  1. man I wish my dad was as cool as yours. He just sits on his butt and doesn't do anything except go to work. I have an $18,000 IROC-Z sitting in my backyard that needs a motor/tranny/rear-end rebuild but he's not willing to help pay for any of it. *sigh* As for your oil pump, its pretty easy. I helped my buddy do one in his old 86 XT. Took us a few hours to do it but it ran so much better afterwards. No more valve ticking nothing:D Hope it goes good for you
  2. if ya look hard enough, you can find all pug yards. There is one like 20 minutes away from me and he has rims up the wazoo. I'm gonna see about gettin a set of the 15" 505 turbo alloys (the striped ones) for my wagon until I can affort to get a hub redrill done for a 4x100 pattern
  3. my 79 4wd wagon.....Beer Wagon #3:D also my old 83 hatchback 2wd.......the rusty crusty I thought the name of my hatchback fit pretty well, lol
  4. You might want to check your sway bar mounts. Sometimes if they start to come loose, they will make a "popping" noise like you described. Even if they look to be on there, try to tighten them with a wrench. I know I've driven a car with a loose sway bar bushing in the rear and it was making a popping noise too. Just my $.02:D
  5. All right!!!! Another guy lowering his 4wd Subaru!!! I'm not the only one anymore:D But yeah, to get it lower, put some 2wd xt springs in it. Like said before, it'll drop you another 2 inches or so. I must say, lookin SAWEET man!!! Can't wait to see ya at WCSS6:D
  6. here's a pic of the front of my wagon. Its kinda ugly in this pic but it says it all.... http://usmb.net/gallery/album209/AUT_2832 http://usmb.net/gallery/album209/AUT_3151
  7. pretty nicely actually. I got the whole front suspension dropped out of it and in the process of lowering it. The next step is to finish painting it flat black, pulling the motor back out AGAIN, dropping the crossmember to clean it up real good, dropping the tranny for a good cleaning and painting, new starter, new alternator, new brake pads, cleaned up and painted calipers, springs, struts, etc. Anyways you guys get the picture so now its time to see pictures of it!!!! Finally!!!! http://usmb.net/gallery/album190
  8. yeah I was kinda doin the same thing myself sometime soon. However you do it, it'll add a little bit to the customization of the car seein it already has a lot done to it. Lookin good man!
  9. ask Paul (moosens). He might be able to hook ya up easily. He's the gen 1 master on the east coast. If you were here on the west coast, well I could hook ya up with quite a few; anything from Brats to wagons, 2wd or 4wd. We've got a big selection over here but to find a nice one on the east coast.....yeah god luck:banghead:
  10. I KNOW I KNOW!!!! I had an 83 hatchback and it had one on it. It was a giant piece of s***!! It had so many problems and they're really hard to get tuned right. Also, they are gutless. Compared to a Hitachi, it makes your car very gutless. I finally traded my hatchback for my 79 wagon which has a lot more power than my hatchback and it has a 1600 in it!!! So IMO, get rid of it fast and get a real weber or a hitachi, NOT that carb because it has more problems then it is worth.
  11. also another cause is the bearings could be on the way to failing. Had the same thing happen on my v6 '88 Camaro. I thought it would be all right to drive down to NAPA and get a new belt and a new alternator. Started pulling out and the alternator froze on me and broke the serpentine belt.
  12. WOAH!!!! *goes and humps the wall* Thant gen 1 is PERFECT!!!! I wish mine looked like that.....well it will soon:D
  13. yeah you don't need to pull the pulley unless you're removing the front cover from the rest of the armature assembly. It'll take some prying to get the front and back covers off but be careful that you don't damage the brushes, bearings, springs, etc. inside or else you should just go find another alternator.
  14. yeah I can't stand to have just a "taste" of beer. It has to be more like a nice glass. So basically we can bring our own glasses and the people who don't can use dixie cups:D
  15. so you can have an LSD in your gen 1 but you have to get it from a Datsun with the same rear end. I believe its an R160 rear end. It kinda sucks that they don't completly match the whole 3.889:1 and the 3.90:1:-\
  16. I know Andrew got a set of gen 2 heads from Flowmaster87GL and I looked at the a couple days ago to see if I could port and polish them easily. Well, the water jacket into the exhaust port has a crack in BOTH of them. The passenger side is a lot worst then the driver side but they still have cracks. I couldn't believe it!!
  17. my wagon has a 3.90 in the rear. It has the tag on it. Mudrat79 also said that gen 1's have 4.11's in them. I wonder what is up with this? Do they really have 4.11s or 3.90s? Maybe someone put a 3.90 tag on my rear diff if it has 4.11s in it. Strange....very strange.....
  18. and when I mean lift, I don't mean an actual lift. The wagon is gettin a new paint job done to it. Startin off cheap but it is look really good. I'm using flat black rattle can BUT since I'm sanding it and putting on a few coats, it is looking pimpin. I got the "new" hood painted, the cowl, and both rear quarter panels done. Next is the doors, then the hatch and the front fenders. Since I'm doin it right, I'm also doin the door jambs by pulling the doors off and painting the jambs. I also pulled the front fenders off and stripped the core support and painted it too. Next I'm pulling the motor and tranny AGAIN and stripping the engine compartment and painting it. I'm gonna put a new undercoat on it after I pull the front suspension and cut the springs to lower it. I then am gonna clean the tranny and paint it the same color as the motor (Ford Dark Blue) and put it back in. Pics to come because the digital camera is dead but I did manage to snap a few before it died:D:headbang:
  19. Mike, I need a cheap good running car and if this is a pretty good running car, I might need to buy it. I'll talk to ya this weekend about it but I need something to drive until I get the beer wagon goin.
  20. dude, do what I've done in the past. Even if it has expired tags and no lights, put a tow strap between the two and if you get pulled over, just tell the cop that you just got the car that day and you're just takin back to your house, nowhere else. Its worked in the past with me.....even when I was driving the car home with a friend following me in his car, thats what I told the cp and he let me go. I bet if ya tow it with a tow strap, it'll be all right. Granted you said its like 90 miles but thats what pit stops are for:D
  21. I believe Austins wagon is not yet lifted but it does have 15" pug rims on it so it lifted it a little bit but its still stock height.
  22. Matt, wire it directly to your ignition so when you turn the key to "on" the fuel pump will come on. Thats the easiest and cheapest way to wire it. Then after it goes through the ignition, wire it through the relay so it'll kick the fuel pump on. I've done it before on a 1964 Mecury Comet and it worked fine.
  23. yes valve covers. Also, it might be a good idea to replace your oil pan gasket if it has oil leaks from there also. I know mine did and it has 375,000 miles on it:D
  24. I've got a buddy that has already had the Brat Boy Devil stickers made. His board name is "the_bull" but he hardly ever posts. He gave me one and asked me if I could sell them to the guys on the board so I came on but no one wanted any. I've still got the sticker, unmounted, and I might be able to get it scanned for ya if ya want me too. If not, I am trying to sell them for $11.00.
  25. does it smoke white or does it smell like buring antifreeze coming out the tailpipe? I'm not positively sure on how to check but I know those are a couple more symptoms of a cracked head/bad headgasket.
