess I should have split the tranny from the engine first. :-\ other than that it's going well. The OBS struts are about an inch taller than the BRAT struts fully extended. I have to use the OBS top hat b/c it swivels and the ones on the BRAT don't. The center of the top hat fits nicely onto the hole. Mounting bolts will obviously have to be re-drilled. The strut mounting tab on the XT-6 hubs are a tad too thick for the OBS strut. Will have to take a grinder to the hubs to get then down to size. I need some advice about using the OBS struts and I will post this in another thread. Will also post pics later. BW
  20. :cool:Ahh, you have an Outback. BTW I got Forester XT struts which are a tab bit taller. BW
  21. if you are gonna replace your struts, try sourcing a set of forester struts/springs from Nasioc or I-club. Some Forester owners lower their rides w/STI/WRX stuff and usually have their old struts lying around. Got a set for Forester XT struts w/5k miles on them for $250.00. BW
  22. I abandoned using the 3 X 1 inch tubing that I bought. Went to the metal yard and scored some 5 X 2- 3/8 thick. Much easier to work with and it was only $42 for all of the steel. I have to get it all cut up and then try to get some bolts that will work. I may end up tapping to to standard pitches b/c the longer bolts are easier to find. once I finish the lift blocks I will be putting the BRAT into the garage for engine swap.
  23. Been talking to a CARB ref and this shop called Garage Tuning, a shop specializing in EJ20 swaps into pre-02 Imprezas. I can get the car inspected and registered as a BRAT w/a EJ18 AWD tranny. Since the engine is OBD1, there are a lot less things to worry about in terms of the computer and the blasted Check Engine light. Most of the things that I need can be sourced from Garage Tuning. I think the key is to make it look as stock as possible. BW
  24. here are the pics First one is the engine tranny together. The second one is the flywheel w/the input shaft snug against the pilot bearing. BW
  25. Nice. It might be easier to let the BRAT harness power the starters lights and all of the other stuff and have the XT-6 harness power the engine. That is the route I am going with my EJ BRAT. have fun. BW
