  1. Its fairly cheap from the dealer. I would use just hose before using copper. Anticipate similar rust on the one that goes under the drivers side head (but above the frame). Check your oil pan for rust-through leaks.
  2. Coolant leaking into the cylinders while running only when on a hill due to increase in thermal loading and therefore increase in temp and therefore increase in pressure? So problem will not happen if you loosen the radiator cap or do the test cold. Easy confirmation...
  3. I have no idea what it iuses as the engine speed sensor- tach input? On the wiring diagram you could follow the wire.
  4. I would do it from the side and use a mirror on a stick if need be. Or a phone on a selfie stick (the only proper use for one, remote video!)
  5. It can be replaced fairly easily, another fix is to lower the window and put a few clamps of some kind across the gap where the window goes while it's hot out, and leave it there until it cools off. Then, make sure no one closes the door by the window!
  6. Could be any of the mounts have become loose or worn, including the rear diff rubber mounts. Looking underneath *from the side* while someone *you really trust* works in from D to R can be helpful.
  7. The wires are stuck forever in the plug that goes in/out of the trans. You can cut near the plug and splice if need be.
  8. What does the ECM use to determine what that signal should be? Whatever that sensor is could be faulty.
  9. The TCs are a bit weak on the H6s? Glad I've started to treat mine a bit more gently... Of course if there's a service reason to pull the engine and he could kill 2 birds with one stone, they could do it by pulling the engine.
  10. Could just be one of the trans cooler lines leaking somewhere that looks like through the bell housing. Could be a seal between the trans and the front diff filling the diff with ATF- check the diff level with the diff dipstick. Could of course be the seal around the torque converter- that would require trans removal. Transmissions can be found www.car-part.com You probably should stick to a trans from a 6 cyl. Must be a non-VDC trans. Yoiu can use up to 2003 trans with no mods, up to a 2004 if you sweap a small part over in the tailshaft housing (extension housing)
  11. D doesn't light up when in drive... but if you move the shifter slow from 3 to N does it flash on?
  12. I've replaced the window jacking unit and motor in my wifes forester twice... no sympathy if you just need a switch! First time the motor was bad, second time something came loose on the assembly.
  13. The bushing rides in front of the oil seal, the nose of the driveshaft yoke goes inside the seal then inside the bushing and over the output shaft. If the bushing is worn enough that could let the shaft wobble enough that the seal can't seal.
  14. This it? http://cobratransmission.com/output-shaft-bushing-r4ax-el-4eat-1301065-1?zenid=66b05e870376f4a32f8287bc531c7ea0 Or is it this one? http://cobratransmission.com/external-housing-bushing-r4ax-el-4eat-1301068-1?zenid=66b05e870376f4a32f8287bc531c7ea0 which is unavailable... These guys may have the second one. http://www.autorxpro.com/store/product.php?productid=22575
  15. That bushing holds the outer part of the driveshaft yoke and is THE rear support for the output shaft. So, it's important. The nose of the yoke might be worn too, but it's steel and the bushing is aluminum plus other stuff. I bet you can find the bushing with some googling. If not, junkyard extension housing with one that's not wiped...
  16. Do the pads fit easily into the caliper brackets? Almost every set of subaru pads I have bought have had the tabs that go into the brackets oversize, and they don;t fit correctly 9or sometimes even at all) until I file the tabs a bit.
  17. Mmmm, clutch basket could be badly grooved, clutches could be worn out, clutch basket may have fallen off the shaft, solenoid valve stuck, the spool valve it controls could be stuck or loose, the O-ring that connects from the transd side to extension case side could be bad or missing, the pipe that sends the fluid to the clutch pack could be loose and leaking, on my 03 theres a small filter screen behind the valve, if you have one somewhere (I think your valve is in the tail section? mine is on the trans proper) it could be plugged.
  18. All the clutch pack parts are replaceable. Come to think of it, if the solenoid is open or shorted, and it does not have AWD, since the solenoid is activated to release pressure (before 2004) it will probably need something other than just the solenoid, unless the solenoid is stuck 'open' (which is a possibility). There are several simple and fairly cheap problems it could be in addition to the solenoid or wiring.
