Any EA63"S" engines in the USA?
s'ko replied to moosens's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
some guy in Glendale, CA posted this in Sept 2004 http://bizbb.com/ROBBSOVERSTOCKCLOSEOUTS/offer/2/ -
So you are building a Doran. That's cool. I have visited the site for the Tri-magnum often. Keep us posted on your build.

That's pretty ghetto rigged. Dude, give me the length and I'll weld you up one. I have a day off next monday. Will be planning a bunch of errands. Just pay for the shipping. BW

I doubt JBWeld would hold. Give the pieces and specs to a muffler shop and have them do it. I doubt it would cost you more than 10 bucks. BW

s'ko replied to s'ko's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...

hey, there is a book that someone wrote about his journey along the Lewis and Clark trail. Vehicle of choice: A Subaru Hatchback. Here is an excerpt from the book http://www.amazon.com/gp/reader/1570612463/ref=sib_rdr_ex/002-2960630-7180858?%5Fencoding=UTF8&p=S00B#reader-page third page describes the Soob. Sounds like they had the TOD along their journey. Looks I will be getting this book for some reading. Interested in how the soob handled. BW

Suggestions on redoing exhaust headers
s'ko replied to s'ko's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
well cut into the header with the hot pipe outlet. Found a crack that goes atleast 1/2 around the pipe behind shield. I will have to go to the yard and get another pipe to weld on. Yeah!!! another excuse to go to the junk yard -
Tell me about gaskets, bolts, oil leaks?
s'ko replied to Hank Roberts's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Welcome to the board. Let me tell you that you are "Welcome to the leaking soob club." Let me tell you of the common places for oil to leak are 1) front main seal 2) oil pump o-rings and seals 3) Oil pan 4) Valve Covers 5) Rear main seal. Good luck. BW -
Suggestions on redoing exhaust headers
s'ko replied to s'ko's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Nice. I have to have to have the cat on and the hot air pipe. Those are part of the emission stuff so they must be on there. Well looks like I was on the right track. I guess I went wrong when I put pressure on the pipes w/a floor jack. They may have made the exhaust not fit right. Back to the drawing board. Thanks for all of the input. BW -
Just out of curiosity. What are peoples thoughts on starting a non-profit organization for the preservation of old subarus. If we can get non-profit status, donations that are made can be tax deductable. We could maybe even get SOA to pitch in and maybe local subaru dealers. I think that a trusted member of the board could head it and ownership of vehicles would belong to the non-profit org. Would probably need someone with land for storage and such. We could even have a parts depository where members can send their spare parts. Heck w/aggressive solicitation of funds/donations it could even become a full time job. Any takers? I would be willing to make a donation to such an organization. BW

man i had to tow my wagon twice in 2 days!
s'ko replied to dragonwingsubaru's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Ok that sounds really funny in the same paragraph. You mean your Subaru GF right.... That's why you have two soobs. One soob to tow the other one when it's down. Leave no soob behind. My BRAT has towed my OBS once. Ok... OBS helped a bit b/c the engine was running and I used the brakes on the OBS to slow both cars down. bw -

Here is some info I got from mergetel.com. Hello Bosco, You could use a model 100 mixer (rated for 106 hp) or a model 125 mixer (rated for 126 hp). Either mixer could be used for dual fuel or straight conversions. The difference would be that you would require either a new throttle body or and adapter to mount the mixer to the old carb’s throttle body or you would require an adapter to mount the mixer over the gasoline carburetor for dual fuel. As you are in Los Angeles and the Impco factory is also in Los Angeles, I would probably be uncompetitive with local shops since the parts wouldn’t have to be shipped to Canada and back again. If you can’t find a local installer, I can try to help you but I am not familiar with Subarus and I don’t know off-hand which adapters are required for your engine. Is there any chance that there are similar vehicles already converted to propane in the local junk yards? If there were, that would be your cheapest option by far. Let me know how you make out. Frank I am asking him for a fuel flow diagram and the components that the that the fuel travels through. Here is a forum that he started for Alternative fuel vehicles. http://www.mergetel.com/~fraso/phpBB2/index.php BW

can anyone tell me the threading and other info for the exhaust header studs? Thanks BW
-
Man I love that car..... It will be mine one day.... BW
-
Thanks to all who helped me with the exhaust stud size. It's a metric bolt 10 with 1.25 pitch. Well I bolted everything up again and it still leaks at the heads. There is also some exhaust coming from the stove pipe drain hole. Anyways. Originally my exhaust wasn't fitting snug so I cut the driver side pipe and tried to re-weld it. Obviously that didn't work b/c the leak is still there. Anyone here work on exhausts or have done it before? What are some tips on getting it nice and snug? thanks BW

Kahlifohniahhh DMV has the BRAT registered as an SUV

I know that LPGSuperchargedbrumby is running propane. So I did some research and found this write up. http://www.motherearthnews.com/library/1972_May_June/Convert_Your_Car_To_Propane Dual Fuel Gas/Propane engine. Is this something that is workable? It sounds too easy for a mere 100 bucks or so. BW

hey the Water car http://mitglied.lycos.de/amphicar/englisch/carlist5.html has a Turboed EJ25 300 hp.
-
From what it sounds like you may have bent something. That would explain why it's only hard to turn at certain parts. Jack up the car and put it on jackstands. Then get underneath and have a friend turn the steering wheel left and right. Look at the steering mechanism to see if there is anything messed up. Good luck with that. BW
