Ideas for unusual mods
ea81 wagon, So I plywooded my rear deck for hauling, its gotta hinged section that folds down to give me a full 6' of space for camping when you don't wanna set up the tent or hammock or get her butt muddy. Storage box and speakers in the rear seat location. I gotta 120v inverter for the java, I want enought power for a hot plate but thats gonna wait ($) Wood roof rack. I installed fuel/air mixture meter for tuning my weber. I now want to lynchpin the doors but it depends on what I do for speakers on my next interior fab (stain grade wainscotted rear deck and rear doors with plywood slide rails for a coverslip/hauler! ) Something to think of though is finding a set of front seats that fold dead flat, situate them so the backs go into the rear seat location or atleast level out with the hight of the rear deck after its been upholstered and cushioned, deck out all the voids so when you want to "sleep " you can just lay the seats down pull the curtains and (go) you have a full bed ready car! Snow bunnies dream! I don't think the seat hight will work though

Brat Under Constrution (Pic)
I have a 2inch lift with 235/70 r14s toyo a/ts on an 82 wagon and I had to cut into the fenders a bit. The rears fit fine, no cutting but its close. On the front I had to pound the firewall a lot and the cut on the firewall side doesn't seem so grace full. It had to go all the way back to the firewall and I had to pound the pinchweld flat. I wouldn't go 14s again. There is no selection. The tires are 26.5". If I were to do it again, I would go 3" in the front, 2" in the rear.

Legacy Hi/Lo with diff lock
I think they made it to japan, the UK and Australia only. I wish we had them here in the US. Its a foolish thing not to have them here. Maybe they don't wear out fast enough for importation.

Best way to wire back up lights
You got me thinking, the best way to wire up the lights, mostly for human error, would be to wire up a "Off Road" light harness with one main switched power for all the extra lights and functions (like compressor for air or 120v converter or whatever), but, use the stock wiring harness to relay the on/off functions. That way you (I)wouldn't blind the person behind you when your at the mall or play with your clutch at a light and get pulled over for forgetting you left something on. Yet, with the flick of one switch you have all your extra offroad stuff functioning or at least ready to turn on. Then you could isolate your extra consumption and fuse it seperately as well as being able to track problems that occur over time.

molded carpet
I heard, the carpet is flat then streched barely under the rear seats on the tunnel, more from passengers and wear. Someday I hope to know for sure. I have to get my interior finished after my ej swap. I'll be watching if your posting.

Different kind of rust repair.
Opel, I like that! With a little fiberglass you could give it wings! Or make it vanish.

Roll Call for UNcracked EA81 Dash
YES! The car has been kept in the dark. The last one I tried to get imploded and I'm sure started a black hole. (In my current dash)

Recent BRAT purchase
Well, I paid 2k for mine with drivers dents and rust around the muffler not so bad, not drivable, bad wheel bearings tranny shot, no disty, bumper half off, and a smashed tailgate. Its driving now but still has a wobble at higher speeds after $500 in parts alone. At least you have the tailgate trim. Dont lose it. Gotta love those t tops!

How exciting
Are those holes from the ammo in the first pic? Glad to hear no one was hurt. House fires are really scary!

amphibious GL?
That might (must) be it. Thats the style that does the opening day opening day on the lake. I thought there was another one made earlier. I'm not finding it, so it must be. If you look at the seattle times article on them it shown a pic of the props and I saw one with little tiny propellers, not the big monsters these have. http://www.seattlepi.com/local/361715_needle05.html Check out http://www.watercar.com though!

amphibious GL?
I don't have any pics but there is a guy that takes his car every few years out to lake union for the fireworks on the fourth. Its a blast to see that thing in action! Its a corsair looking like thing, stock with factory propellers made in like 54 for a one year run or something. It needs a knuckle rebuild after it hits the water every year. Its also way to heavy, can't go to fast or it will sink from the head waves, the water line is like 8" from the windows and the props are way to small. Its still better than the old Volkswagen Thing as far as reliability and not rusting out. The GL has the transmission to use to get some power and the ea81 does seem to be the best submersible motor!

amphibious GL?
Hey make a hydroplane skid plate so the front is off the water and the wheels are still in it so you can steer, might need/want thinner wheels, when you are getting up to speed. I'll bet the motor and tranny could put down some power on the water. If you look up buying a propeller, manufacturers give some insight that might make that proposition of making a boat very real. It will have to be a complete tear down, but, hey A/C for your inflatable bits. Nothing to roll, remember.

My 2WD to 4WD GL (56k beware)
Save that 2wd rear end for a boat!

amphibious GL?
Nice! You have some weight on there too! It would be way too cool to weld some stationary windows to the bottom to look through.
