  1. yes he means taking your rear diff and welding the spider gears together... then when your off the trail taking out one of the axles so your rear end doesn't explode when you go around a corner on dry roads... the axles are outside the gearbox... if you look under your hood there should be 2 of them on either side going off the gearbox and into your wheels... look at the 2 rubber boots on the axles(on either ends of the axles... so there is a total of 4 boots on the front section of your drivetrain...)... if they are torn and water gets in them they will get ruined really fast... there would also be an excess of grease laying around in there... it sounds like you want a suspension lift... i'm sorry to tell you but that is near impossible... you'd have to make pretty much all the suspension parts from scratch to make it fit right... a body lift is pretty much your best/only option... the lift itself will only give you better approach and departure angles... the real height of these vihicles comes from the larger tires that you'll be able to stuff under the fenders after you lift it... and finally... Welcome to the board! i hope this helps you out...
  2. i think you'd have to use spacers... but i think you'd have to get some made or make your own... and pssssst... if you use the enkies what you gonna do with those other rims???
  3. well we were all driving up to whistler and guess what i passed??? it was an 06 impreza... i had no idea that the new grill was going to be brought into north america this year... i checked on www.subaru.ca and determined that yes indeed they are here... i talked to the dealership guy about a month ago and he didn't even know the B9 grill was being carried over to the imprezas... so it came as a suprise to me to see one... although i am starting to like it... it had a stunning resemblence to the grill on my 79 brat... anyway... just seeing if any of you have seen one driving about yet???
  4. thanks northwet... now all i need is money to get it welded... i can do all the prep work myself but i don't have a welder... and Mike... eye-balling is for chumps!!! heh... chump! nah your no chump... so where are you now? back in cali?
  5. banter banter banter... how am i doing? brittle dry ice isn't good... you want it to stay in one peice when you throw it at somebody... does your intercooler work super good with the dry ice on it???
  6. Der you go... i kept it on high res for ya... save it! only so much space in my photo album... not much room for other peoples cars!
  7. ummmm... i think i may know who the owner may be... i can't remember his name... but he camped out on right side of the campground if you were facing towards the road... he was with his friend or brother with an 81-83 looking blue wagon with a huge arse white tube bumper on the front... it was hand bent with all the bends caved in... but enough about his bumper... ya i think it is his... he was the only other guy i saw there with a laptop besides oddcomp... we caravaned down with him... anybody remember/know his name??? i have no idea how it may have ended up where it did though...
  8. oh ya hey... if you need some pages scanned from my FSM i'll gladly do it... i got mine for free... actually i got the FSM then the supliment FSM... for free... i'm done now...
  9. and you unplugged the timing advance vacuum before you did it??? to properly set the timing you have to unplug it... also have your idle at 900rpm's since it is a cali car...(instead of 850) although with the advance taken off this shouldn't be such a big deal... sorry if this is a duh kinda idea... and getting access to an exaust machine would help a bunch... last... did it fail during the idle test or the driving test???
  10. it might be any of those things... i'd see if i could get my hands on a timing light... check the timing... if all is well there then i'd look into other things... the float is super easy to check... there is a viewing window on the side of the float bowl... then there should be a dot or something on the viewing window and that dot should line up with the fuel level... if it doesn't then i'd open it up and have a look see... also... i tuned my carb while it was hooked up to an exaust machine... makes it a whole lot easier... most school with auto shops have them... i did mine during class... i'm sure a school in your area wouldn't mind you tuning it... let the students watch and help out... pay the teacher a few bucks and off you go...
  11. He has helped me on a number of occations... all of which i walked away happy...i bought my car from him and he has been backing his sale (by giving me constant help) and i don't think i could have dealt with a much better person... the fact that he has gone the extra mile for me and for others on multiple occations shows that he is good guy... if you want to get some results outa him phone him! although he has a different cell #... i feel sorry for the poor guy who got his old #... I have been able to talk to him around once every 2 months (depending on how much stuff brakes on my car)... so maybe you should give him a call... he will get the job done... and besides some places in australia i don't think your going to find another place to make an ej/ea adaptor kit... thats my take...
  12. if your getting to much fuel in your car then you might want to check the float bowl level... if i'm not mistaken those carbs used a foam made float for the bowl... they sometimes get heavy and lower down in the bowl... then more gas goes into the bowl and puts an excess amount of gas in the carb... when you rebuilt the carb did you replace the float? i'm having carb troubles myself... i would check the hoses and stuff... if there are any loose ones and stuff it'll mess everything up...
  13. yes i do have headrests, but thanks for the offer!
  14. thanks for your help... i need to know how far away from the back wall the seat bracket sits... now on the seat bracket there should be 4 tabs... and those tabs are what is welded to the bed... now i have the tabs still on the bracket but they were ground down on the bed... i would like to know how far away that tab is from the backwall... those tabs should also be holding the bracket just above the bed... this measurement isn't to important... but just for a factory look i'd like to get it close... sorry i don't have a pic... i hope i discribed it good enough... thanks again!
  15. i've been wanting to do this to my brat as well... and here is what you'll need if you want to keep the fabing to a minimum... find an 81 parts brat... it has to be an 81... they came with a d/r and the ea81... but here is where it gets tricky... if you want a 5spd you'll have to fab/modify the trans crossmember to fit it... i think the 81s only had the 4sp... and a newer trans doesn't quite fit it... you'll also need the belly-pan(front crossmember) where the engine sits... hopefully with all the engine mounts... you'll also need the y-pipe from the 81... the exaust isn't the same... now once you do that you can also add power steering if you fancy it... the dual carb set up from your ea71 isn't quite long enough if i do believe... the manifold is a different lenth... the diff from your brat will fit with the new trans... they have no difference... driveshaft might be different... i have no idea... hope that helps...
  16. not long enough! hehe... i wonder if my 79 came with a warrenty... and if so what kind??? how long??? hmmm... something for a different thread... go to the dealer man!!!
  17. Whistler has a whole fleet of things like that... i looked at them and to my disapointment they aren't subarus... although they look identacle to that one... they use them in and around the village and sometimes on the mountain... tough little trucks they are... but i can completely tell why they are illegal to drive on the road... any type of hit at any real speed would kill... and i know that old cars are more unsafe... a 360 is probably more dangerous then one of those things... but they are new and have to comply with new safety standards...
  18. your outback is still under warrenty isn't it??? thats something few of us get to enjoy... but if you check the fluid and nothing is wrong there then i would go a knocking on subaru's door... home all goes well...
  19. looks great! did you have to roll/trim the fenders at all??? any rubbing on the fender walls??? makes me want to buy a forester and mod it to the max with all of the money i don't have...
  20. that was GREAT!!! best subie vid i've ever seen! aight... i'm gonna go watch it a couple more times! now i really gotta get out and roo it up...
  21. i saw one at the tire store i used to work at... and my parents saw one at the jazz fastival a couple months ago... the one i saw at the tire shop was getting rims mounted on it... it didn't look bad... but i wouldn't do it myself... even if i had the money...
  22. was driving to a friends house yesterday and saw a GL coupe with "sport" writen on the side... it was a mid-late 80's looking GL... does anybody know what makes this GL a sport model??? it didn't say turbo or anything on it...
  23. this is a full on trailor... drive your car onto kinda thing... its pretty much a huge flat platform... perfectly sized to fit subies... so the platform hangs over the wheels... gen 1 has torsion suspension as well... its different from the gen 2 but i don't quite know how its different... i know it makes the gen 1's harder to lift though...
  24. i would grab the engine and anything that says turbo on it... then down the road make your own...
