  1. Hose, barbs and clamps, and a trying we go!
  2. Yahoo! Age appropriate? Hacky-sack! Ya cant win unless everyone else does too! It was really nice meeting you all. I had fun. Thanks Zap!
  3. Thanks for your reply, I was wondering if it would make the flow more smooth as the carb pump pumps in spurts, like an old mechanical pump. I don't know the pressure range of a spfi or mpfi pump vs. a carb pump. Does someone? I just grabbed two pumps from the JY for $7.50 so I might give it a go. It can only cost me some crimps and new line, filter and time. I got a good regulator so I'd like to see it function. OBK, you mentioned your friend is running no regulator in his ea82, Whats his mileage? I had/have to run a regulator on my ea81 it wouldn't/won't tune at all, it was flooding my bowl.
  4. Hey, I hate not having any snow or ice, trade? Up here its a novelty that comes and goes, sometimes, it snows every other year for a week if we are lucky, but everyone misses the changing of seasons. We normally get two seasons, summer and fall that ends in may. Ya like cold rain? Back on topic, I got my ej22 and 5spd d/r mounted on my new power steering rack and crossmember and in my brat. That was fun in gods garage on my sloped and rutted sandy dirt drive. I had to use a shovel under the hoist to lift it to slide plywood underneath every few inches to get into position. I had to stand on a shovel and hold the engine with one hand, (push the motor and the shovel goes down and pull the motor the shovel goes up, while fully extended on the hoist:eek:) and slide the ply around with the other hand. Wee fun! Prolly took me three hours just to get the motor over to the car and over the engine bay and I had a wheeled dolly. Two inches of forward motion would bury the wheels of the dolly or hoist, two inches deep. Lots o fun. At least it had stopped raining.
  5. Ok, 2 ?s 1st one is, will I ever run into problems with a spfi pump on my 90' ej22 swap not having enough flow? I have heard some folks needing to upgrade their pump. Is that for a turbo? 2nd one, On my weberized ea81, I have a redline fuel pressure restrictor with a 1-4lb adjustment. it doesn't seem adjustable and I have never understood why. I have a fuel pressure gauge that reads in the right zone but on startup it fluctuates alot for the first few minutes. I fear it might be flooding my bowl. I just read a post by, I think GD, who summarized that the pressure regulators need more pressure to really operate. That being said, would it be in my best interest to upgrade my fuel pump to a spfi or mpfi pump to fine tune the weber and stop the erratic pressure? If so what pump?
  6. Save the old axles to sell here on the board to cover costs:grin:
  7. Its pretty normal before 40? Check your wheel bearings by jacking up the car and shaking/wiggling the wheel, it shouldn't have any play. Check the steering linkages as well, make sure nothing is loose, inner and outer tie rods. A bad repair can ruin someones day. The u-joints for sure. Common probs. Some POs use different specs than book specks so check the axle castle nut for tightness for sure, might need/want bearings then. Ball joints just snap right? I had a bolt come loose once on my knuckle that held the shock on, maybe I didnt notice when I changed a tire and it was the po? That shook the car on the freeway. Thats what my brat came with, the list. Oh, don't hold the shifter, it wears out the trans. Should be a sticky for weird shakes, somewhere...
  8. Nice shots! It looks like its almost sunset with the sun that low. Wow!
  9. That xt6 has a lot of parts for a old gl if you want to hot rod one out. Ej an old coupe or something with center diff lock and 5 lug conversion....MMMM tasty!
  10. Get the new coupe anyway:banana: Nothing like something to drive while the rig is down. Then you can drive your old coupe lifted and re-strengthened to not fall to some silly big rock! It could be a roo like the submarine from "Ten Thousand Leagues Under the Sea"! You have a welder! .......... I'm thousands of miles away! Sometimes I listen to advice from wherever..... If you got a deal on a coupe, I would take it. You don't see to many anymore and once the damage is done to the frame it can only get worse later. ^^Or re-frame it. By the way, I'll bet that has sucked like hell, for ya. I was loving your work. You had done a great job.
  11. So they have been under my nose the entire time. Learn something new every day!
  12. I was looking for one, a 99' for a buddys imp and couldn't find one in the state for a month. I so wanted one for my brat as well but full price wasn't something I wanted to wait for.
  13. The little cables don't make it through 20 yrs of sitting really well especially the push and pull variety. Double check those, there are two i believe and one is a pita and ends right above your gas petal. I have to reach under to shove mine to hot if anyone touches the hot cold control. The holders suck and the housing cracks. If you look inside the airbox you can see the flapper door not closing all the way. If its blockage or the fan I'm sure you would have figured that out.
  14. I believe the hydro lifter ea81 motors are only 85 and after in the brat and hatchback. Brat production ended in 87 and hatchback in 89 (?)for the us models.
  15. The Bosch remans or replacements are quite poopie so don't go there. They seem to last two years less than the craptachi boat anchors. The last one I had failed and almost destroyed my battery, it was smoking and looked like a balloon:eek:! Battery still works though but I don't trust it.
  16. Listen to edrach. He is right. The insurance has to settle in three years and if you hold out that long they will "pay you off" completely. The frame can be pulled and the bed straightened on a frame rack, if its that bad, the tail gate is much better than mine I'm gonna fix and the bumper is your footwork. If you search 'insurance' you will find edrachs footnotes on his claim and all the sources to get yours adjusted. Never cash the insurance check if its not satisfactory. That is the end of the settlement case. My lifted wagon was totaled day after christmas last year and insurance offered me $119....you can guess where I told them to put it.
  17. Nice ea81 touring wagons! I have never seen those here, I've just heard they exist. I've seen the ea82 touring wagon, of course. Thanks for the pics, they are great! I'd so love to go there! I love the fact I can haul tonnes o crap 'on' my wagon (my roof is a little dented now), so how are the touring wagons? I've never seen them with rails or anything, did they have an optional rack? Maybe a better design, worse?
  18. Someone needs to mount a dl front grill on one and mount a 4 set of hid hellas behind them:rolleyes:! "Umm, I'm passing..."
  19. Axles. Custom axles.
  20. Aren't some vrs internal to the coil and some external? I dont remember how to test that.
  21. Has anyone cut the center cover in half so it can be removed without doing a front end teardown and used zip ties. I know if its got the silly clutch fan its still a pain but I was looking at my ej22 thinking why not on a ea82? I'll bet it wouldnt be so hard to get a fine cut with a japanese hand saw and use aluminum ducting tape to seal it up (not the regular duct tape). Just a question, I havent had an ea82 for 4yrs now.
  22. Doin it to a brat right now. Well, when I get off my lazy butt. Its raining.
  23. I'm in seattle and I'll give you one free that isn't so good but it will drop in and give you time to do the 5spd conversion and get parts. 140k miles and ready to die but it'll work for a while. It makes a noise when downshifting in second. Might have just been my throw out bearing, dunno, just needs a cleaning otherwise. Its going to the scrapper otherwise.
