Sounds about right, the td04 are meant for more exhaust flow/pressure, with the larger dia. header lag will increase about 300-500rpm, and almost that again with a td04. What boost press. are you running? I have a tdo4 but I don't think I will run it on either of my TWE piped cars I'm trying to make a franken turbo instead [td04 intake turbine into a moddified rhb5 intake snailshell. Stockers are not bad exhaust wise especially if you port the inside of the snailshell so exhaust has a smooth path to the wastegate valve to prevent boost creep, the main drawback is the rhb5's 5 intake vanes instead of a td04's 6, the tdo4's vanes are steeper and the secondarys have a better profile. The rhb5's vanes are so slack in angle that when you start running high flow/pressure you get large heating losses and inefficiencies from the restrictions caused by so much vane face being in the way.

Upsizing the oil filter possible?
Vanislru replied to freedster's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
On the wagon in my sig I run an oil filter adapter w/lines up to a front mount oil cooler and then a line from that to my remote filter assembly on the fender wall where I run an oversize filter. Anyone who's modded aircooled VW's is used to seing added oil capacity usually in the form of larger sump pans. My wagon puts down a lot of power for a 1.8l, I want the coolest oil possible, I also want to maintain good pressure, to offset any flow losses from the lines for the remote filter and oil cooler I've gone oversize on the filter to lower the overall resistance to flow through the filter. The reason for the remote filter mount is cause of the crossover pipe for the turbo which radiates alot of heat by the pan and the oil filter in the stock pos., if I'm running hard on the trails there's not much air flow around that area. Yeah so my vote oversize filters are good if you need them, better on turbo's especially remote mounted. WJM posted about the availability of remote adapters a while ago I don't think many went for it tho. -
Gettin' a little tired of my wagon!
Vanislru replied to 4WDFrenzy's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I think you're right, I forced a piston back in on a rear caliper instead of twisting and it was screwed. The brake stayed fully locked as soon as I depressed the pedal after I re-installed it. I should have read a bit more about the brakes first:drunk:. -
Sweet I'm stoked to see what a BB performs like on our motors, finally we have some real numbers to compare with and there's some serious mod work going on these days. Exciting times. Bushbasher I'm coming down to Vic to drop stuff off for Phishy on Sat. I'll PM you before then when I work out the details.

Adjustable Timing Pulleys… who might want some?
Vanislru replied to All_talk's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Those look great, the ability to precisely set the cams is just what these motors need. Nice work. If I can move my power band lower then I'd be in, possibly for 2 sets. I can send pulley's down in advance if need be when the time comes. Price sounds reasonable. -

I think you should keep it, maybe get a dd for cheap so your wagon can afford to be down for a while so there's not so much hassle when things go bad. It sounds like you have a lot of time into it. -
I don't think they've settled on a location yet, I've sort of followed the thread cause I'm hopin' to bring the turbo beast down. I can't go anywhere round here without being hounded with wuestions, where'd ya get those tires?, that's a subaru?, why?, and so on.

Wicked, I'm interested I could cruise down on the ferrry from Victoria, if you can get a rough idea of what's there turbo's, gl-10's, and rx's or anything else of interest. Last time I went to Annacortes the custom's girls wouldn't me let on the boat till I ditched the rolling paper's that were in the car apparently they could have been used for drugs? That they could not find on me or the car. Bizzare. Maybe it was my toque eh?

And Subie wagon's! they're everywhere! Singletrack if you do come up in my town the bike shop and hostel are both run by friends, wicked trails and no North Shore attitude.
-
Well said. Good point on the breaking more stuff cause you're using speed as a crutch. I'll stay with the LSD for now but my mind was made up after watching the subie vids over and over, if you want to have the traction at slow speed for precision wheel placement then welded's best.

Hubs or freewheel? No offense but maybe you should dump the highend hubs and run bombproof XT's. I used to race XC and DH at the pro level here in BC and I always chose reliability over wieght savings and "performance".

Garner has that sort of set up doesn't he? ea82t in a brat? ea82t's are so easy to mod and it sounds like you are familiar with what's involved with the swap so what the heck sounds good.

Some guys have there NOS jet ahead of the intercooler, most put it after the intercooler. Pretty sure the guy writing the article was playin it up but didn't understand what was being said. NOS does cool the the charge [that's why it so good with turbo's, detonation wise] just like an intercooler does plus it adds a bit more oxygen for combustion too. NOS and turbos are very common, so are NOS equipped intercooled turbo's, this guy just didn't reread his article enough and wrote things out wrong. Bet a flat on this one I would.

twe techworks header wrap

That "dent's" supposed to be there don't remember why but I asked about it cause both pair of my header's had it. -
Strut Tower Brace....Q....
Vanislru replied to moshem74's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
You can easily DIY and it will improve your cars driving characteristics, you can do it on the cheap or get really into and drop some big bills. Some 4x4'ers remove their bar so as to allow the car to flex even more. -
The trannie blocks are that size cause otherwise you'd have to extend the shift linkage, on my lift the majority of blocks are 3" but the trannie's are 2" and the struts and shock mounts are 4". What you are proposing will help your camber, but so will shimming your struts I think. Have you heard from PK yet? PS Your car looks really straight, very cool considering the damage and the fact you might have sold it after all that work!

ea81t surging - throttle stop adjustment?

IMHO forget pug rims and drill your hubs for six bolt rims it's easy to do, read the tire write up at the top of the Offroad page there's a link on how to do it. 15"x7" rims open up a whole world of tire choices.
-
It's there look at the drivers side head, very back goes from the head just above the exhaust flange into the intake directly above.
-
I will send down the pipes on the bus Mon. Where I cut looks like a connector and 2 clamps from crappy tire will do. When I welded the flange for the DP connection I messed up on the angle a bit by a degree or 2, so it puts a bit of tension on the UP, not much tho. After a year of nasty abuse I did break an UP just below the turbo where they usually break so.... if you plan on 4x4 the piss out of it then might want to fix that but if you are not hammering it everyday all winter then no need to worry [i do really mean hammering the snot out of it]. So yeah two clamps and a connector and your good to go, fits right in there and sounds burly performs way better than stock too. If you can send me all of your mounts cut as close to the pipe as possible including the one for the end of the trannie ASAP then it's yours + the flat rate too:drunk:. Any luck with the heads?

Hey Phishy hows the head?
