Suburu Impreza EJ16 Turbo Conversion?
bratman18 replied to Jamesc182's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXyeah I know all about expensive insurance! I had a 97 Impreza when I was 19 and it cost $225 a month to insure!!! Ummm, whats the turbo that comes on a stock WRX? I can't remember. Or you could try to make a turbo from an older GL turbo fit. That would probably be small enough so that it wouldn't put too much boost into the motor. Or maybe one form an early Legacy turbo?

Suburu Impreza EJ16 Turbo Conversion?
bratman18 replied to Jamesc182's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXJust out of curiosity, why does a different motor effect insurance? I take it you have to notify them of the swap? In the states you don't have to do that. We don't 1.6's in the us either. So I dunno, a complete swap would definitely be the easiest. If you want to bolt a turbo to the stock motor it probably would reduce the longevity of the motor. But if that's the route you wanted to go, you could probably pick up the parts from a parts car that is already turboed and swap the necessary parts into yours. Nice looking car though!

Knock Knock!
Yeah if you get the setup with the dual range tranny attached, it will already have the starter off to the lefty a little bit. And yes it will all bolt right into place

Knock Knock!
These combos came in all the generation 2 cars as well. Most any Brat or wagon or hatch will have the EA81 and 4 spd dual range tranny as well.

Knock Knock!
Ok EJ is a motor out of a Legacy/Impreza and will require quite a bit of mod to fit. As far as I know yes an EA81 and 4 spd Dual range will bolt right in. Some of the '81's came with that setup so it should be a direct bolt in!

Knock Knock!
That would be sweet too! But it would also be a bit more of a challenge because it doesn't fit too well!

Thick gray-white smoke from exhaust of '05 Baja
bratman18 replied to Brooklyn Baja's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYeah that's a lot! I bet you could have found a good used one of a wrecked car, or that someone upgraded from for a lot cheaper! But I understand the need for you car as well! At least it's good to go! Good luck with it!!

Single Point Fuel Injection on a ea81
Do a search. There are write ups on this. Basically it's easy to bolt on the intake etc. but then of course it gets a little more complicated with the wiring. You have to wire in the computer for the SPFI, which means you have to basically build a harness that combines the EA81 and EA82! Search for it and you should find plenty of info! I love mine!!

What color is my 86 GL?
Try automotivetouchup.com I have dealt with them a few times and they have a lot of factory paint colors

Knock Knock!
My opinion is to find a good EA81 with a 4spd dual range hooked to it from a 2nd generation car and swap it all in! That would solve the problem of turning bigger tires!!

pug alloys
they all fit on the hub but there is a certain style that needs special tires. Instead of a 15" it is a weird measurement(I can't remember exactly) Just make sure you look at the wheels and if they have a mm measurement than they are the ones that aren't worth having.

Front & rear differential lube check
bratman18 replied to Rooster2's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXhonestly the rear diff is usually forgotten and I've seen many that have close to 300,000 on them and never been checked. I have only seen one ever go bad, and that was one that was rebuilt by someone that shouldn't have been touching a car! The front diffs probably should get checked. There's a dipstick to check the level, so its easy. And There would be a lot more wear on the front IMO. But if you don't see any leakage, they are probably just fine!

2000 Outback for my dad HELP plz
bratman18 replied to Caramanos2000's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXStill shouldn't be all that hard. If you can manage to get those parts than the work putting them on is easy! And it sounds like a cheap runner to me!

Gas Fill Issue 2000 OBS
bratman18 replied to Huck369's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXHave you tried different angles etc. with the nozzle? I know sometimes with certain pumps on mine I have to actually hold the nozzle out a little bit and then it flows fine. Or either that your breather hose is plugged?

Some wheel switching on the '82 wagons

2000 Outback for my dad HELP plz
bratman18 replied to Caramanos2000's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIf you can find the parts, It wouldn't be very expensive at all! Are they parts that you could find near you? It's all pretty easy stuff to fix, and 1300 sounds like a decent price especially with all the recent work!

Looking at a used 5spd D/R, what to check?
That's pretty much it......there shouldn't be any input shaft play, or very little! Make sure all the plugs and sensors etc are there. unless it's a lot of oil leakage, don't be afraid. I have never seen one that isn't leaking a little. I just brought my spare home today and it's a low mileage one and it's leaking some. Make sure you get the shift linkage etc, as well! And interior trim!
