  1. I personally enjoy driving my brat as a dd, but it does get tiresome after a while. And she is ALWAYS overpriced. Especially on Subaru's of any year. I say keep the loyale and the EA82 and wait to find a piecer like I did. Oh, and a 4 speed is a nightmare on the freeway. Especially with only 73 hp. I have scared every person that has ever ridden with me on the freeway. :-p (or maybe that was on dirt roads... ) Twitch
  2. This is fuel injected? Wow. That sounds just like flooding the cylinders and them catching up. Typical carb problem (for those of us with a lead foot ) Maybe your TPS is acting up. It sounds like it is sticking... Hope it helps. Twitch
  3. I know how you feel! But fortunately I have a fellow sube nut at our local napa He's knows what's what. And I have a guy at shucks. I bet most of you are jealous Twitch
  4. Check your vacuum lines. Also make sure your air cleaner bolts have an O-ring under them, it is vital that you have the airbox sealed, other than the intake, of course. The bolts on the side of the air cleaner also must be in so as not to allow any extra air in as well. Twitch
  5. I would make sure that you're getting good contact between the wire and the sending unit. And I would check the wire for any breaks in the insulation. It could be shorting before it gets to the guage. Twitch
  6. It might be that your ductwork is loose and allowing air to escape. Check under the passenger side dashboard. If its the same as my brat, there will be a black tube that air blows through. It should run from the outer panel to the center of the dash. If that's not the problem then, as everyone else said, try cleaning your heater core and your radiator. Twitch
  7. HOLY CRAP!!! This is an old thread! And an extremely useful one at that! I'll be doing this swap asap, as I believe my alt is on the downhill :-\ All I run is headlights, fan, multimedia gps, and 200w stereo. And my voltage slowly sinks down, till I kill the fan and gps. Then it takes about 10-15 minutes to get back up to 12-13 volts. :-\ So, maybe I'll be able to run my fogs, and my overheads, without killing my battery. Twitch
  8. Crap, well now I feel like a moron I guess I misread. Well, my bad, feel free to delete mods and admins! Unless, of course this helps, someone to find rims for something like The subaru mini truck! Mwahahahaha!!! Its still a subaru! Sorry, slightly maniacal today... Twitch(ing)
  9. I thought that the old gen lug pattern was 4x100, at least that's what I have read... If they aren't, I apologize for taking up unneccesary space. Twitch
  10. I just found this searching around for atv lug patterns that would fit to my brat and, well TAH DAH!!!! I founds sumthin'! Here's the link! They're supposed to adapt 4x100 to 4x110 or 4x115. I don't know how well they'll work for wheeling, but they're cool none-the-less! Twitch
  11. Hey! Sweet jig! Did you learn that in an Irish pub? Sorry, lame joke. So you can take just about any 6 lug to that thing? Cool. I might request your services for some wheels in the future... Twitch(ing with joy!)
  12. Good lord, an XT6GL10LiftedSedan? You're askin' for trouble boy. Nice grab, and can't beat the price. Oh, and may I say I like that pickup Early 80's I wanna say standard cab fleetside GMC? Sorry, I like old chevy pickups. :-p And I would like that spoiler, if its up for grabs that is. It would look mighty spiffy on one of my brats Twitch
  13. It looks like that was the stock position, considering the bracket sitting there. I think that under the hood would be easier for wiring if the wiring is present in that location. If its not, then I would just stick with the current location. And if you want the pump I got, O'reily's might have it (They bought CSK automotive.) It was like 50 or so dollars, I might have posted the price in my original post. Best of luck to ya! Twitch
  14. Nice brat man! (sorry, pun not intended) Why in the world would you want to drive it to death? Or in your words, "drive the dickens out of it"? If it looked like my brat, then yeah, drive it till it drops, but yours is so nice! I just wish I had the time and skill to do what you have done to mine. :-\ But hey thanks for showing us your beautiful 87' Brat! Twitch (de la Brat!)
