this is for a toyota corolla but the knowledge should be the same... there is a shudder when braking.. im thinking warped rotors.. but it is also there when im not braking... if the shudder is there when not on the brakes, i would expect it to be really REALLY bad when i am on the brakes... are there any other possible things that you all can think of... its only when about 60+ mph... thanks!

thanks for all the great info. just for reference the car has 160k miles, automatic ive been looking at an ebay kit. and it said somethign about up till 2/97 and anything from 3/97 and later will not fit. ebay kit link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/90-2-97-SUBARU-LEGACY-IMPREZA-TIMING-BELT-KIT-SET-EJ22E_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ65Q3a12Q7c66Q3a2Q7c39Q3a1Q7c72Q3a1205Q7c240Q3a1318Q7c301Q3a1Q7c293Q3a1Q7c294Q3a50QQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem5d254147afQQitemZ400056993711QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories what is that referring to? the tensioner style? this is what it all looks like Pic: http://img512.imageshack.us/img512/6058/img1197t.jpg also, can someone confirm this: along with the ebay kit, i should also be getting the oil pump o ring, crank seal, waterpump, w/p gasket, and thermostat. what about a new tensioner, crank sprocket? the cam seals were just done 12k miles ago.. as was the belt.... but does anyone think it should be done again just because its all so accessible. Also, does anyone think that crankshaft is ruined because of badly the key is shifted? thats my biggest concern at the moment... thank you!

159k miles on automatic 97 legacy L (2.2) so i pulled the pulley. i have a new one now.. just for references, this is what everything looks like... does the cam gear need to get replaced as well? does anyone think that key can just be straightened out or something... some trick.. ive never changed a timing belt, would need help or a walk through... plus get someone to help the crank seal is leaking too i believe, so if the timing belt came off, i would probably make it a day project with a friend to change everything. any experience tips or advice is appreciated. http://img190.imageshack.us/img190/526/img1192g.jpg http://img13.imageshack.us/img13/4053/img1191b.jpg

the keyway on the pulley is ruined. im looking for a new pulley. (anyone?) the key looks a little messed up too... is that just a pop off force on new one? crank sprocket doesnt look bad... from what i can see.. ive been using two craftsman torque wrenches. one was a basic one adn the second time it was the digital one. supposedly theyre accurate to 2% or osmething.. im holding the crank by throwing in a tire iron into the drive plate by taking off the intake and dropping a bar into the slot under the throttle body.

jeebus. The bolt came loose AGAIN! what is the deal here?! i was driving to work and i heard the belt squeeling and i popped the hood at a red light and sure enough it was loose again. i parked it and hopped in my friends car who was behind me. the CEL just came on like two days ago. and yesterday was the first time i really drove it. since it came on. i was going to get the code read last night but the code reader i used didnt work so really ill get it this afternoon. the idle was strange yesterday and ive gotten throttle pos. sensor before. but the last CEL was a misfire in 1 and 3 about a week or so ago. could any damage from the wobbling crank pulley cause misfiring? my plan of action is: buy a new bolt, take the pulley off and inspect the key and if good, crank it back on with some loctite. then monitor.

have the person that owned it take you for a ride. assuming its one owner, you can see how they drive. if thats not possible, just take it for a drive.. if the catch point feels weird you know its been worn. my roomate who ruined his clutch - i can be driving in 3rd gear at 2000 rpm and put the pedal down, the rpms will shoot up but the car doesnt accelerate at all... i doubt cars get that bad... my roomate is kinda of the biggest idiot ive ever met it makes me uncomfortable there are people like him...

yeah i know what you mean. i saw the ebay seller with the kyb gr-2s for a 97 legacy sedan too so is it possible they messed up the order? hopefully its a better reason than that.... oh wow. i just mis read everything i feel... if you wanted to raise your IMPREZA. you shoulda gotten sedan struts. *according to what i read* the wagons sag more.. thats why wherever i read this from, the poster said to make sure to use sedan for sedan and wagon for wagon otherwise it would sag in the back. if you were looking to raise the impreza. it could just be that the Forrester was designed to sit with a higher front because the body makes up for it...

hmm wow. ive had this problem too. and i think people just came to the conclusion it was cold out. i get strange idle rpms too even when the car is warm. i coudl be driving for a while put he car in neutral and the RPM will be at like 2000.. I had suspected somethign like a coolant temp sensor. .but never actaully thought of doing anything.

hmm. i was reading that the struts on the wagons give a saggier butt... since this is a wagon, maybe the struts were meant for a sedan? and not the wagon like you thought? i think i read most of this stuff on nasioc. it was about swapping struts onto a 98 Legacy. ill take a look and see if i could find those and post the links.. they might be on here too... i dont remember.

i do believe the 2005 2006 legacys dont have that sharp lip on each of the spokes. they are the same style though so i may be mistaken. in fact my initial guess was legacy but now i think i would go with imprezas because of how the edges curve up away from the center of the car. opposed to a rounded edge on the legacy rims..
