  1. i got one for ya... seems like a bunch of people beat me to it... but hey, on me if you end up needing it...(i owe ya for the locks! ) speaking of locks, sorry for the hyjack, caboobaroo, hows dat coming? pm me? thanks! and good luck!
  2. WHOA its like looking at my brat in the mirror...(technicaly that doesn't make any sence... but you get the idea...) very nice! mine needs a wee spot of rust repair... undercoat is probably a decent idea!
  3. alright... the accelerator pump sprays a bunch of gas into the carb when you "gun" it... so it won't bog down with lack of fuel... its easy to check... take off your air can... then open up the choke with your finger...(it should be open anyway if the car is on... but it doesn't have to be... i'd leave it off...) then there is a linkage right out front of the carb... its got a spring coil around it... you can't miss it... its the biggest, most accecible linkage on the carb... now just pull up on it... and look into the carb when you do it... you should see a bunch of gas squirt out into the barrel... if you don't see any gas then thats your problem...
  4. sounds like accel pump to me...what the rest of you tihnk?
  5. wow your prepared! for normal driving i stick with only a few tools... not much room in a gen 1 brat... i have a few wrenches, some screw drivers(magnetic ones for if i drop a bolt in a hard to reach spot), big flood lights(hand held, one battery powered, one plug in one), a dead blow hammer, jack(obviously), some duct tape... ummm... i always carry my leatherman and LED flashlight around with me... so i guess those count... FSM too...(in the car not in my pocket!) if i go on a road trip i bring everything... all my tools...(i just have a basic toolbox crammed full of tools and a complete ratchet set... some jack stands...) i also usually take along a spare axle or at least the stub... (for the front) ummmm... bungy cords... i can't think of anything else i carry...
  6. i'd say thats pretty steap... most go for around half that... the most i think i have ever seen one was for like 200... work him down or go find one somewhere else!
  7. how easy is that mod to do without taking the trans out?
  8. that was awesome! AC DC all the way! hope the new engine goes well... perhaps a snorkle is the next mod? love the sticker on your back window... that should be standard equipment for soobs! Good luck!
  9. those tires usually have a weight max... even though soobs are light, they are still much more then those maximums... becuase they are meant for atv's... you might want to look into that before using them...
  10. it is a nationwide thing and a provincial thing... there are actually 2 inspections... one federal and one provincial... the provincial is a more difficult inspection to pass... only about 1/3 of the cars on the road will pass... but luckily for everybody else they don't have to take it... but since my car came from the states they feel it isn't safe...
  11. oh you do have to notch the frame... how hard is that to do? how what is required to do it? any welding? i don't have easy access to a welder... so i hope to be able to do this conversion with as little welding on the car is possible... i'll see what i can come up with... i won't be able to do this until summer probably... for 2 reasons... i am driving the car daily to school... and i can't get another car...(parents rules...) and also its technically illegal for me to modify my car... i had to go through vihicle inspection... and i can get called back to VI anytime during the first year... there is a sticker on my windshield to let cops know... so if i'm caught speeding or something they can screw me over by sending back into VI... and to pass VI the car has to be stock... if i add little stuff like disc brakes, carb, ect. they don't car... but a complete drivetrain swap they wouldn't go for... especially when it requires notching the frame!
  12. i'm really not into notching my frame... first off i don't have the equipment to do that... and 140hp is to much for me... i plan to learn how to rally and stuff in this car... i don't need 140hp to do anything that i do... and the ej18 is upgradable if i choose to go bigger/better... so is the ej22 but hey... and last not many people use the ej18... i like being a little different then everybody else...
  13. alright after much thought and deliberation i've come up with somewhat of a scheme for what i might do... mind you its 2:15am so it might not make all that much sence in the morning... so i'll be running the RX trans...(obviously) with the LSD...(duh...) from a source i learned that that the rear disc brakes will bolt right onto my 79... so sweet... i get disc brakes! (lets hope they are still there... i dunno exactly what the guy has...) then as for the engine... i feel that not only is it to much of a hassle to stuff it in... but its also overkill for what i am going to be using it for... the ej22 was also kinda overkill in my mind... this car is going to be a commuter for 90% of the time... and i really don't want to kill myself... the 1600's have a lot more gusto then people think... that aside... i think my engine of choice is going to be the ej18... not only are they somewhat plentifull but they fit the #'s that i want... plus my parents wouldn't be to happy with my bombing around with 140hp... they don't feel that its safe... so i think the 1.8 is a good compromise... 110hp seems like a good power...(its way better then 65 thats for darn sure...) and with exaust and what not it sound be a better then stock #'s... (a custom exaust would probably be easier then hodge podging together an exaust from the stock pieces right? maybe just the y-pipe? dual exaust perhaps? ) also from another source... i learned that with some modding the rear suspension can be used in my car... once again i don't know if its still around... but its worth a shot eh? so i'd most likely be trading the EA82T for an ej18... or selling it and buying an ej18... any takers??? nah i better wait till its actually in my garage before i go selling the stuff... i'm gonna email the guy tomorrow... see if i can get a full list of whats there... and perhaps set a date in which i can scoot my arse up there...
