  1. I, for one, love the STi wing. I'd do the swap with ya, but you're a bit too far away.
  2. I wonder if it would be easier to mate the tranny and install the motor into the car if you unbolted and dropped both crossmembers free of the car. Just a thought. Nice work though, gives me all sort of ideas for my own hatch.
  3. When I was checking on prices today it would appear that Rancho no longer sells the shock that McBrat used on his lift.
  4. Maybe he was in a hurry to get his Dad's car back to him before he noticed it missing?
  5. I guess I did this a little backwards. My first Subie was a '02 WRX, followed by an '04 WRX. And then I started collecting ea81s.
  6. Ok this weekend I was supposed to go pick up the Hatch mentioned in this thread: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=22283 It has no sub frames so we were going to head down with the trailer and haul it back. Unfortuntely, we had a false alarm with my pregnant wife.(The baby is playing tricks on us. ) And we never made it down to pick up the car. The baby could decide to come any day now and I don't want to be 2-3 hours from home if she decides to. Is there anyone I can pay/horsetrade with to go get the car for me? It is in Tigard, OR and I am just a little southeast of Chehalis, WA.
  7. Excellent info all, thank you. I'll be giving it a try tomorrow.
  8. http://www.cbsnews.com/htdocs/videoplayer/newVid/small_player/cbsnews_videoplayer.shtml?clip=LiveWebCast&BaseName=livenews&title=Live$@$Coverage&castNum=1&mediaType=wmv Live video for anyone who wants to see it.
  9. Pfft, just a little bit of steam. I'm sure she was due, holding it all in for 24 years must be tough.
  10. That doesn't sound too bad, does it have any effect on it if the motor is still in the car? Ok well that answers that then.
  11. How hard is it to remove the front suspension assembly from an ea81 as a whole unit? I'm looking to unbolt mine from the wagon to slide it under a hatch I'm picking up. I know the rear assembly is a piece of cake, I've done it before. I'm just hoping the front end isn't much more complicated. :-\
  12. The WRX has a 2.0 liter turbo. And performance numbers show it's *slightly* faster than the Legacy GT. The Legacy has the 2.5 liter turbo motor. (Also found in the STi, Forester XT and the Baja Turbo) The power potential of the turbo 2.5 is very appealing. Not to mention the additional room due to the Legacy's size. The new Legacy is a sharp looking car, in sedan or wagon form. As is the Impreza, you can't go wrong with either car. Good Luck
  13. Clutch? What clutch? Launching mine is as simple as powerbraking until I get the rpms where I want it. My wifes is a 5spd and has never had an issue with a "weak tranny" and I know she doesn't exactly baby it. From my experiences the weak tranny myth started with a few bad apples from the initial release of the 2002 cars. I would still recommend against pavement drag racing. Not at all what they were meant for.
  14. I'm up in Lewis County, haven't run into anyone else from here, but I'm down with having to travel a little to meet up with some other Subie nuts.
  15. Nice work, I really dig the way that looks. If my wagon didn't have rust in the wheel wells too, this would have been a great project to cut the bad spot out of it's roof. My dogs would love it too.
  16. Did you guys see any significant gains after swapping the manifolds? I'm willing to try anything if I can get a little extra power out of my ea81.
  17. Cool another genmayer, just saw your identical post over there.
  18. Looks good, nice work. One of these days I've got to get around to learning how to weld.
  19. I would start here: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/search.php? It did wonders for me when I first found this board.
  20. I'm getting that problem right now with my '04 at 24k miles, but I know for certain it's tires. The Potenzas they use on the Imprezas are horrid tires. I'm waiting for winter to arrive and I'm getting some aggressive snow tires mounted. The wife's '02 went through a set of tires in about 25k miles. Your mileage is too low for tire wear to be an issue. But you could still be dealing with crap tires as part of your problem.
  21. Tyler, that sucks man. I actually broke the bolt that holds the alternator to the bracket when I was putting mine on the Hatch. Luckily I had a spare and I could grab the end of the broken one with some vice grips. :| Someone on here has to have an extra they'd be willing to send you. I know if I had one I'd drop it in the mail today. If you do sell the wagon, I don't think I could convince the wife to drive out to buy it too.
  22. Sweet, welcome aboard. I picked up a couple sets of 185/80R13 Douglas Xtrac M+S tires from Walmart for about 27each. They're pretty good, especially for the price.
