  1. Went to Pismo w/a buddy of mine this weekend. Took the OBS on a dune run. Enjoy… http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=8600&sort=1&cat=500&page=1
  2. Kurt I live in Los Angeles.... Cold is really relative....
  3. Well if finally happened. My OBS has accepted my BRAT as part of the family. The key to my OBS will now work on the BRAT. The door take a little bit of wiggling, but the ignition works fine. Heck my ignition tumblers are so worn out, I can start the car w/my house key. Well this deserves a
  4. If you keep it in 2wd while on the street, you should be ok. So anyone know the spline count of the audi 3.89 rear diff and the diameter of the stub axle? How about the drive shaft input flange? This could be the start of a new revolution.
  5. you can get the Kumho r700 from tirerack in a 13 inch. BW

I was looking at the lift kit for the wagon It seems like the engine and rear diff are lowered on blocks but the tranny isnt. these two pictures are ones that show the tranny crossmember. How does he get the engine and tranny to bolt together? Looks like he made custom struts for the front. I wonder how long his axles hold up w/all that flex. BW
  7. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=19604&highlight=wheels here is an old thread about 6 X 140mm rims out there. Hope that helps. BW
  8. just buy a new switch from radio shack and you can have it on whenever you want. With high beams, low beams or by itself Makes for some really confused people. BW
  9. If you look around you may be able to find places that will do it for cheap. I found a place that will do a clutch job for 199.99 includes Pressure plate, clutch, t/o and pilot bearing. Resurface flywheel is extra. If you really want to do it yourself, I found a EA81 clutchs from 89.00 to 112.00. If you have a good sized floor jack, it is easier to drop the tranny. You can get to the rear engine seal w/the tranny out. Good luck. Give me an e-mail if you need help. BW

Would be willing to do some support team work. Baja would be just a couple hour drive for me. Have BRAT will travel.... well if I can get it to run reliably... Any chance that sponsorship money can go into a support vehicle.. I was thinking lift kit and maybe and EJ swap BW
  11. WOW.... That's one intense Justy. Even a Ej22 would be a huge improvement over the stock mechanic.. I mean engine. So is this that thing AWD? I guess it would have to be since he showed the front and rear axle pic.
  12. I had a friend of mine freak out and tell me that RS is trademarked by the Big Three American companies and that no one is suppose to use it. Wait till I tell him there is also an 80's RS.
  13. might want to check this thread out... http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=41216&highlight=trailer
  14. nice score. Get that puppy cleaned up and on the road. Gimmie a call if you need parts. Got a bunch of EA81 parts sitting in my garage. bW
  15. I think that there is a huge difference between old gen soob owners and the rest of the automotive world. We believe that the best cars ever made were from 1970's to the early 90's. They had a simple flat four engine could be cobble together w/duct tape and an abundant supply of JB Weld. These car can usually be picked up for the price of a clutch job. And to our good fortune, most people considered them disposable econo boxes. Plenty of people here have picked up a EA82 for free or less then 500 bucks b/c the timing belt broken and people assumed that the motor was trashed. On the road, the tuning is done by pioneers that believe in the engine and what is can put out. They spend time massaging and wrenching to get themost HP out of these little 1.8 motors. Subaru tuning became more main stream w/the WRX. Most people who bought them are grown-up honda tuners who wanted something fast from the factory. Few have the ingenuity to do anything w/o opening their wallet and paying a wad of cash for it. For them doing a engine swap is something that they can't even begin to understand. Match a different tranny to your motor. Whoa there... that's to hard.... There's a reason most of us have to make our own intakes by cutting the bottoms of the stock system. There is no money to be made so no company will invest the time to do it. Off road we believe that our soobs can do anything that a high dollar 4X4 can do and more. Froogle search on Jeep 4 inch lift http://froogle.google.com/froogle?q=jeep%204%20inch%20lift&hl=en&hs=bPh&lr=&safe=active&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&sa=N&tab=wf The prices vary from $800 to $2000. Mudrat's dual range tranny for less than a $1000 is a steal compared to other 4x4 systems. PK or allied lift kits are under 500. Once again there is no main stream incentive to build stuff for these cars. A decently built off-road rig will have parts that far out weight the value of the vehicle. So the next time someone from the new soob boards tells you that working on an older soob is a waste of time, just shake your head and know that you spent a fraction of what they spent and are having fun doing it. bW
  16. problem resolved. Thanks to Richie Rich, Flowmaster, Will Smith and Sweet for help on this. It turned out to be two seperate problems. 1) Front driver CV joint was broken. Thus in 2wd power went to the broken axle and it just spun. Haven't fixed this yet, but will need to do an axle replacement. 2) 4wd linkage arm was bent. It prevented the car from completely shifting into 4wd. fixed by loosening the pivot point. tapping the selector level all the way forward and then adjusting the pivot to the right distance. I am working on a short throw shifter. I extended the level below the pivot by 1/2 an inch or so. Will have to adjust the arm to keep the same shifting angles but it should work. will take pics. BW
  17. What Northwet said might be something you want to look into. This is an EA81 so it may not apply, but I had a leak in the hose that went from the water pump to the metal piping under the manifold. I would be ok when the engine was running, but when it stopped it would leak. I found out where it was when one day I turned off my car and when I came back a couple of mins later, it was peeing green fluid. Good luck w/your leak..
  18. check your exhaust. May have damaged that.
  19. Thanks for the info. I have a friend building a rally car and she's got a legacy tranny. Looking for the matching 3.90 rear diff. So if I understand it correctly.... I can take a 3.70 LSD, do the 3.90 swap to it. Use early legacy axles and it will bolt up to the Impreza L rear wheels and the Legacy tranny.
  20. when you say rattle on me what do you mean? Rattle coming from the tranny or the engine? Is it the driver side or the passenger side. cracked flywheel sounds really unlikely. Those things are huge and very thick. You would get a lot of engine/tranny shudder and vibration is that's what happened. If it's only a dirt packed road, I doubt anything major happened. One time I was driving my OBS and I did this huge e-brake slide and got going sideways. I didn't counter steer so my front wheel was also going sideways and hit some ruts. bent the steel rim doing that. That may be the extent of your damage. RE the hatch, did this happen after your dirt road trip or was it already happening before? Good luck BW
  21. I know that the spline counts from an EA82T are the same as early Legacys. Will an EA82 3.90 rear diff work for in a EJ car? BW
  22. bipity bumpity... Well... before I yank the tranny off to see what's up.... Two suggestions I have so far is clutch cable too tight and axle was pulled apart when I jacked the tranny to high. I am not sure it's the axles being pulled apart since I don't get any grinding or unusual noise when it's in 2wd and reving. I will undo the clutch cable and see if I can get it to move. If not then I am going to have to take the tranny down and have a look see. Any ideas would be appreciated. BW
  23. I installed an EA81 engine from a 1984 fwd wagon into my 82 BRAT Used the BRAT flywheel and clutch. When I put the BRAt into gear, it doesn't move when I gas it. It merely revs. He speedometer goes up so I guess there is power going to the tranny, but not the wheels. When I yank the 4WD level, it will grind pretty badly. 4wlo is even worse. Tried to adjust the 4wd linkage, nothing, Someone mentioned that the EA81 4wd bellhousing is different from the 2wd bellhousing. Also someone mentioned that the throwout bearing may not be lined up correctly. NEED HELP. Please call me if you have any ideas (310)292-5258 Thanks BW
  24. Here's a good company that I found that supplies foam boards. Projects like the Doran and Tri-magnum use fiberglassed foam for their bodies http://www.fiberglasssupply.com BW
