My brother is planning to go to Paragon this winter. He has a lifted jeep and a Rubicon. IIRC the park has a variety of trails from mild to wild. I will recon the place and give a write up when I get done. Too bad I will be MOPAR power and not doing it FHI style. One thing you might want to consider if it's in your budget is getting a cheap set of steel wheels and putting your mudding tires onto them. I have a set of WRX rims I picked up for cheap and when I go wheeling I put on my steel rims. When you said that thing about Passanger tires vs. Truck tires what did you mean by that.... please explain as I am a dofus when it comes to tires.. BW

WCSS6 CARAVAN? LA to Hood River

Cool.. looks like this is coming together nicely. Ren-man: Is leaving on Thursday good for you? Subaru Junkie: Are you planning to sleep in your car or in a motel? -
Are you looking for handling or HP? Early imprezas are well within the low end of your price range. Granted some have the 1.8 l engine. 1995 is when the 2.2 l started appearing. You have AWD and there are a ton of parts that can swap from later soobs like the RS. With the extra money left over you could so some pretty nice mods to get it up to par. I have a 2k OBS 2.2l. I have taken canyon runs w/some WRX's and I had no problem keeping up w/them. I had 3 passengers in my car too. My mods are intake, exhaust, front strut bar and 20mm anti sway bar and 2002 WRX wheels. Total cost so far is under 500 bucks. You can pick up WRX wheels pretty cheap on I-Club and NASIOC. Autotrader has over 100 imprezas at the low end of your price range Here is the link http://autotrader.com/findacar/results.jtmpl?model=IMPREZ&start_year=1984&end_year=2005&min_price=&max_price=6000&distance=any&certified=n&advanced=y&advcd_on=n&make=SUB&address=90247&search_type=used&x=34&y=13 $6000 for the car, $4000 for mods.....= SCARY IMPREZA...... woo hooo.. (What I would do w/4k to spend on my car.) .02 BW

you should check out Paragon park. http://www.paragonap.com/index.htm It's in Hazleton PA. Not sure if that's Hazelton, but that's what they had on their website. So you actually have put the 215-70-r15s on your Legacy. Hmmmm.... In terms of fitment, should I have the tire shop check the front to make sure there is no rubbing? Also how much are the Kelly tires that you posted? Thanks for the leg work on this. BW
-
Lios... Are you sure about being able to fit 215/75/r15s? If that is the case it will put us in the range of light truck tires. like BFG Radial Mud Terrain T/A KM. Where did you get your info from. I would like to verify it before I plunk down 400 on BFGs. If you plan to do it, please keep me posted as to how they come out. BW

Re: your security problem. Never heard of anyone else having the problem. May be a defective alarm module. BW

The main thing you want to consider is what you plan on doing with the Legacy. Are you going to do some hard-core off-roading, or forest trail driving. Hard-core offroading mods have yet to be really attempted with the new gen soobs. 1) cars are still expensive and people, like me still owe money on them. 2) Older gen soobs are cheap to pick up and parts are readily available at PAP. In stock form, my OBS does really good. I have 6.5 inches of ground clearance so we are really not that far apart. I have no problem taking it places where you usually dont see passenger cars. It take finese driving to get through some trails that a stock Jeep can just plow through, but then again, Jeeps can't do a hard 4 wheel drift around corners like my OBS. You really need to watch out for is banging up your undercarriage. I have dented my exhaust headers, my cats are bashed up and my resonator on my exhaust is dinged and bent up. For forest trail driving. I just use steel rims w/my 205/55/r15 tires. Some used rally tires are next on my list of things. Money in the area of armor would be good if you do not plan to do a lift. Primitive technologies has a front end skid plate and there is an OEM rear diff guard that you can get. One easy mod if you want lift is to get some Outback Wagon (OBW) struts all around. It will give you a bit of a lift, that will allow for larger tires. Your stock ground clearance is 6.1 inches. The OBW would give you 7.3 inches of clearance. One other thing to look into is your approach angles. I look at the OBS radiator mounts and I think there is a way to raise it a few inches to give me more front approach angle. Will give details when I work it out. Mudrat79 sells a lift kit for the new gen soobs as well. PM me if you have any questions BW

So far I am the only coming from SoCal. There was a guy in Pismo Beach that mentioned he was coming, Subaru Junkie, per mapquest it will take roughly 6 hours for me to get to you. I should be able to get to you in one tank of gas. Are you leaving Thursday night? Also do you have a little motorola walk-about things? Would be good to communicate while traveling. I have two people traveling with me. It I take the BRAT it will be three drivers to two vehicles. -
Here's my submission to MasterCard for a new commercial. Old BRAT w/original axles... 500.00 Rebuild axle from Kragens 78 bucks. Knowing that I have a Subaru that's built like a tank....... priceless. So I am driving my BRAT the other day and my roommate just did a clutch adjustment. This is the first time I have driven it since the adjustment and I felt like it was engaging strongly. So I floor the accelerator and I get this metal crunching noise and then I hear something grenade and bits of metal falling off of the car. Now I am getting no power so I am thinking I grenaded my tranny. Manage to get the car into the middle lane and pull the 4wd lever and I power again. Pull over and see that I blew the Driver side DOJ joint. I shrug and continue on as planned. drove another 20 miles like that. W/O 4wd would have been stuck and fuming. bw

I guess give me a day and a time you are leaving and I can always divert my route to meet up with you in Reno. It's 7 hours to Reno so if I still hold to my plan to leave on Thursday it should be ok. BW -
82 BRAT stock all around I have taken it above 85 when I am late for my hockey games.

Do you plan to continue up the 5 or are you going to take the 84 to Hood River? -
I have an 2k OBS and my buddy has a 1996 OBW. Now comparing the two cars is apples and oranges b/c I have a 20mm rear anti-sway bar and front strut bar, but I think that in stock form I would have been able to out drive his wagon. I drove with him in the local mountains and I felt the car steered a bit heavy compared to my OBS. But then again he has tons more room than I do. I am sure that a lowered OBW w/suspension mods could hang w/a stock WRX. BW

Ok let's get something more official for the caravan to WCSS6 here is what I am thinking... I will be leaving Los Angeles on Thursday morning early. Plan to drive a bit of highway 1. will go through San Francisco and head north on the 5 until I get to Portland. I guesstimage getting to Portland by Friday morning. How does that fit everyone elses schedules and routes? BW
-
hmm.. Interesting. I pulled that code last night. I use to run a ghetto-fabed intake and exhaust w/ 2 1/2 inch pipes. I now have stock intake back on. Car is hitting 88k and I changed the fuel filter around 40k or so. I cleared the code last night and I am hoping for the best. I will post any changes or corrects that I did.

Welcome. I am sure w/your hands on the wiring diagram you can do a little mod to get the light working w/the headlight. Course last time I did electrical work I shorted out my entire car. (put a screw through a main trunk of wires) -
Vote for the Outback Wagon or if you don't need that much room get the Outback Sport. Stick and 2.2 l engine. Lots of performance goodies out there You can probably pick up a 92-01 one for a good price. Problem is if you go to three kids, the car will probably be two small. I guess it depends overall on family size within the next few years. BW
