Buying an 83-84 GL wagon
Yeah usually anything like that would be "rusted to the door handles" And I still wouldn't be able to buy it for anything less than a couple hundred!

Is gapping spark plugs important?
bratman18 replied to sub_dont_touch's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXyeah I'm with you, I've never seen NGK's cost that much! Good luck with the champions! They might have been alright years ago, but I have heard nothing but bad stuff about them in a long time! Unless like I said they are used in a lawn mower!

a rather noobish question
Yup! I know what you mean. Check any junk yard that are near you.

a rather noobish question
Yeah well really the only option then is to have another motor from the same kind of motor put into it. But of course a shop is gonna charge a lot more to put another motor in. You could really do it yourself in a few hours, if you had all the parts and tools. Yeah I bet I can beat you on cold temp. It's currently 5* out right now! brrrrrrrr

a rather noobish question
Well you could put a legacy motor in it with some work. search for EJ swap in the search area. But that's about it. That would give you a lot more power! But it takes a fair amount of work to do. By far the easiest would be to replace it with another motor out of the same style car. Are you doing the work yourself?

Is gapping spark plugs important?
bratman18 replied to sub_dont_touch's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXMy opinion is you should really return those lawn mower plugs and go get some NGK's! Champions are junk and I've never heard of a Subaru owners manual saying to use them. There is a reason you don't hear of them being used in Subarus! But you can disregard this as well, but I have a feeling you'll have issues later on with them! Good luck

No you should be able to find a motor for less than 200, or not much more. Any 1.8 liter Loyale or EA82 motor will fit. But 87 and older was carburated, so look for one in an 88 or newer. There are a couple for sale on here. Look in the for sale section.

Want opinions, what did I mess up this time
Yeah the old 80's ones are getting harder and harder to find, and then when you find one in good shape(not rusted out) they are asking a lot for them! But it was sweet! He had the solid front axle in it too.

timing belt components - cheap kit or OEM?
bratman18 replied to cjd160's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI think a lot of people on here will say to go with OEM or maybe find an ebay kit.

To comment on the comment on the hijack, toyota diesels were available in the 2WD Toyota pick ups. A friend of mine built a 4WD. He took the diesel out of the 2WD and put it in a 4WD and then had to do something with the oil pan to make it fit right. It had a hand throttle so you could literally get out and walk beside it up hill. And the low end torque was insane! He had a plow on it and in 4HI it would sit against a snow bank and very slowly...at idle....spin all the tires! It was awesome!
