  1. Shout out from So Cali..... What about a meet at Pismo Beach/Oceana Dunes ORV???? It's about 4 hours from the Bay Area and about 3.5 hours from Los Angeles? Renaissanceman lives in the area. It hink there are a couple of other members in between? Camping on the beach and some wheeling at the dunes? Will bring bbq and my wife's delicious ribs... (ohh wait I have to ask her first) BW
  2. just make sure that are not those cheap butter tools...... Busted two rachets putting my engine in.... I retract the seat covers idea and go with tools for 59.95.. bW
  3. I think you will need the 2.5l computer. Tranny for the 2.2l would match the 2.5 w/no problem. You might want to check nasioc for more info on this swap. BW
  4. How about Neoprene seat covers. 59.95. Since you off road, it will keep your seats from getting messed up. BW
  5. Zoombaru... Instead of degreased go to the 99cent store and pick up a couple of cans of oven cleaner. It works just as well as degreaser. Go to a coin-op self-wash place and spray the engine down w/the stuff. Then wait about a min and hose it off. Takes filthy grease and gunk right off. Congrats on getting your ride back together. Seeing as I was 8 hours away and I have an EA81... I wasn't going to be much help. BW
  6. Wow, that's interesting...people have way too much time on their hands I am referring to the paper models that use to be on this site. The homepage of USMB has a link to subaru Fun stuff http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/funstuff.html The link for the paper models does not take you to the paper models. Where are they?? BW
  7. look at where drips. That may be a good sign as to where it is leaking. Most likely it's the hillholder. Good luck BW
  8. I am looking for those paper models of the 80's cars.... The link from the home page doesn't take me to them... Anyone?? bueller, bueller??? BW
  9. Is the tranny fwd or 4WD? Easiest way to tell is how many levers do you have in the center console. Tranny should be fine. Only option in terms of larger tires are either Peugot (pug) rims or drilled out 6 lugs. I had 15 inch pugs w/205/55/15 tires and it handled great. I had to bash the inner fender to get them to clear when I was turning. I would also rub a bit when I would hit bumps. Probably not the best way to go if you rally cross, since there will be a lot of bumps. In regards to your muffler and VA PD giving you a hard time, get a separate tail pipe for rally cross. One thing to remember is that will not get huge gains w/a large diameter tail pipe. Something to do with the scavengering effect of the exhaust... look up EA81 performance in the archives. There use to be a page about EA81 performance in this site but I can't find it. Have fun BW
  10. What part of Fairfax are you from? I grew up in Fairfax, Graduated class of 1991. Anywho.... One thing that might help your car perform better is tighter handling. I think whiteline sells better sway bars for the EA81's. Do a search in the marketplace. I am trying to fab up a front strut bar for my BRAT. Will share with you the results, maybe make a duplicate and take it back to VA with me. One questions, are the GLF's 4WD. If so are they dual range? If not, you might get away w/putting in a dual range EA81 tranny. from the top they look the same, Then you can start out in 4wd 1 lo and get a lot more torque. Also in line w/the 4WD parts, you can get the front strut assembly for the 4WD brats and wagons, there is a height adjuster to raise the front of the car and get more ride height. Accel or MSD also have hotter coils that you can put in. A Weber carb would also give you a lot more power. In regards to not being able to keep up w. the high end imprezas. It really depends on the course and the driver. There is a 1.8 l impreza that regularly beats WRX's and other semi-prepped rally cars. The course has few straight aways so the high end power of these cars can't be fully used. I was canyon driving w/some WRX's in my Outback. 140 HP w/3 passengers. Had no problem keeping up w/them going up the hill, down the hill, brakes overheated and had to drop back. Anyways good luck w/your build. Keep us posted. BW
  11. besides, the only Soob minivan is the beastly B9 Tribeca, destined to got a facelift like the 2002-2004 Impreza. Let's all hang our heads for a moment of reflection and ponder what it could look like... BW
  12. To bad about the wagon. I feel your pain about the california smog nazi's. I am sure this is not the last we'll see of you in the offroad forum BW
  13. I disconnected the harness for the fuel pump and took a wire from fuse box to one end of the connection and then took another wire and grounded it. Fuel pump didn't turn on. I will look into the relay in my electrical schematics. I do have a spare fuel pump lying around I can always test the connections with that before I swap it out. Thanks for the input. bw
  14. I was wrenching on the 4wd shifter linkage and I hit the starter positive wire by accident. Cause a small spark, but then the engine wouldn't start. After about 15 mins of poking around found out that the fuel pump stopped working. I took the fuel pump and hotwired it, no go. Has this ever happened to anyone? BW
  15. Did an engine swap yesterday, EA81 to EA81. Ran great when I was done. Here's the problem. 1) Car won't drive. Tranny in 2wd just spins w/o engaging the front wheels. In 4wd Hi it grinds. In 4wd Lo it grind really loudly. Sometimes if I shut the engine off, the car would lurch forward in 4wd Lo and then pop out. Called Will Smith and he recommended that I check into the 4WD shifter linkage. We had a bit of trouble getting the engine back in and we jacked up the tranny w/o removing the 4WD lever. Has this happened to anyone else. Also what is a fis for this w/o having to drop the tranny and put in a new linkage bars. BW
  16. Yeah turbos aren't the debbil... just get some of that medicine man water in your radiator and keep things nice and cool. But it's much faster than that turbo lawnmower you had.. BW

    Tube Doors

what size tubing did ya use? I was thinking of making a door similar to a Jeep's soft doors. BW
  18. Glad to see you are ok. We can rebuild him.. better faster stronger.. nu nu nu nu..... BW
  19. I think there is a template that some made up and posted a while ago http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=14499&highlight=6+lug+template Here ya go, hope that helps.
  20. In regards to wiring issues. I am also putting in a EA81 GL engine. That should have all of the wiring set up when I plug in the harness right? BW
  21. Welcome, IIRC EA81s are in wagons and sedans up to 84, BRATs and Hatchbacks had them after that. EA82s are in wagon and sedans from 85 on. Easiest way to tell is if it looks like your 83 wagon then it's an EA81. You can also to look at the engine. There should be an engine stamp on the front passenger side of the block. Finally the distributor on the EA81's are located on the front passengar side of the engine, while the disty on the EA82s are on the rear driver side of the engine. BW
  22. I have the entire dash and gauges from a GL. I plan to replace my heater core in the BRAT DL. Will the new dash and gauge cluster fit right in if I wanted to swap it out? Anyone else ever done this. BW
  23. Thanks for the input. I have a buddy coming with me who drove the BRAT back when he got the tranny stuck in 4th gear. We are leaving at 6:00 am so traffic should be super light. I will be behind him to give him a little push on the on ramps and lights. I secured the place to perform the "surgery" Patient is going under for compete organectomy. Need the motor for the BRAT and I figure whatever else I can stuff into the garage for storage. Then its out with the sawzall and the angle grinder and ZZZZ zZZZZZ... into pieces she goes. I know, a sad fate for a wagon, but, anything to keep the BRAT alive right? Will take pics of the whole procedure. BW BTW anyone need any EA81 parts let me know. EA81 GL wagon. Bad tranny.
