1. I don't doubt your experience. I think we're talking about two slightly different things. Anyways, you're right that the amount you add to the the shaft is slightly less than 3 inches. I was saying that the total length (your original statement) is longer that 3". Just a simple miscommunication. None the less, the numbers and equation still hold true. I'm just about ready to do mine... just waiting for the mail
2. also, I got annoyed at all the educated guessing going on and posted this on another thread: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showpost.php?p=959786&postcount=18
3. haha. Sorry to correct you, Scott, but you mean it's longer than the lift (3") at that point, right? (a^2)+(b^2)=(c^2) where c is the linkage length, a is the horizontal measurement and b is the vertical rise. so with the 3 inch lift at the engine crossmember the equasion for the length would be: c = [(a^2)+(b^2)+6b+9]^(1/2) anybody have a graphing calculator and tape measure? Make sure a and b are in inches. Or you could just measure, cut and weld... but I like to calculate... (nerd)
4. Gotchya. Sorry, I didn't notice that in the text, at first. Does anyone know what steering linkage/extension Allied Armament shipped with their lift kits? Was it something they modified or was it pulled from a yard?
5. If the legacy outback barely works, I wonder if a forester shaft will work better. I think it was Cmiller who told me he got his form a forester for his 4" ea82 lift. Does anyone know what year might work?
6. Here is the status of the group buy, for those concerned. SJR says that 4 have paid and 1 should have payment on the way. The 4 that are confirmed paid will ship out today.
7. EA engines run pretty low oil pressure at low rpm. It is sufficient to lube the engine while running the correct viscosity oil at these lower rpms. On a hydraulic lifter engine with sticky/clogged lifters, a lighter oil is going to flow into the lifter passages easier, but it doesn't perform it's other duties as well. Stick with what Subaru specked the engine with.
8. Agreed. Though, I suppose it depends on how long and far you run your vehicle. I have a huge hill to go up on my commute, so I drive instead of ride my bike to that destination. My car is fully warm about the time I reach the end of my journey. This is coupled with nights around -10 to +10 F in the winter, so synthetic's ability to work well in extremes is beneficial to me. If I had a long commute, I might not reap the benefits of synth, as much. Also, I try to only buy synthetic on sale. Otherwise it's not worth it. But back to weights , I also agree that healthy EA82's like 10w-30 to 15w-40 generally speaking.
9. I run 10w-30 in my freshly rebuilt ea82. It's creamy smooth and oil pressure is very predictable. New lifters don't mind the thicker stuff. I'll probably switch to 5w-30 or 10w-30 synthetic when the mornings are consistently below freezing on the next oil change. I'm curious, though I know there has been a ton of discussion on this point, what brand of oil we're talking about here? I like Valvoline for my vehicles because it's cheap(er) and still pretty good stuff. Ams in the ghetto cruiser would be overkill.
10. you saw my shinny bearing. I cleaned up the inner and outer bearing sleaves and kept them for who knows what. Anyways, I have about 45 miles on the rebuilt engine and it seems real happy. I have a little coolant leak at the base of the carb (grrrrr) so I guess I'll attack that guy and it should be all buttoned up. Thanks again for everyone's help. I'll post more when it's lift time.
11. Not sure. We cut it off last Tuesday, but pm Scott in Bellingham to see if he'll make an exception for you.
12. I sent payment on Wednesday. Scott, can you give a list of people still needing to pay? If that's not appropriate, perhaps you could harass them a little
13. I sent you email. edit: looks like your email doesn't work. Go to sjrlift.com and order your kit. Put "GROUP BUY" in the comments section. Do this by tonight.
14. I purchased my 4" lift from SJR. Waiting... Waiting...... Waiting........ In the mean time, the starter switch is now a pushbutton type. I'll post pictures to follow. It's neatly recessed to the left of the steering column. The way it sits it is very difficult to accidentally touch. Now we're flying "Millennium Falcon" style.
15. I've used many varieties of grease. I started using this synthetic stuff (0-500 f) in Oregon for wheel bearings since it was always so wet. It seems to hold up the best. When you open it up, again, the grease is usually still in good shape, where as a lot of molly grease degrades a bit more quickly.
16. These are for a different year, but it gets the point across: Subaru on the left, Stant on the right. The weight of each is very different, as well.
17. Thanks Scott. I can't wait. Also, let us know what the payment options are in the emails.
18. Thanks for letting us know, good luck on the transmission... If you can get anyone else to jump in by tomorrow, it would be appreciated. It seems we need all the help we can get. The thread I was okay-ed to post in the off road section was removed for unknown reasons and they moved this one way out of the way of any traffic, so if you can help us out, we'd all appreciate it. This was meant to bring business to SJR and give everyone a fair discount. It seems there are other forces at work which are not so interested in supporting the wonderful old school scoob lifestyle we advocate on this forum. One more buyer and we all get %20 off! Scott, please let us know where we stand after Tuesday evening. Maybe give us an update on Wednesday. Thanks...
19. Mine worked fine. I ordered a 4" ea82 and it came up with ea82
20. I plugged the ASV ports at the heads. Just got some sheet metal and used the flange of the tubes as a template. Much more clean than any other method. check out my build thread for some pics (they're in there some where): http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=114817 Oh yeah, I used copper RTV (really high temp) to help the seal. I'd grab a beer but Durango is a little further than worth plugging ASV's, as fun as it sounds.
21. Now it's rear wheel bearing time: Packed with marine bearing grease (for those water crossings, and fertilizer resistant!).
22. Done with the engine. Now all I have to do is change the oil. It sits right at 200 degrees F and oil pressure is good. I know you guys hate pictures:
23. Now I'm not sure since some folks want to buy but appear to have trouble with the sjrlift site. That's why I asked Scott again. If there are 5 of us, I think the discount will be %20. 7 buyers is -%25...
24. Scott, any help on this?
25. make a new login? I never saw pay options, either, but I did get email confirmation with SJR's order form and all.