  15. Sorry, I had to move it, the owners of the house were going to have it towed. Twitch PS: Just kidding! :-p Don't kill me! I surrender! Eeek! It was... It was... It w... *gasp* :-p:grin:
  16. Sorry, nip. Didn't mean to sound like a jerk. Twitch
  17. Monthly? I only need to change mine every 2-3 months. Plus I run high grade oil, and almost always keep my brat at 2k or higher. Sure it may be a bit brutish, but considering the number of times people have tried to run me over this winter I like to have a little power to get the hell outta their way when their not paying any attention. I've had too many close calls and few too many accidents. And the majority of them weren't my fault. Sorry rant over. Twitch
  18. Aww, c'mon nipper! Don't you have any sense of fun? First time somebody drives your car and you hear "WTH?!?" when they hit the street. Oh god that was funny seeing that, whoo boy, sorry. But yeah, nipper's right, you probably need a new speedo cable.
  19. Learn what speed your going at what rpm in which gear. Like 45 is 2000 rpm in 4th. That's what I do in my '85 brat. My speedo rarely works. Hasn't since I bought the car. That's my fix. Just learn your approximate gear ratio's. Twitch PS: I have a 4sp d/r
  20. Yeah, details would help. If its idling that high cold, it poses a hazard to the engine. If your Subaru is cxarbureted these might be a solution: Try shooting some carb cleaner into and round the carb. Once you've cleaned up the carb a bit and it still idles that high, try tapping the throttle a few times. The throttle or the choke may just be a bit sticky. If this doesn't work, check your idler screw, it may be set too high. If your rig is efi, I have no clue. Hope it helps, Twitch
  21. I bought some silicone wiper blades. I forget the brand name (tossed the package ) but they were in a yellow and black package at wally world. They work fairly well when I get washer fluid on the windows. (washer pump doesn't work anymore :-\) But they have never froze down on me. I had them coated in ice and snow and they still worked. I'ved use them as ice scrapers when there was frost on the windshield. They have a lifetime warrantee on them so if they ever die I get new ones for free! The only thing I've noticed is that they don't work well on a dirty windshield. I highly reccomend cleaning your windshield with some sort of wash, ex. rain-x, turtle wax, etc, before you use them. Twitch.
  22. Well Mr. Monstaru, it could have been a lot worse. It could have flipped the van into oncoming traffic, killed a few people and exploded in a fireball. And the moose hit the van, not visa versa Greenley. The moose was probably doing 35-40 when it hit the van and pushed it into the oncoming lane of traffic. Thankfully there were no cars in the way when she got pushed over there. Just a little splainnin. Twitch :-\
  23. It seems like we all have had our encounters with meese. My mom was hit by one in our 79' GMC Passenger van, Ya know, the old beasts that could hold like 15 people. It caved in the sliding door and dented the passenger window frame. Thankfully she had the window down at the time so it didn't shatter. It knocked the 4000lb van into the next lane. The skid marks were probably 10 feet long in total. And the cool thing is the only thing that was hurt was the moose. Oh and the door still works. Twitch
  24. Is your engine running hot? My brat with a stock, I believe, single barrel hitachi, and it fluctuates when it's running hot. So you may be being afflicted by the same thing, which I have no idea what is causing it. I believe it may be the excessive heating of the air going into the engine and the expansion of the air hitting the hot water crossover causes a fluctuation in the amount of air entering the engine. If that's what's happening. If not, I have no clue. It may be a faulty or dirty jet not pushing enough fuel into the carb, causing a surge in power when it does push enough fuel but a drop when it doesn't. At such a demanding speed, but low rpm's it may not operate with enough vacuum to get the fuel through the faulty or dirty jet. Just my two bucks from my limited piggybank of knowledge. Torquemaster Twitch
  25. I'd like the chain drive if I was offroading, but I want to rallycross, not really rock crawling stuff. I am, however, greatly tempted by the cutting out of the wheel well and custom building my own. Mine are basically shot, so I might do that, once I get a rig to drive other than my brat. Have the whole bottom resheeted in 1/8th in steel, ok maybe 1/16 to save money. Grind the rust out of my fenders and open them up big enough to fit some 17" wheels with low pro rally tires, yeah. Sorry, drifted off. (pun not intended) Twitch
