  1. As much as all the other stuff listed helps out, the one thing I have used the most wheeling, more than tools, a spare shovel, flashlights, straps or what have you is hand cleaner and rags. The shovel can save your life though, especially in snow. No matter how hard I tried to maneuver in the snow covered cascades once I was heading towards this cliff......
  2. And yer telling us about your jumps with no PICS?!
  3. The rack wouldn't just shudder when breaking, it would do it all the time. Lets see.... ball joints, tie rod ends, the little steering column bushing above the little u joint, control arm and radius rod bushings, wheel bearings tightened correctly, rag joint, then rack. ( did I miss anything?) Its a whole refreshed front end almost for just a little more than just the rack! Some people think "tight" is good for the big nut holding on your wheels like ford. Subaru thought 200lbs tight is better and designed it for that.
  4. Thats torque bind you experienced and the regulator is most commonly internal. I got a napa brand radiator and it sprung a leak after 9mos but it was replaced free due to the 1yr warranty. Cost me $130something? Solid copper no aluminum or plastic. I would do that again. Same "performance radiator" brand.
  5. Torque Bind! Never heard of an AWD ea82 unless its a mod, they are 4wd and will bind when cornering unless there slippage i.e. snow or loose gravel. I hate it when dealers call loyales AWD. I've seen that slip too many times.
  6. I use a tool I made from a worn out hole saw and attached it to a drill motor. I just ground the teeth off and made tangs to fit the slots. Just don't kill the rubber, go slow. Ask me how I know. If you had your discs resurfaced to much that can be a cause. No pads, thin disc.......trouble. There is not a lot of throw in a brake caliper. I'm sure you could make a tool out of what you got if you could get to a grinder, a socket, possibly a sturdy set of needle nose or vise grips but that would be a pita. The factory tool looks like this.... >-l but bigger obviously. Its rather obnoxious to use too but better than a set of plyers. Old brake fluid will absorb water too causing rust and binding the brake, so bleed that good. You might be able to free it up.
  7. The bicycle holder!!!!!!! Ingenious! I got a Kenwood to fit with the extention plate and its not to bad. They have a mp 223 or later model that sorta fits not so bad. Its just like 3/4" to big but you can still shift.
  8. I wouldn't feel like its all on you( well it is, you offered) but everyone stateside is just trying to reverse engineer what NZ subaru has done, not you. Dont you think its annoying that some country besides your own gets all the really cool options? I want a d/r with options. Who wouldnt? I also want to fix it if it breaks. Can I do that here? I want a sambar too! I couldn't drive one here if I had it legally. And Darn it why cant we download the manual!!!! Maybe you could distribute some of the top secret NZ subaru specs to help us understand what you got. I know translation is a pain but some of us even speak canadian! I'm local to the scooby and for the price I would love to fit it in my brat.

I,ve got a 2" from sjr and he made it custom as a full body lift at every junction, the only way to lift. Its maybe harder than a 3" or 4" to install but only on ease of getting to the bolts. But who cares, I LOVE it! I eat axles, only because I've been remanning my own from used sources and beating the rig on forest roads and in the snow all season long, got nailed once. You cant trust anything on the market as far as locally avaliable remanufactured axles. I really, to tell you the truth, don't see a big difference in the style of front strut blocks to warrant any extravagance from one style to another. I do however feel better with the full strut cap, cut tube with flange v.s. blocks cut and drilled. I would do a three in the front if I where to do it again. I think it would look better.
  11. It took me 6 tries to get that mark to line up the first time I did ea82 timing belts.
  12. 62.4mpg!!!!!! 2009 model is supposedly only 3000 strong with 1000 going to england. Google is #1 Its a conspiracy against the US so we will run out of gas!
  13. Funny thing happened to me just last weekend. I had just one stud come loose and only prepared for a retap on one. Funny, as I put it back together, I found two more had stripped just under gentle wrenching. Back to the store. It was gonna take a hour but it turned into a few more after having to go back and get more studs and start the process all over again. Glad to have had a second car. If ones going ..........
  14. That is just like a benz! What a ride! I think I'm feeling a little GREEN! JEALOUS!!!JEALOUS!!!JEALOUS!!!JEALOUS!!!JEALOUS!!!JEALOUS!!!JEALOUS!!!JEALOUS!!!JEALOUS!!!JEALOUS!!! JEALOUS!!!JEALOUS!!!JEALOUS!!!JEALOUS!!!JEALOUS!!!JEALOUS!!!JEALOUS!!!JEALOUS!!!JEALOUS!!!JEALOUS!!! But not maliciously.....JEALOUS!!!
  15. After having that little plastic thing go bad, I would just pull the piece you want to bend out and do it off the car. Had it popping out of the socket when driving and not being so easy to get back in, and only during shifting of course. I used a table mounted vice and it bent fine. I had two bolts underneath to pull and the interior bolt (and interior) to not have to try to reapply the little rubber boot and wire. On a ea81 with the 5pd d/r, then unlifted, I had to drop the driveshaft, but your lifted. I bent mine after my lift install to not always hit the 'next track' button on the cd player.
  16. Tires rubbing on the strut or a wheel bearing?
  17. Well, after the Mad Max armor is done!
  18. I put on a freeflow muffler, you can see right through it, Magnaflow, I think. Its really not that loud either. At least 2 more seat of your pants HP! What is the acid that is formed from exhaust gasses, like when it mixes with water or something? Doesn't that eat paint and start rust?
  19. I thought slight positive camber is better for off road applications.
  20. When I was last looking into widebands, I found a couple of tuner shops that would rent them for a day or two, installing them as well.
  21. There was only one persons advise I listened to in my life. That advice is to ignore anyone who starts off by saying, "You know what you should do...." If I listened to others peoples B.S. I'd prolly be dead. "Here you should try this", "No, I'm driving." I want a coupe so bad! You all are lucky. I think they look like the older Mercedes and should be chromed up so. Pimp that ride! When I'm done with my $400 wagon, I'll have bout 12x that into it b'for paint. Plus the can of "new" car smell.
  22. Hmmm, might be true. I guess I'll measure, I got my lift from sjr and didn't measure. Its should be the same between ea81s, brat or wagon. It could be different than an ea82. Well, I eyeballed it with a little angle gauge off the shock. Looks to me to be closer to 15 than 22 but I'm on a gravel hill so not so accurate. Maybe someone will pipe up.
