Southwest meet, anyone?
s'ko replied to SubaSkeet's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
Hmm..... I am getting married on December 5th. So late winter/early spring would be great. That way I can give my new wife some time to get use to the idea of mud and dirt. Even if we made it something that was annual. BTW she is currently a soob driver, as her Honda Civic is not registered. She got a compliment on my how mean my Impreza sounds. Hope to make her a soob appreciator one day. I think lover or fanatic is too much to ask for. -
This is for a EA81 carbed BRAT Here is what's going on. I figured out that the vacuum advance diaphram on the Disty was bad so I replaced that. Car is idleing like a champ. But there is still a dead spot when I accelerate. After about a 1/2 second, it roars to life and shoots forward. It's like there isn't enough gas to burn with the sudden increase in air. I looked at the acceleration pump in the carby and it's got a good stream of gas going into the number 1 barrel. There are two square looking things on the fuel line route. I think they are fuel solenoids or something like that. Only one is buzzing when I key on. I assume that it means it's working. 1) what are those things? Are they suppose to buzz? 2) Are they both suppose to work? 3) How do I test the one that isn't working. I tried unplugging the one that buzzes and plugged the other one in and it didn't make a noise. Does that mean it's broken? Thanks BW

Aggressive mud/snow tires for stock 13's?
s'ko replied to xbrandonedgex's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Check out Tire Rack for their Kuhmo ER700 rally tires. They are about $60.00 each and have a pretty good tread. -
So I think my Fiance is slowing becoming a soobie convert. Her car is not registered and it's sitting in my driveway. She is driving my OBS and she's getting compliments on how mean it sounds. I think if I were to spend a bit of $$ to get the body damage fixed she may actually like driving it. We eventually plan to sell her Civic.

Ok so while replacing the fuel pump, I played with the timing a bit. I didn't have a timing gun so now it's running funny. I plan to get a gun tonight and work on it a bit. What I am confused about is that the exhaust on the passenger side is really loud. Before the timing was messed with it ran great. Could the bad timing produce sound similar to a exhaust leak or can good timing cover prevent a small exhaust leak from not being noticable? It just doesn't make sense to have an exhaust leak happen overnight. BW

Keep it. I have never seen another BRAT being driven. There are three that I know of that are sitting as their owners piddle around with it. Yes it's frustrating. I have to replaced both rear wheel bearings driver side axle Pass side CV boots both seats, wheels (found 15inch pugs) left fender rear seats/head rests/seat belts distributor cap/rotor (wires soon) front bumper I think I have another $1000 to go until I will be happy with it. But everytime I look at it or when I get dirty with it's black blood. I am happy BW

I think that this may be a one time deal. Probably not going to happen again. BW -
Balancing Subaru and life... (SHE SAID YES!!)
s'ko replied to s'ko's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Well... she said yes. here is the scoop. Told her I was going to WCSS6. (sorry for not making it) Went to Pismo beach and camped on the beach for two days thinking and praying. I found it does wonders for calming you down. Did some dune driving. Love the BRAT. Light and not enough power to get yourself dug in Came back to LA and asked her. She said yes. Good thing I didn't go to WCSS6 w/the BRAT. The fuel pump went out on me right as I was going to the engagement site. That's after driving 400 miles to Pismo and back and getting things ready for the engagement party. The best part it I took her to the PAP on Sunday to pull a fuel pump for the BRAT. she said "so this is guy world huh?" and I sorta chuckled and nodded. BW -
I think I am going to get a can of blue spray paint and make that fender look the same color as the rest of the car.
-
So I found these at a PAP. Mounted some 205-60-r15s on them. Put them on the BRAT and it handles really nice. The only problem is I am having a bit of trouble accelerating and I think my gas mileage has dropped to 15-20 MPG. Is this common?