  14. that excites me... its all coming together... http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=44295 ej22 seems like an awesome option for this now... since now i know that it fits! lets just hope you never have to get that valve covers off... i'm deffinatly going to be talking to you after you've finished... i've got this thing where i ask so many questions it hurts... good luck!
  15. its nice to see another BC BRAT!!! especially one so awesome!!! that brings my brat count to 5 (that i've actually seen... many more through the grapevine...) so your using the whole wrx drivetrain??? (i'm assuming because of the 5 bolt wheels...) ohhhh this so makes me want to go get all that stuff for my car... http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=44295 we'll both have sweet modded brats to the max if i actually do this... heh...
  16. it says they only have one... its cheap... maybe just pick it up and check it out... its hard to tell by just looking at it but its the same kinda look as the ones on my 79... HMMMMM...
  17. i don't know if i am going to use the RX suspension... i don't know if its still intact... the guy used the car as a rally car (this was pro rally) and ran into a rock and rolled the car multiple times... and i shouldn't have to modify the rear end any right? to accept the LSD... but perhaps the sway bar might be good...? i dunno... still working out the details in my mind...
  18. alrighty! now for now i'm going to keep this "theoretical"... but lets just say, for instance, that perhaps i could get a complete RX drivetrain for free if all i did was get it... as of for now in my theory the drivetrain is the only parts left... so engine, trans, rear end... (although there is most likely brakes, ect. perhaps the car was rolled and say most of it was destroyed...) now perhaps i just so happen to have a brat... now i know it would be uber hard to do... but what might i have to do to make everything smoosh together to make a RX Brat? this would be in my 79... so that makes it even harder... input? cool idea? to much work to make it cool? i've been told that the engine is to wide to fit in between my frame rails... options? mounting the trans? crossmember issues?

  20. ya the outbacks have a fat arse... when i drive my parents legacy it always feels like i'm gonna hit something with it...
  21. alright i made a choice! went and picked them up this afternoon... after talking with the guy at my yokohama dealer he suprisingly enough talked my dad into getting snow tires! (they were also cheaper then the avid t4's which were going to be my choice if he hadn't started talking... so i got BF Goodrich Winter Slolam tires... apparently they are a harder rubber then normal winter tires which should make them last longer... he said i should be able to get 4 years outa them... so i'm happy... i got agressive(fairly) snow tires instead of all-season! thanks for you imput guys!
  22. i like the look of both those tires... checked out some ratings on them too... the yokohamas seem better... but the TA's have a a beafier looking tread... HMMMMMM... i'm getting these tires from a tire store... need them pretty much now... can't wait for them to come in the mail from discounttiredirect.com... i'll get some quotes today... anybody else got some ideas??
  23. alrighty... i'm getting new tires for my 79 brat... SWEET... the kumho's i'm running right now are falling appart at the seams... starting, stopping, turning is all becoming a challenge with these tires... especially in rain... yikes... near rear-endings are plentifull in my car... so i wanted to get these... http://www.coopertire.com/us/en/Pro...Passenger+Tires a friend of mine can get them for $60 a tire...(cheap cheap for the tire) but my parents don't want to throw down 240 bucks on a set of tires which will most likely be treadless in 2 years... (since i am in school they are paying for my car pretty much... because my bro's car was free... while mine was not... livin' it easy!) so i need to get an all-season tire... one that has a good life-span... so i ask you all... i want something with a decent tread pattern that i can rally, light 4x4, commute, ect... a tire that'll make me happy and safe while keeping my parents wallets happy... (i feel kinda bad... lots of stuff breaks on my car...) avoiding walmart, cosco, canadian tire brands... looking for real tires here... also keeping stock size... 175/70/13
  24. i have a 77 FSM while i use for my 79... also have the supliment for the manual... its not much but i contribute when i can!