Here it is.... OBS tribute to old school soobs. I got into a accident a while ago that dented my hood and messed up my light. Been thinking of getting the Morette lights b/c I think that are awesome looking. I was at the PAP and I ran into a 1st Gen wagon w/intact grill. That got me thinking. Pulled the grill and some head lights from an old Audi. And there you have it. Lights work really well. Going to get a bra to cover up the narfed up hood. Sorry I couldn't be there to see your reactions. Enjoy.

s'ko replied to TheSubaruJunkie's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
Things took a drastic turn of event in my relationship w/my girlfriend. After several months of hem and hawing. she's finally ready to get engaged. So I am taking advantage of the fact that I am suppose to be out of town and going to surprise her. Sorry about that. I was really looking forward to meeting everyone. Go to the new gen forum for my project that I was going to reveal. Definately next year. BW -
Real Steelies........Secret Project revealed!

I remember you mentioning something about rail cars. are they for cruising old railroad tracks? -
On my butt-dyno, there did seem to be more high end power. I noticed that low end power did suffer a bit. A cat back exhaust helps get that low end power back. Just remember to keep all of those bits and pieces when you do this so that when you have to smog the car you don't have to scour the internet for them like I did.

here is what I got.

It usually refers to two things. One is removing all of that bent plastic tubing from your air box to the fender away and replacing it with something more direct. It takes improves airflow and produces more noise when you accelerate. There other is in newer Imprezas some people have added an elbow to their throttle body to raise the airbox, removed the hood scoop backing and cut the back of the airbox off to let air come in from there. You are pretty much guaranteed to throw a Check engine light afterwards. Look around NASIOC or RS Club in the n/a tuning part for more info. BW

That's GREAT.. ROFL..... ah... back to work.

I don't I explained myself well. I was able to rescue the pugs. Took them to a tire shop and mounted my old Impreza 205-6-R15 tires. They look nice and there is minimal fender gap. Had to bang the inner fender a bit and bend the fender well in the front to stop rubbing. They used a airgun to tighten the bolts on and while messing with the bolt I broke the nut in the above described fashion. Do you think that drilling the nut in half would work? Or do I run a risk of messing up the threads? Thanks for your input sorry for the bad explanation. BW

Welcome. The way I see it. The Baja is part of a new breed of vehicles called the Sports Activity Vehicle. They are mostly designed for pavement driving, maybe dirt roads or mild off roading. Versatility of having the pseudo-bed is great for dirty gear and maybe some light duty hauling from Home Despot. It is far from a replacement for your pickup. It just depends on what you are going to do with it. Re: turbo vs N/A I have a 2.2L Outback Sport (OBS) 140 HP. sure it's no turbo but I like it's performance and power. Don't have trouble getting zipping around. With my lead foot, turbo would be really dangerous. Hope that helps a bit. BW

So found a set of Pug wheels w/Lug nuts. I mounted the wheels and as I was tightening the lug nuts, the back part of one of them broke off. So now I have the rounded part of the lug nut in the bolt hole with some of the thread still in there. Anyone have any ideas on how to remove it? Thanks BW

sad day for nutt7...(more damage info)
s'ko replied to nutt7's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Ouch. Some helpful info. Being a insurance adjuster (for work comp) we work on a quota system. We are evaluated by the number of closures every month. Property and Casualty guys have higher case loads and their claims are expected to close out in a shorter amount of time. The longer your claim is open the more pressure they will get from supervisor/management to settle. Like everyone else is saying keep receipts and give a reasonable demand for your car. Don't try to get all this money for "pain and suffering" no one likes to be screwed. An honest polite approach is the best one. I am sure that there are certain doctors in your area that are prone to "inflate" claims. Try not to go to them. That will only make your case more suspect. My general attitude is "I have no problem paying people what they deserve. But if they try and screw me, I will make things very difficult for them." Hope this helps and good luck w/your settlement. I would call that road BEAUTIFUL. Especially if you can bust a nice 4 wheel drifts around the bends.

I will soon get my hands on a spare EA81 engine. Going to tear it down to learn about the interior of the Soob engine and how it all comes together. The plan is to rebuild the engine w/more HP. My goal is to get 100 HP out of it but more would be nice. I am looking more for specifics on what people have done. Not really engine building theory. Overall budget would probably be $1000 over a few months.
